The induction hob features multiple cooking zones:

The hob has a glass plate and a control panel.

Control Panel

The control panel includes:

Induction Cooking

Induction cooking is a safe, advanced, efficient, and economical technology. It uses electromagnetic vibrations to generate heat directly in the pan. The glass surface becomes hot only because the pan eventually warms it up.

Diagram: A pan is shown on a cooking zone. Underneath the pan is a magnetic circuit, then the ceramic glass plate, and finally the induction coil with induced currents.

Before Using Your New Induction Hob

Using the Touch Controls

Choosing the Right Cookware

Diagrams: Examples of good and bad pan placement are shown. Good placement involves centering the pan on the cooking zone. Bad placement includes pans with jagged edges or curved bases.

Make sure the base of your pan is smooth, sits flat against the glass, and is the same size as the cooking zone. Use pans with a diameter as large as the graphic of the zone selected for best efficiency. Using a pan slightly wider will mean energy is used at its maximum efficiency. A pan less than the minimum dimensions detailed below could be undetected by the hob.

Always lift pans off the induction hob – do not slide them, or they may scratch the glass.

Pan Dimensions

Cooking zone Minimum [mm] Maximum [mm]
1 160 210 x 185
2 160 210 x 185
3 250 210 x 383
4 160 210
5 160 180
6 120 150

Using Your Induction Hob

To Start Cooking

  1. Touch the ON/OFF control. The hob beeps once, and heating zone selection controls show '--', indicating standby mode.
  2. Place a suitable pan on the desired cooking zone. Ensure the bottom of the pan and the cooking zone surface are clean and dry.
  3. Each heating zone has an independent slider and boost control for power levels.
  4. Adjust the heat setting by touching the slider control. If no heat setting is chosen within 1 minute, the hob will automatically switch off. You will need to start again. You can modify the heat setting at any time during cooking.

If the display flashes 'H' alternately with the heat setting, this means:

No heating occurs unless a suitable pan is on the cooking zone. The display will automatically turn off after 2 minutes if no suitable pan is placed on it.

When You Have Finished Cooking

Warning: 'H' will show which cooking zone is hot to touch. It disappears when the surface has cooled down. This can also be used as an energy-saving function if you want to heat further pans using the residual heat.

To Unlock the Controls

Warning: When the hob is in lock mode, all controls are disabled except the ON/OFF button. You can turn the hob off in an emergency using the ON/OFF control, but you must unlock it first for subsequent operations.

Over-Temperature Protection

A temperature sensor monitors the temperature inside the induction hob. If an excessive temperature is detected, the hob will stop operation automatically.

Detection of Small Articles

When an unsuitable size or non-magnetic pan [e.g., aluminum], or a small item [e.g., knife, fork, key] is left on the hob, the hob will automatically switch to standby after 1 minute. The fan will continue cooling the induction hob for a further 1 minute.

Auto Shutdown Protection

Auto shutdown is a safety feature that automatically turns off the hob if you forget to turn it off. The default working times for various power levels are shown in the table below:

Power level 1-6 7-9 10-15 Boost
Default working timer [hours] 6 5 2 2

Warning: People with a heart pacemaker should consult their doctor before using this unit.

When a pan is removed, the induction hob stops heating immediately and automatically switches off after 2 minutes.

Timer Control

The timer can be used to turn one or more cooking zones off after a set time. The maximum timer setting is 99 minutes.

Setting the Timer to Turn One Cooking Zone Off

Note: When setting the time, the focus indicator on the time display will be active. Once set, the timer begins counting down, showing the remaining time and a flashing timer indicator.

When the cooking timer expires, the corresponding zone will switch off automatically. Other cooking zones will continue operating if they were previously turned on.

Setting the Timer for More Zones

When setting timers for multiple zones simultaneously, the clock indicator for each relevant zone will remain on. The clock indicator for the zone with the shortest timing will flash, and its remaining time will be displayed.

Diagrams: Illustrate setting timers for single and multiple zones.

Boost Function

Power Limitation Function

This function allows you to set a maximum power draw level for the hob, useful for lower amperage electrical supplies. For example, with a 16A supply, you can restrict the hob to 3.5kW.

To Enter the Power Limitation Function

  1. Press the ON/OFF button for 1 second. The hob beeps, and displays show "--", indicating standby mode.
  2. Within 15 seconds, press and hold the Pause/Lock button for 3 seconds. The Child Lock activates. "Lo" and "--" will display alternately.
  3. Press and hold the Boost control for the lower-left cooking zone. The display for this zone will show "c".
  4. Press the Boost control for the lower-left cooking zone again. The display will show "c3" indicating Power Limitation Mode. The corresponding power limit appears on the timer control display.
  5. To change the power limit, press the Boost control for the lower-left cooking zone. Each press cycles through levels: "25" (2.5kW), "35" (3.5kW), "45" (4.5kW), "55" (5.5kW), "65" (6.5kW), "74" (7.4kW).
  6. Once a power level is selected, press and hold the PAUSE/LOCK control to confirm. The hob returns to standby mode with the new maximum power level.

Note: The hob is set to the highest power level ‘74′ by default. If there is a power cut, the hob will remember the set Power Limitation level.

Cooking Guidelines

General Frying

Simmering

Simmering occurs below boiling point (around 85°C), with occasional bubbles rising to the surface. It's ideal for soups, tender stews, egg-based, and flour-thickened sauces. Some tasks, like cooking rice by absorption, may require a higher setting than the lowest to ensure proper cooking within the recommended time.

Searing Steak

  1. Allow steak to reach room temperature for about 20 minutes before cooking.
  2. Heat a heavy-based frying pan.
  3. Brush both sides of the steak with oil. Add a small amount of oil to the hot pan and place the steak in it.
  4. Turn the steak only once during cooking. Cooking time varies from 2-8 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness. Press the steak to gauge doneness.
  5. Let the steak rest on a warm plate for a few minutes before serving to allow it to relax and become tender.

Stir-Frying

  1. Choose an induction-compatible flat-based wok or large frying pan.
  2. Have all ingredients and equipment ready. Stir-frying should be quick; cook large quantities in smaller batches.
  3. Preheat the pan briefly and add two tablespoons of oil.
  4. Cook meat first, set aside, and keep warm.
  5. Stir-fry vegetables until hot but still crisp. Reduce the cooking zone setting, return the meat to the pan, and add sauce.
  6. Stir ingredients gently to heat through.
  7. Serve immediately.

Detection of Small Articles: If an unsuitable pan or small item [e.g., knife, fork, key] is left on the hob, it will automatically go to standby in 1 minute. The fan will continue cooling the hob for a further 1 minute.

Heat Settings

The following settings are guidelines; the exact setting depends on cookware and quantity. Experiment to find what works best for you.

HEAT SETTING SUITABILITY
1-2 Delicate warming for small amounts of food. Melting chocolate, butter, and foods that burn quickly. Gentle simmering. Slow warming. Reheating.
3-5 Rapid simmering. Cooking rice. Pancakes. Sautéing.
6-11 Stir-frying. Searing. Bringing soup to the boil. Boiling water.

Care and Maintenance

WHAT? HOW? IMPORTANT
Everyday soiling [fingerprints, marks, stains from food or non-sugary spills]. 1. Switch off power. 2. Apply hob cleaner while glass is warm [not hot]. 3. Rinse and wipe dry. 4. Switch power back on. When power is off, the 'hot surface' indication is off, but the zone may still be hot. Take extreme care.
Boil-overs, melts, and hot sugary spills on the glass. Remove immediately with a suitable scraper [fish slice, palette knife, razor blade scraper]. Hold blade at a 30° angle. Clean up with a damp cloth or paper towel. Follow steps 2-4 for everyday soiling. Heavy-duty scourers, some nylon scourers, and harsh/abrasive cleaners may scratch the glass. Always check cleaner suitability. Never leave cleaning residue on the hob, as it may stain the glass. Cut hazard: scraper blades are razor-sharp. Use with extreme care and store safely out of reach of children.
Spills on the touch controls. 1. Switch off power. 2. Soak up spill. 3. Wipe with a clean damp sponge or cloth. 4. Wipe dry with paper towel. 5. Switch power back on. The hob may beep and turn off if liquid is on the controls. Ensure controls are dry before turning the hob back on.

Troubleshooting

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES WHAT TO DO
The induction hob cannot be turned on. No power. Ensure hob is connected to power and switched on. Check for power outages. If the problem persists, call a qualified technician.
The touch controls are unresponsive. The controls are locked. Unlock the controls (see 'Using your Induction Hob' section).
The touch controls are difficult to operate. Slight film of water over controls; using the tip of your finger. Ensure the touch control area is dry; use the ball of your finger.
The glass is being scratched. Rough-edged cookware; unsuitable abrasive scourer or cleaning products. Use cookware with flat, smooth bases. See 'Choosing the right cookware'. Use appropriate cleaning methods.
Some pans make crackling or clicking noises. Cookware construction [layers of different metals vibrating differently]. This is normal for cookware and does not indicate a fault.
The induction hob makes a low humming noise when used on a high heat setting. Caused by induction cooking technology. This is normal. The noise should quieten or disappear when the heat setting is decreased.
Fan noise coming from the induction hob. A cooling fan has activated to prevent electronics from overheating. It may continue to run after the hob is turned off. This is normal and needs no action. Do not switch off the power at the wall while the fan is running.
Pans do not become hot and '--' appears in the display. The induction hob cannot detect the pan because it is not suitable for induction cooking; the pan is too small or not properly centered. Use cookware suitable for induction cooking. Center the pan and ensure its base matches the cooking zone size.
The induction hob or a cooking zone has turned itself off unexpectedly, a tone sounds and an error code is displayed. Technical fault. Note the error code, switch off the hob at the wall, and contact Caple Service on 0117 938 1900.
