This manual provides operating instructions for the following systems:
- System: SC-PMX92, SC-PMX90
- Main unit: SA-PMX92, SA-PMX90
- Speakers: SB-PMX70
Illustrations are typically of the SC-PMX92. Features specific to SC-PMX92 are indicated with [PMX92], and features specific to SC-PMX90 are indicated with [PMX90].

Battery:

Caution for AC Mains Lead
For safety, this appliance is supplied with a moulded three-pin mains plug. It contains a 5-ampere fuse. For replacement, use only a 5-ampere fuse approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362, checking for the ASTA or BSI mark on the fuse body. If the plug has a removable fuse cover, ensure it is refitted after replacement. If the cover is lost, the plug must not be used until a replacement is obtained from your dealer.
Before use: Remove the connector cover.
How to replace the fuse:
- Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver.
- Replace the fuse and close or attach the fuse cover.

Placement of Speakers
Place speakers with the tweeter facing inwards. Avoid touching speaker cones if nets are removed to prevent damage.
Use only the supplied speakers for optimal sound quality and to prevent system damage.
Notes:
- Keep speakers at least 10 mm from the main unit for ventilation.
- Place speakers on a flat, safe surface.
- These speakers are not magnetically shielded; keep them away from TVs, PCs, or other magnetism-sensitive equipment.
- Playing at high levels for extended periods can damage the system and reduce its lifespan. Decrease volume if you hear distorted sound or when adjusting sound quality to prevent damage.
CAUTION!
Use speakers only with the recommended system to prevent amplifier/speaker damage or fire hazards. Consult approved service personnel for any damage or performance changes.
Making the Connections
Connect the AC mains lead only after all other connections are made.
- Connect the antenna: Place the antenna for best reception. Use an outdoor antenna if radio reception is poor.
- Connect the speakers: Connect speaker wires to the main unit and speakers, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) to avoid damage.
- Connect the AC mains lead: Use only the supplied AC mains lead.
Conserving Power: The system consumes power even in standby mode. Disconnect the power supply if not in use. Note that some settings may be lost upon disconnection.
Connecting Other Equipment: You can connect devices like DVD players or portable audio players.
- Disconnect the AC mains lead before connecting.
- Switch off all equipment and read their operating instructions.
- Components and cables are sold separately.
- Consult your audio dealer for connecting equipment not described here.
- Using an adaptor may cause sound distortion.
- When enjoying video content, video and audio output may not be synchronized.
Connecting to AUDIO IN terminal:
Connect a DVD player or other audio source using an audio cable (not supplied) to the AUDIO IN terminals on the main unit.
Connecting to OPT IN (Optical Audio In) terminal:
Connect a DVD player or other digital audio source using an optical digital audio cable (not supplied) to the OPT IN terminal. This unit supports linear PCM (LPCM) signals with sampling frequencies of 32, 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 kHz and 16/24 bit quantisation.
Connecting to AUX IN terminal:
Connect a portable audio player using a 3.5 mm analogue audio cable (not supplied) to the AUX IN terminal. Input level can be adjusted; refer to "Using the AUX IN input" (page 11).
Overview of Controls
Main Unit Controls:
- Standby/on switch [], [/I]: Switches between standby and on modes. Unit consumes minimal power in standby.
- Numeric buttons [1-9, 0, S10]: Used for track selection, timer input, etc.
- Delete programmed track: Deletes a programmed track.
- Selector [SELECTOR]: Selects audio source (CD, BLUETOOTH, DAB+, FM, PC, OPT, AUX, AUDIO IN).
- Basic playback controls: Play [►/II], Stop [■], Pause [►/II].
- Sound effects: Select sound effects like D.BASS, PRESET EQ.
- Play menu: Access playback options.
- View content information: Display track, artist, album details.
- Clock and timer operation: Set clock and timers.
- Programme function: Set programmed playback.
- Volume controls: Adjust system volume.
- Mute: Mutes or unmutes audio.
- Setup menu: Enter setup options.
- Radio menu: Access radio-specific settings.
- Option selection: Select options.
- Dim display: Adjust display brightness.
- Display panel: Shows system status and information.
- USB port: For connecting USB devices.
- Bluetooth®-pairing button: Selects Bluetooth® source and initiates pairing.
- Open/Close disc tray: Opens or closes the CD tray.
- Headphones jack: 3.5 mm stereo jack for headphones. Avoid prolonged listening at high volumes.
- Disc tray: Holds the CD. Do not place objects in front of it.
- Remote control sensor: Receives signals from the remote control.
Remote Control Preparation:
- Use AA alkaline or manganese batteries.
- Align battery poles (+/-) correctly.
- Operate within 7 meters and a 30° angle from the unit's sensor, avoiding obstacles.
About Bluetooth®
Panasonic is not responsible for data compromised during wireless transmission. The system uses the 2.4 GHz frequency band. Modifications or disassembly are punishable by law in some countries.
Restrictions of Use: Wireless transmission with all Bluetooth® devices is not guaranteed. Devices must conform to Bluetooth SIG, Inc. standards. Connection or operation may vary by device specifications. Security features are supported but may not be sufficient depending on the environment. Transmit data with caution; the system cannot transmit data to a Bluetooth® device.
Range of Use: Maximum range is 10 meters, decreasing with obstacles or interference.
Interference: Proximity to other 2.4 GHz devices or strong broadcasting signals may cause noise or sound jumps. Keep the system and Bluetooth® devices close and away from interference sources.
Intended Usage: For normal, general use. Avoid use near sensitive equipment or in environments sensitive to radio frequency interference (e.g., airports, hospitals).
Bluetooth® Operations
Listen to audio wirelessly from a Bluetooth® device. Refer to the device's operating instructions.
Connecting via Bluetooth® menu:
- Turn on the Bluetooth® feature of your device and place it near the unit.
- Press [ ] to select "BLUETOOTH". If "PAIRING" is shown, proceed to step 3.
- Press [PLAY MENU] to select "PAIRING" and press [OK], or press and hold [ -PAIRING] on the unit.
- Select "SC-PMX92" or "SC-PMX90" from your Bluetooth® device's menu. The MAC address may appear before the unit name. The connected device name displays briefly.
- Start playback on the Bluetooth® device.
Connecting a paired Bluetooth® device:
- Press [ ] to select "BLUETOOTH". "READY" is displayed.
- Select "SC-PMX92" or "SC-PMX90" from your Bluetooth® device's menu. The connected device name displays briefly.
- Start playback on the Bluetooth® device.
Notes:
- If prompted for a passkey, enter "0000".
- Up to 8 devices can be registered; the oldest is replaced if a 9th is added.
- Only one device can connect at a time.
- When "BLUETOOTH" is selected, the unit attempts to connect to the last paired device ("LINKING" is shown). If it fails, try connecting again.
Bluetooth® transmission mode:
Prioritize connectivity or sound quality. Select "BLUETOOTH", disconnect any existing device, then select "LINK MODE" and choose MODE 1 (connectivity) or MODE 2 (sound quality). MODE 1 is recommended if sound is interrupted or for video synchronization.
Bluetooth® input level:
Adjust input level if sound is too low. Select "INPUT LEVEL" and choose "LOW" or "HIGH". "LOW" is recommended if sound is distorted.
Media Information
Panasonic is not responsible for data loss. Ensure media is finalized before playback.
Compatible USB devices:
- Supports FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 file systems.
- Supports USB 2.0 High Speed.
- Devices over 32 GB may have issues.
- Supported file formats: MP3, AIFF, FLAC, WAV, AAC, DSD.
- Playback order may vary based on file creation.
- Limits: 800 albums, 8000 tracks, 999 tracks per album.
Compatible CD:
- Plays CD-DA format discs.
- Plays CD-R/RW with CD-DA or MP3 content.
- May not play some discs due to recording condition or if not finalized.
- If a disc has both MP3 and CD-DA, the inner part's format is played.
- Does not play packet-written files.
- Disc must conform to ISO9660 level 1 or 2.
- Limits: 99 tracks for CD-DA, 999 tracks/255 albums for MP3.
Inserting Media
CD:
Press [CD/USB] to select "CD". Insert the disc with the label facing up. Remove the CD only after it stops rotating.
USB device:
Press [CD/USB] to select "USB". Insert the USB device directly; do not use an extension cable. Disconnect the USB device after use, preferably after selecting a different source.
Media Playback Controls
Controls are available for CD, USB, and Bluetooth® devices.
- Play [►/II]: Starts playback.
- Stop [■]: Stops playback. For USB, pressing twice stops fully.
- Pause [►/II]: Pauses playback; press again to resume.
- Skip [:/6 or 5/9]: Skips to the next/previous track. Use [3] or [4] for MP3/AIFF/FLAC/WAV/AAC/DSD albums.
- Search: Press and hold [:/6] or [5/9] during play/pause.
Viewing Available Information: Press [DISPLAY] to view track, artist, album, file type, etc. (varies by source).
Play Menu: Use [PLAY MENU] and [2, 1] to select playback modes like OFF, 1-TRACK, 1-ALBUM, RANDOM, REPEAT.
Programme Playback: Allows programming up to 24 tracks. Use [PROGRAM] and numeric buttons to select tracks. For MP3/USB, select album first, then track.
- Check programme contents: Press [:] or [9] in stop mode.
- Clear the last track: Press [DEL] in stop mode.
- Cancel programme mode: Press [PROGRAM] in stop mode.
- Clear all programmed tracks: Press [■] in stop mode, then press [►/II].
FM Radio
Preset up to 30 FM stations. Select "FM" source.
Automatic Presetting:
Select "A.PRESET" via [RADIO MENU]. Choose "LOWEST" or "CURRENT" frequency to start auto-presetting. Press [OK] to begin.
Manual Tuning and Presetting:
Use [6] or [5] (or unit buttons [:/6], [5/9]) to tune. Press [PROGRAM] to set a preset number. Repeat to store more stations.
Selecting a Preset Station:
Use numeric buttons or [:/6], [5/9] to select preset stations. Change tune mode via [RADIO MENU] to "MANUAL" or "PRESET".
Displaying FM Signal Status:
Press [DISPLAY] to show "FM STATUS". "FM ST" indicates stereo reception, "FM - - - -" indicates no or weak reception, "FM MONO" indicates mono mode is set.
RDS Broadcasting (Europe only):
Press [DISPLAY] to show RDS data like "PS" (Programme Service), "PTY" (Programme Type), "FREQ" (Frequency), if available and reception is good.
DAB/DAB+ (PMX92 only)
Select "DAB+" source. An "DAB AUTO SCAN" will start if it's the first time.
DAB/DAB+ Settings:
Use [RADIO MENU] to select "PRIMARY" or "SECONDARY" service, "AUTO CLOCK ADJ" (ON/OFF).
DAB/DAB+ Signal Quality:
Select "SIGNAL QUALITY" via [RADIO MENU] to check reception quality (0-8) while adjusting the antenna.
DAB/DAB+ Auto Scan:
Select "AUTOSCAN" via [RADIO MENU] and press [OK] to start scanning for stations.
DAB/DAB+ Manual Tuning:
Use "MANUAL SCAN" via [RADIO MENU] to select a frequency block to scan.
Memory Presetting:
Preset up to 20 DAB/DAB+ stations. Tune to a station, press [PROGRAM], then select a preset number.
Selecting a Preset Station:
Use numeric buttons or [:/6], [5/9] to select preset stations. Change tune mode via [RADIO MENU] to "STATION" or "PRESET".
Clock and Timers
Setting the Clock:
This is a 24-hour clock. Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to select "CLOCK", then use [3, 4] to set the time and press [OK]. Press [CLOCK/TIMER] again to check the time.
Sleep Timer:
Set the system to turn off after a specified time (30, 60, 90, 120 minutes, or OFF). The remaining time is shown on the display. The sleep timer takes precedence if used with the play timer.
Play Timer:
Set a timer to wake you up. Prepare the music source and volume. Press [CLOCK/TIMER] to "TIMER ADJ", set ON TIME, OFF TIME, and music source (CD, USB, DAB+, FM). Turn the timer on by pressing [F, PLAY]. The system must be switched off for the timer to operate.
Sound Effects
Changing the Sound Quality:
Press [SOUND] to select effects. Use [2, 1] to adjust BASS (-4 to +4), TREBLE (-4 to +4), or SURROUND (ON/OFF). BASS and TREBLE can also be adjusted using the main unit's dials.
Preset EQ:
Select EQ settings like HEAVY, SOFT, CLEAR, VOCAL, or FLAT.
D.BASS:
Enhances bass effect. Toggle "ON D.BASS" or "OFF D.BASS".
Using the AUX IN Input
Connect portable audio players to the AUX IN terminal. Adjust input level by selecting "INPUT LEVEL" via [SOUND] and choosing "LOW" or "HIGH". "LOW" is recommended if sound is distorted.
AUX-IN Auto Play:
The system automatically switches to AUX source when it detects a signal from an external music device, even in standby mode. Enable "AUX-IN AUTO PLAY" via [SETUP]. Note: This function may not work if the external device's volume is too low. Standby power consumption increases when enabled.
Using the PC Input
Play music from a PC via the PC IN terminal using a USB 2.0 cable (not supplied).
Before Connecting to a PC:
- Download and install the dedicated driver for Windows PCs from http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/audio/.
- Download and install the "Panasonic Audio Player 2" application (for Windows and OS X) from the same website.
Listening to Audio from a PC:
- Disconnect the AC mains lead.
- Connect the main unit to a PC using a USB 2.0 cable (Type B to Type A).
- Connect the AC mains lead and turn the system on.
- Select "PC" source using [RADIO, EXT-IN].
- Operate the PC for playback. High-resolution audio playback is recommended with a compatible USB 2.0 High Speed Cable.
Others
Auto Off Function:
The unit enters standby mode automatically after approximately 20 minutes of no sound or operation. To cancel, select "AUTO OFF" via [SETUP] and choose "OFF". This function does not work when connected to a Bluetooth® device.
Software Update:
Check for software updates for improved features at http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/.
Checking Software Version:
Select "SW VER." via [SETUP] to view the installed software version.
Troubleshooting
Before requesting service, perform these checks:
Common Problems:
- Cannot turn on: Ensure AC mains lead is connected and wait 10 seconds before powering on.
- Remote control not working: Check battery installation.
- Sound distorted or no sound: Adjust volume. Check speaker connections. Ensure the unit is not strained by excessive volume or heat. Check digital audio input signals (linear PCM).
- Humming sound: Keep AC mains lead or fluorescent lights away from cables.
- Unit does not work: Unit may have activated safety devices. Switch to standby [/I], disconnect AC, wait 30 seconds, reconnect, wait 10 seconds, then power on. If problem persists, consult dealer.
- Noise heard: In AUX mode, noise may occur if connected to both AUX IN and USB. Remove USB cable.
Disc Issues:
- Display incorrect/Playback not starting: Ensure disc is inserted correctly, is clean, and is a supported type. Condensation may require drying for 1-2 hours.
Radio Issues:
- Poor reception/Beat sound: Keep antenna away from interference sources (computers, TVs). Use an outdoor antenna. Switch off or move TVs away.
- Excessive FM noise: Change FM mode to "MONO" via [RADIO MENU] > "FM MODE".
USB Issues:
- USB device/contents not read: Check file format compatibility.
- Slow USB operation: Large files or memory capacity may cause delays.
- Elapsed time inaccurate: Transfer data or reformat the USB device.
Bluetooth® Issues:
- Pairing fails: Check Bluetooth® device status.
- Connection fails: Re-pair the device. Ensure it's not connected to another device. Try "MODE 1" for LINK MODE if connection is unstable.
- Connected but no audio: Ensure audio output is set to the unit on the Bluetooth® device.
- Sound interrupted: Move device closer, remove obstacles, or distance from interfering 2.4 GHz devices. Use "MODE 1" for stable communication.
Specific Display Messages:
- --:--: Clock not set or power failure.
- ADJUST CLOCK: Clock needs setting.
- ADJUST TIMER: Play timer needs setting.
- AUTO OFF: Unit will enter standby soon; press any button to cancel.
- CHECKING CONNECTION: Checking USB device.
- ERROR: Incorrect operation.
- F / F (number): Unit problem; try power cycle or consult dealer.
- NO DEVICE: USB device not connected.
- NO DISC: No disc or unsupported disc inserted.
- NO PLAY: Unsupported format or corrupted files. Format USB or try again.
- NO PRESET (PMX92): No DAB/DAB+ stations preset.
- NO SIGNAL (PMX92): Station not received; check antenna.
- DEVICE NO RESPONSE / HUB NOT SUPPORTED / NOT SUPPORTED: Unsupported USB device.
- OPT UNLOCKED: "OPT" selected but no device connected or incorrect audio signals.
- PC UNLOCKED: "PC" selected but no PC connected.
- PGM FULL: More than 24 tracks programmed.
- PLAYERROR: Unsupported file played; track skipped.
- READING: Checking CD information or DSD file; wait for completion.
- REMOTE (number): Change remote control code if other Panasonic equipment responds. Follow instructions to set "REMOTE 1" or "REMOTE 2".
- SCAN FAILED (PMX92): Stations not receivable; check antenna.
- USB OVER CURRENT ERROR: USB device draws too much power; remove it.
- VBR: Cannot show remaining time for VBR tracks.
- WAIT: Unit is turning off.
Memory Reset (Initialisation):
Reset memory if there is no response or to clear contents. Disconnect AC, then press and hold [/I] on the unit while reconnecting AC. Hold [/I] until "---------" appears. Release [/I]. All settings revert to factory default.
Remote Control Code:
If other Panasonic equipment responds to this system's remote, change the code. To set "REMOTE 2", select "CD" on the main unit, then press and hold [■] on the unit and [2] on the remote until "REMOTE 2" is shown. Press and hold [OK] and [2] for 4 seconds. Factory default is "REMOTE 1"; repeat with [1] to revert.

This warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year from the purchase date, provided the product was purchased and serviced in Australia by an authorized Panasonic Service Centre with valid proof of purchase.
The warranty does not cover damage or malfunction due to incorrect voltage, installation, accident, misuse, neglect, improper maintenance, power surges, tampering, unauthorized repairs, or exposure to adverse conditions.
Consumable parts, cosmetic parts, worn/damaged parts, and stored data are not covered.
Specific limitations apply to Ethernet connection hardware regarding internet/DLNA setup and associated costs.
To claim warranty service, contact Panasonic Customer Care (132 600) for Service Centre information, then send or take the product with proof of purchase to an authorized centre. You are responsible for freight and insurance costs.
Panasonic products also come with consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. If there is a major failure, you may be entitled to a refund, replacement, or compensation. For non-major failures, Panasonic may repair or replace the product.
