Getting Started
Connecting Power
Connect the AC adapter to the power input (1) on the rear of the radio. Plug the AC adapter into a properly installed and easily accessible power outlet. The AC adapter is suitable for mains voltages of 100-240 V and can therefore be used in almost all AC power networks. Note that an adapter may be required in some countries; Hama offers suitable accessories at www.hama.com.
ℹ️ Note:
- Connect the device only to a suitable power outlet.
- With multiple outlets, ensure that connected devices do not exceed the total permissible power consumption.
- The power outlet must be easily accessible at all times.
- Unplug the device if it is not used for an extended period.
Once the device is plugged in, initialization occurs, and the radio starts.
Controls and Display
ℹ️ Note: When multiple buttons (YES or NO, etc.) are present, the selected button is highlighted.
In menus with different options (language, update, etc.), the currently selected option is marked with an asterisk (*).
Front Panel Controls (A)
- 1-4 (Presets 1-4): Quick access to saved favorite stations.
- 2 [POWER]: Turns the device on or puts it into standby mode.
- 3 [MEMORY]: Used for saving favorite stations.
- 4 [MENU/SETTINGS]: Accesses the main menu and settings.
- 5 [MUTE]: Toggles audio mute.
- 6 [INFO]: Displays additional information about the current station or program.
- 7 [BACK]: Returns to the previous menu or screen.
- 8 [MODE]: Switches between operating modes (DAB, FM, CD, USB, Bluetooth).
- 9 [NAVIGATE/ENTER/VOLUME]: Turn to navigate menu entries and adjust volume (right to increase, left to decrease). Press to confirm selections.
- 10 (CD Compartment): For inserting and ejecting CDs.
- 11 (Stop): Stops playback.
- 12 (Rewind/Previous): Skips to the previous track or rewinds.
- 13 (Display): Shows information like station name, time, and menu options.
- 14 (Play/Pause): Starts or pauses playback.
- 15 (Fast Forward/Next): Skips to the next track or fast forwards.
- 16 (Eject/Open): Opens/closes the CD compartment.
Rear Panel Controls (B)
- 17 (DC IN 12V-1.0A): Power adapter input.
- 18 (Headphone Jack): For connecting headphones.
- 19 (USB Interface): For connecting USB storage devices.
- 20 (Update Port): For software updates.
- 21 (Telescopic Antenna): For receiving radio signals.
Radio Operation
DAB/DAB+ Radio
The radio receives DAB/DAB+ broadcasts on frequencies 174 MHz to 240 MHz (Band III, Channels 5A to 13). Activate DAB mode via the main menu or by pressing the [MODE] button.
Station Search
An automatic search scans for available DAB stations. You can also perform a manual search via the menu by navigating to 'Full scan' or 'Scan setting'.
Station List
View and select stations from the list. Inactive stations can be removed by navigating to 'Prune' or 'Clean up station list'.
Favorites
Save up to 30 favorite stations for quick access. You can assign them to preset buttons (1-4) or memory slots (1-30).
DRC (Dynamic Range Control)
Adjusts volume dynamics for clearer audio, especially in noisy environments. Options: High (full adjustment), Low (subtle adjustment), Off (no adjustment).
Station Order
Stations can be sorted alphabetically, by provider, or by signal strength.
FM Radio
Activate FM mode via the main menu or [MODE] button. RDS (Radio Data System) information may be displayed for compatible stations.
Search Tuning
Set search sensitivity to prioritize strong signals or scan all available signals. Access this via 'Settings' > 'Scan setting'.
Automatic Search
Initiate a station search. The radio stops at the first station found or continues scanning based on the 'Scan setting'.
Favorites (FM)
Similar to DAB, up to 30 FM stations can be saved as favorites using preset buttons or memory slots.
Audio Settings
Option to enable 'mono' reception mode to improve reception quality for difficult signals. This setting is found within the menu.
Media Playback
CD Player
Plays standard audio CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3 CDs. Ensure discs are clean and free of scratches. Do not force insertion/ejection. Mini CDs (8mm) are not supported.
Playback Controls
Use the [Play/Pause] (14) button to start/pause playback, [Stop] (11) to stop, [Fast Forward/Next] (15) to skip tracks or fast forward, and [Rewind/Previous] (12) to skip to previous tracks or rewind.
Use [Eject/Open] (16) to open and close the CD compartment.
USB Playback
Connect a USB storage device (formatted to FAT16/FAT32) to the USB port (19). Activate USB mode via the main menu or [MODE] button. Files and folders will be displayed; navigate and select files using [NAVIGATE/ENTER/VOLUME] to start playback.
Bluetooth Connectivity
Connect Bluetooth-enabled devices (smartphones, tablets) for wireless audio streaming. Playback is controlled from the connected device, and volume can be adjusted on the radio.
Pairing
Ensure Bluetooth is active on your device. Activate Bluetooth mode on the radio by pressing [MODE] repeatedly. On your portable device, open Bluetooth settings and search for 'DR1550CBT'. Select it to pair. The connection range is up to 10 meters without obstacles.
ℹ️ Bluetooth Note:
- Some devices may require a password (e.g., '0000').
- Connection may be affected by other Bluetooth devices or environmental factors.
- The radio can only be paired with one device at a time.
- Compatibility depends on supported Bluetooth profiles and versions.
Automatic Connection
Previously paired devices will connect automatically when in range and Bluetooth is active.
Disconnecting
Navigate to the Bluetooth settings menu on the radio and select 'Disconnect'. Confirm with 'YES'.
System Settings
Sleep Timer
Set a timer to automatically put the radio into standby mode after a selected duration.
Alarm (Wake-up)
Configure up to two alarms (Alarm 1, Alarm 2) with selectable activation times, sources (Buzzer, DAB, FM), and volume levels. The radio can automatically synchronize time from DAB/FM broadcasts for accurate wake-up times.
Snooze Function
When the alarm sounds, press [POWER] (2) to stop it, or press [NAVIGATE/ENTER/VOLUME] to activate Snooze (5 or 10 minutes).
Date & Time Settings
Set date and time manually (JJ-MM-AAAA, HH:MM) or enable automatic updates from DAB/FM signals. Select 12/24 hour format.
Language
Change the menu language. Available languages include English, German, Dutch, French, and Italian.
Factory Reset
Restore the radio to its original factory settings. This will erase all presets, favorites, and custom settings. Confirm with 'YES' to proceed.
Software Update
Check for and install software updates via the 'Software Update' menu. Automatic updates are recommended. Ensure stable power during updates to prevent irreparable damage.
Information
View current software version, radio identification, and device name. This information may be required for customer support.
Display Brightness
Adjust backlight brightness for different modes (operation, standby).
Maintenance and Compliance
Cleaning
Clean with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive detergents.
Storage
Unplug the AC adapter if the device is not in use for an extended period. Store in a dry, clean place protected from direct sunlight.
