The diagram illustrates the Grainfather Sparge Water Heater 40L. Key components and features are:

  • Water Level Indicators: Easy-to-read indicators inside the unit, with a dead space of 2.5L.
  • Indicator Lights: Lights for 'Keep Warm' and 'Heating' status.
  • Thermostat Dial: For setting the desired water temperature.
  • Ball Valve Tap: For dispensing hot water.
  • On/Off Switch: To power the unit on and off.

Assembly

Before assembling this product, you will need a Phillips screwdriver.

Installing the Lid

  1. Place the handle on the top of the lid.
  2. Take the screw and thread on the stainless-steel washer, then the silicone washer.
  3. Using a Phillips screwdriver, tighten the screw through the hole in the lid and into the threaded hole in the handle.

Assembling the Tap

  1. Remove the stainless-steel nut and rubber gasket from the ball valve tap. From the inside, put the tap's threaded shank through the bottom hole on the Sparge Water Heater.
  2. Place the silicone washer on the threaded shank on the inside of the Sparge Water Heater.
  3. While holding the tap with one hand to ensure that you keep the tap facing the right direction, install the nut onto the threaded shank.
  4. Tighten the nut to just beyond finger tight.
  5. Test for leaks by filling the unit with enough water to cover the shank.
  6. If there are leaks, ensure that the silicone washer is flat and centred on the shank.

How to Use

  1. Remove the lid and fill the Sparge Water Heater with tap water. Do not fill past the 'max' level indicator on the inside of the unit.
  2. Replace the lid and plug the unit into a power socket.
  3. Press the 'on' switch. The heating light will illuminate and the water will begin to heat.
  4. Set the required temperature on the thermostat dial. Once the temperature has been reached, the 'keep warm' light will automatically switch on and the water will be kept at the specific temperature until required.
  5. NOTE: The thermostat has a hysteresis of 5°C (10°F), so it is important to have a thermometer to check the temperature and to make sure that the water is at 75°C (167°F).
  6. Use the tap to dispense the water.
  7. Always make sure that approx. 3 cups of water remain in the appliance to avoid it overheating.

NOTE: This device has a thermal cut off switch to prevent dry boil. If the element overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn off the machine. If you experience overheating, please wait a few minutes for the appliance to cool down and reset the temperature.

Instructions for Safe Use

  • Do not remove the lid while boiling.
  • Position the lid so that steam is directed away from the handle.
  • Do not carry the Sparge Water Heater while it contains liquid.
  • Do not overfill the product as boiling water may overflow.
  • If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent, or a qualified person to avoid a hazard.
  • This appliance should not be used by children. Keep the product and its cord out of the reach of children.
  • This product is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  • Do not use a high-pressure washer when cleaning. The product must not be immersed in water or liquid.

Advice for Cleaning & Storage

  • Always disconnect the appliance before cleaning.
  • For the first clean, rinse with clean water to remove any dust and cardboard debris.
  • After use, the appliance should be cleaned immediately. If the remnants of wort and malt appear on the surfaces, do not let these dry out as this will significantly complicate the cleaning process.
  • All stainless-steel components can be cleaned using a conventional, unscented detergent. Abrasive agents and sponges/brushes could cause scratching, and are not suitable for use. Ideally, use a dish brush to clean the base of the unit.
  • Clean the valve and all components.
  • After cleaning, allow the product to air dry or use a towel.
  • Do not store in a damp area as this could cause damage to the product.
