Basic Unit Int egration Below are the basic int egrat ion functions available on all equipment regardless of cont rol mode. Some feat ures are unit configurat ion dependent (heat ing t ype, cooling t ype, et c.). The cont roller's BM S point s list is st atic regardless of configurat ion to accommodat e field configurat ion changes, however, not all point s are applicable every unit . Once the required sensors are inst alled in t he equipment , the only mandat ory requirement s to make the unit operat ional are to enable t he unit , if it hasn't been enabled manually at t he cont roller, and to command occupancy as desired.

Unpacking Int eger Words to Binary Values Binary values can be combined to creat e an int eger word. By doing t his, more informat ion is available t o t he BM Sin a smaller number of point s and less net work traffic. These int eger words need t o be "unpacked" once t he BM S receives t he value.

To unpack the int eger word int o t he binary values, t he integer needs to be convert ed t o a binary number. The int egers in t he program are 32-bit , meaning up to 32 binary values are packed int o t he integer. Each bit can eit her be a 0 (Inact ive) or a 1 (Active).
The BM Sfront end may have a solut ion already int act t o pull individual bit s from an int eger. A " read bit " function looks t o return what value a cert ain bit is in an int eger. Bit number are 0-31 in a 32-bit int eger wit h 0 being t he low est bit and t he furt hest t o t he right in t he binary not at ion of the number. Bit 31 would be t he largest bit and t he furthest t o t he left in binary notat ion.

BACnet Int egrat ion Guide M UA_01.001 Rev 2

Page | 2

If t he front end does not have a " read bit " or "bit ext ract" f unct ion, t he binary value of individual bit s can be det ermined by continually dividing t he quotient of t he int eger by 2, the remainder of t he division is t he value of t he bit (0 or 1). A funct ion called M odulo or " mod" and is commonly used to ret urn t he remainder of int eger division.

Equat ion: x = (round down(a/ 2b) )mod 2

· x is Boolean value for bit b, where 0 is inactive and 1 is active. · a is the int eger word value · b is t he bit of the binary number used as an exponent · The result of a/ 2b should round down t o a whole number, t runcating t he decimal. For example, 5/ 21 is 2.5,
however, only t he 2 is used.

Exam ple:

If t he Device_Offline_Word (IV-12) is a decimal value of 11, t he binary value would be 1011. This binary value would mean that Space Thermost ats 1, 2, and 4 are offline. The rest of t he bit s in t he binary number would be a Boolean value of 0. (Please see Binary Tables.)

· Bit 0 = 11/ 20 mod 2...t his result s in a Boolean of 1 or Active for bit 0. · Bit 1 = 11/ 21 mod 2...t his result s in a Boolean of 1 or Active for bit 1. · Bit 2 = 11/ 22 mod 2...t his result s in a Boolean of 0 or Inactive for bit 2. · Bit 3 = 11/ 23 mod 2...t his result s in a Boolean of 1 or Active for bit 3.
