Introduction
This addendum is designed to assist with the installation of programmes on this Digital TV and activating the hotel mode. It should be used in conjunction with the television's User Manual.
Caution: Please handle the TV with care and wipe with a soft cloth to ensure your TV keeps looking new. ⚠️
Benefits of the Philips Hotel TV
This TV is specifically designed for hotels, offering features to maximize convenience for the hotel and meet guest needs:
- Welcome Message: Displays a friendly welcome to guests upon activation.
- Remote Control Features: Includes low battery detection and an anti-theft screw for battery security.
- User Menu Control: The user menu can be blocked to prevent guests from altering settings (programmes, picture, sound), ensuring TVs are always set up correctly.
- Switch-on Settings: A specific volume and programme can be selected to start automatically.
- Volume Limiting: The maximum volume can be restricted to prevent disturbance.
- Key Blocking: The VOLUME +/-, PROGRAM +/-, and MENU keys on the television itself can be blocked.
- Screen Information Suppression: Screen information can be hidden.
- Programme Blanking: Programmes can be blanked.
Installing Channels
Installing Digital Programs (for 20/26/32HF5335D)
Ensure the TV is in Digital mode. If in Analogue mode, press the A/D (Analogue/Digital) key on the Remote Control.
- Press the MENU (Digital) key on the Remote Control.
- Use the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll to INSTALLATION and press the Right Arrow key.
- Use the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll to SERVICE SETUP and press the Right Arrow key.
- Use the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll to REINSTALL ALL SERVICES and press the Right Arrow key.
- Use the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll to SEARCH and press OK to start the scan. The TV will automatically scan and install all available Digital TV channels and Radio stations. The TV menu will indicate the number of digital services found upon completion.
- Press the OK key again to store all found services.
Installing Analogue Programs
Ensure the TV is in Analogue mode. If in Digital mode, press the A/D (Analogue/Digital) key on the Remote Control.
- Press the MENU (TV) key on the Remote Control.
- Use the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll to INSTALL and press OK.
- Use the Up/Down Arrow keys to scroll to AUTO STORE and press OK.
The TV will start scanning and installing all available Analogue TV channels automatically. This may take a few minutes. The display will show the scan progress and the number of programmes found.

Activating the Hotel Mode Setup Menu (BDS)
- Switch on the television and select an analogue channel.
- On the Remote Control, press the keys: [3, 1, 9, 7, 5, 3, MUTE].
- The BDS HOTEL MODE SETUP MENU will appear.
- Use the cursor keys to select and change settings.

5. Select "STORE" and press [CURSOR RIGHT] to save settings and exit. Press [MENU] to exit without saving.
6. For BDS Hotel Mode settings to take effect, turn the TV off and then back on.
BDS Hotel Mode Functions Explained
- BDS MODE ON: User menu is blocked. All Hotel Mode Setup menu settings are active.
- BDS MODE OFF: TV operates as a normal consumer TV.
- SWITCH ON VOLUME: Sets the volume level upon startup. Options: LAST STATUS (previous level) or USER DEFINED (installer specified). Note: Cannot exceed MAXIMUM VOL.
- MAXIMUM VOL: Sets the upper limit for TV volume.
- SWITCH ON CHANNEL: Sets the channel upon startup. Options: LAST STATUS (previous channel) or USER DEFINED (any analogue channel).
- POWER ON: Sets the TV's state after mains power activation. Options: ON (always on), STANDBY (always standby), LAST STATUS (previous power state).
- DISPLAY MESSAGE: Enables/disables the Welcome Message (30 seconds display). If OSD DISPLAY is OFF, Welcome Message is disabled.
- WELCOME MESSAGE: Allows a custom greeting (2 lines, max 20 alphanumeric characters per line). Use arrow keys to create. To clear, select CLEAR.
- LOCAL KEYBOARD LOCK: Blocks TV's physical keys. Options: ON (VOLUME +/-, PROGRAM +/-, MENU blocked), OFF (normal function), ALL (VOLUME +/-, PROGRAM +/-, MENU, POWER blocked).
- REMOTE CONTROL LOCK: Blocks remote control keys. Options: ON (standard keys disabled), OFF (all keys function).
- OSD DISPLAY: Controls screen information display. Options: ON (normal info), OFF (suppressed).
- HIGH SECURITY MODE: Controls access to BDS Hotel Mode Setup Menu. ON requires special BDS Setup Remote (RC2573/01). OFF allows access via BDS Setup Remote or normal Remote Control (with key code sequence).
- AUTO SCART: Enables/disables auto-detection of AV devices connected via Scart.
- MONITOR OUT: Enables/disables audio & video output. ON allows output, OFF disables to prevent illegal copying.
- BLANK CHANNEL: Disables video display for a channel, but audio remains. Useful for audio-only applications (e.g., radio). ON blanks the current programme, OFF shows it normally. Can be set per channel using P+/- keys.
Low Battery Check
This feature checks the TV Remote Control's battery level. If low, a message appears. (Note: Works only with specific remote models). To activate, hold the Remote Control in front of the TV and press and hold the OK button for at least 5 seconds.
Cloning of Settings
This feature allows cloning of analogue TV channels and settings using the SmartLoader tool.
For 15/20HF5234:
- Wireless cloning with SmartLoader 22AV1120 or 22AV1135.
- Cloning of all adjustable TV settings + analogue channel table.
For 20/26/32HF5335D:
- Wired cloning with SmartLoader 22AV1135 (using provided wire).
- Cloning of all adjustable TV settings + analogue channel table (digital channel table via automatic installation).
Philips SmartLoader (22AV1135/00)
An installation tool for easy and fast copying of TV settings on Philips Institutional TVs.
Modes of Operation:
- Wireless mode: Uses infrared sensor (for 15/20HF5234). Slide switch to the [Wi-Fi icon] and point towards TV's infrared receiver (5-30cm distance).
- Wired mode: Uses accessory cable (for 20/26/32HF5335D). Slide switch to the [Network cable icon]. Connect the appropriate 3-pin or 4-pin connector wire to the TV (e.g., SERV C) and the RJ11 jack to the SmartLoader.
Installation Procedure:
- Choosing a Master TV: The TV set whose settings will be copied.
- Programming the SmartLoader:
- Wireless: Set SmartLoader to "Wireless", turn on TV, point SmartLoader at TV, press "MENU".
- Wired: Connect SmartLoader, set to "Wired", turn on TV, point SmartLoader at TV, press "MENU".
The Master TV will display:

. Highlight "TV TO SMARTLOADER" and press the right arrow key on the SmartLoader to start programming. A progress bar (0-100%) will show. Upon completion, "DONE" will appear. - Copying Settings to Other TVs:
- Wireless: Set SmartLoader to "Wireless", turn on TV, point SmartLoader at TV, press "MENU".
- Wired: Connect SmartLoader, set to "Wired", turn on TV, point SmartLoader at TV, press "MENU".
Highlight "SMARTLOADER TO TV" and press the right arrow key to initiate copying. A progress bar (0-100%) will show. Upon completion, "GOODBYE" will appear. The TV will go to Standby mode and be configured upon next power-on.
Problems and Solutions:
- "I2C ERROR": Bad connection or data transmission. Try again.
- "WRONG VERSION": Incompatible software code in SmartLoader. Reprogram from a compatible Master TV.
- TV doesn't respond: Check SmartLoader LED (green for operational, red for low batteries). Bring SmartLoader closer to TV's infrared receiver.
Notes:
- Use 3 R6/AA batteries in the SmartLoader.
- SmartLoader copies settings only between TVs of the same type/model.
- Cannot copy digital channel tables for Digital TVs.
- For DVB (European Digital) TVs, switch to Analog mode first.
Operation
Picture Settings
Access via MENU > Picture. Adjustments include:
- Brightness: Picture brilliance.
- Colour: Colour intensity.
- Contrast: Difference between light and dark tones.
- Sharpness: Picture definition.
- Colour Temp.: Colour rendering (Cold/bluer, Normal, Warm/redder).
- Store: Saves picture settings.
Sound Adjustments
Access via MENU > Sound. Settings include:
- Equalizer: Adjusts sound tone (100 Hz to 8000 Hz).
- Balance: Balances sound between left and right speakers.
- Delta Volume: Compensates for volume discrepancies between programs or EXT sockets (for programs 0-40).
- AVL (Automatic Volume Leveller): Limits sound increases, especially during program changes or ads.
- Dolby Virtual: Activates/deactivates surround sound effect.
- Store: Saves sound settings.
Feature Settings
Access via MENU > Features.
- Contrast +: Automatic contrast adjustment, setting darkest part to black.
- Sleep: Sets an automatic standby period.
Screen Formats
Optimizes picture display for 16:9 (widescreen) or 4:3 (conventional) formats.
- For 4:3 screens: Modes include 4:3, Expand 4:3, Compress 16:9.
- For 16:9 screens: Modes include 4:3, Zoom 14:9, Zoom 16:9, Subtitle Zoom, Super Wide, Widescreen.
The TV may also feature automatic switching if the signal provides format information.
Teletext
Teletext provides information and subtitles. Access via the Teletext button on the remote.
- Teletext Call: Enters/exits Teletext mode. Displays a summary of accessible items.
- Selecting a Page: Enter page number using numerical keys or P-/+ keys.
- Direct Access to Items: Uses coloured keys to access specific items or pages.
- Contents: Returns to the contents page (usually page 100).
- Stop Sub-page Acquisition: Stops/resumes sub-page display.
- Double Page Teletext: Displays two pages side-by-side (version dependent).
- Hidden Information: Displays/hides concealed information (e.g., games, solutions).
- Enlarge a Page: Displays the top or bottom half of a page.
- Favourite Pages: Store up to 4 favourite pages accessible via coloured keys. Set via MENU > Favourite Pages mode.
Using the Radio
- Choosing Radio Mode: Press AV key > select FM Radio > press .
- Selecting Programmes: Use 0-9 or P-/+ keys (stations 1-40).
- List of Radio Stations: Press key to display/hide the list.
- Radio Menus: Use MENU key for specific settings.
- Searching Radio Stations: Use Install menu (Auto Store or Manual Store).
- Screen Saver: Activate/deactivate in Features menu.
Using in PC Monitor Mode
Note: Slight interference may occur in noisy environments; use a good quality DVI cable.
- PC Mode: Connect computer and adjust resolution.
- Choosing PC Mode: Press AV key > select PC > press .
- PC Menus: Access via MENU for Picture (Brightness, Contrast, Horizontal/Vertical, Colour Temp), Audio Selection, Features (Phase/Clock, Format, Auto Adjust), and Reset To Factory Setting.
Using in HD (High Definition) Mode
(Available on certain versions)
- HD Mode: Provides clearer, sharper pictures via DVI-I inputs with HD equipment. Connect HD equipment first.
- Choosing HD Mode: Press AV key > select HD > press .
- HD Menus: Access via MENU for Picture (Brightness, Colour, Contrast, Sharpness, Colour Temp, Store), Sound (Equalizer, Balance, Delta Volume, AVL, Dolby Virtual, Store), and Features (Sleep, Horizontal).

Connecting Peripheral Equipment
The television has EXT1 socket (audio, CVBS/RGB inputs/outputs) and side connections (audio, CVBS/S-VHS inputs, headphone out).
Video Recorder
Connect using a euroconnector cable. If no euroconnector socket, use aerial cable and tune test signal to programme 0. Press 0 key to reproduce picture. For video recorder with decoder, connect decoder to second euroconnector socket.
Other Equipment
Connect satellite receivers, decoders, CDVs, games, etc. using the shown connections.
Side Connections
Connections include Headphone, Audio In, Video In, S-Video, DVI Audio In. For mono sets, connect sound to AUDIO L or R input.
HD Equipment
Connect HD equipment via DVI-I inputs (Analogue or Digital). Select HD via AV key.
Computer
- PC with DVI: Connect computer DVI output to TV's DVI-I In. Connect computer Audio Out to TV's DVI Audio In.
- PC with VGA: Connect computer VGA output via VGA/DVI-I cable* to TV's DVI-I In. Connect computer Audio Out to TV's DVI Audio In. (*Cable not supplied).
Configure Computer for Optimum Resolution:
- 15PF5121: 1024 x 768, 75 Hz
- 20PF5121: 640 x 480, 75 Hz
- 20PF5321: 1280 x 768, 60 Hz
- 23PF5321: 1280 x 768, 60 Hz
Practical Information
Tips
- Poor Reception: Mountains/buildings can cause ghosting. Try fine-tuning, adjusting aerial orientation, or using an external aerial.
- No Picture: Check aerial connection, system setting (p.6). Ensure euroconnector cables are properly connected.
- No Sound: Check TV system setting (p.6). Ensure audio output is connected correctly.
- PC Mode Doesn't Work: Verify computer display resolution compatibility (p.13).
- Snowy Picture (HD-D Mode): May indicate HDCP authentication failure. Check digital equipment manual.
- Remote Control: If unresponsive, replace battery.
- Standby: Set automatically enters low-power standby after 15 mins of no signal.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol-based or solvent products.
- Still No Results: Disconnect mains plug for 30 seconds, then reconnect. For breakdowns, contact dealer service.
Glossary
- DVI (Digital Visual Interface): Converts analog signals to digital for monitors.
- HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital-Content Protection): Secure copy protection for digital content.
- RGB signals: Red, Green, Blue video signals for picture quality.
- S-VHS Signals: Separate Y/C video signals for better picture quality.
- NICAM sound: Digital sound transmission.
- System: TV broadcast standards (BG, DK, I, L'). Not to be confused with PAL/SECAM.

- Positioning the TV: Place on a solid surface, away from heat/light sources. Ensure 5 cm clearance for ventilation. For domestic use only.
- General Points: Refer to 'Tips' section.
- Interference: Contact Department of Trade and Industry's Radio Interference Investigation Service or consult booklet "How to Improve Television and Radio Reception".
- Mains Connection: Check mains supply voltage matches the type plate.
- Important: Apparatus uses a 13AMP plug. Replace fuse only with BS 1362 approved fuse of the same value. Do not remove mains plug to maintain EMC directive conformity.
- Connecting the Aerial: Connect to the socket marked :. Use a suitable aerial for your locality. For connecting other equipment (TV games, video camera), use a combiner unit.
- Fitting the Stand: Use only the provided stand and ensure fixings are tight. Never use a makeshift stand.
