Connect the Switch
Sample connections:
- Internet
- Network router
- GS752TPP switch
- PoE+ access points
- PoE+ conference phone
Important: This switch is designed for indoor use only. If you want to connect to a device located outdoors, the outdoor device must be properly grounded and surge protected, and you must install an Ethernet surge protector inline between the switch and the outdoor device. Failure to do so can damage the switch.
WARNING: Before connecting this switch to outdoor cables or devices, see https://kb.netgear.com/000057103 for safety and warranty information.
- Connect devices to the RJ-45 ports (1-48) on the switch front panel using Category 5e (Cat 5e) Ethernet cables for Gigabit Ethernet connections.
- Connect one port on the switch to a network that includes a DHCP server, such as a router.
- Power on the switch and wait two minutes. The switch will automatically be assigned a new IP address if connected to a network with a DHCP server. (The default switch IP address is 192.168.0.239.)
- To use an SFP port, insert an SFP transceiver module (purchased separately from NETGEAR).
Check the PoE Status
The switch can supply up to 30W PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) to each port. The maximum PoE power budget is 380W for model GS752TPv2 and 760W for model GS752TPP.
The PoE Max LED indicates the status of the PoE budget:
- Off: Sufficient. More than 7W of PoE power is available.
- Solid yellow: Less than 7W of PoE power is available.
- Blinking yellow: At least once during the previous two minutes, less than 7W of PoE power was available.
Discover the Switch in Your Network
You can use the NETGEAR Insight app or other discovery methods to find the switch's IP address.
Use the NETGEAR Insight App
- Download and open the NETGEAR Insight app on your mobile device.
- Log in to your NETGEAR account or create one.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to register the switch and activate your warranty. You can choose to manage the switch from the device UI or remotely via NETGEAR Insight.
- Option 1 (Same Network): If the switch and your mobile device are on the same network, the switch and its IP address will appear in the devices list. Select the switch or tap 'Unclaimed', then tap 'ADD DEVICE'.
- Option 2 (Different Networks): If the switch does not appear, tap '+' in the upper-right corner, then scan the barcode or QR code, or type the serial number.
Use Another Method to Discover the Switch
- NETGEAR Switch Discovery Tool (NSDT): Download from www.netgear.com/support/product/netgear-switch-discovery-tool.aspx for Mac or Windows.
- Smart Control Center (SCC): Download from www.netgear.com/support/product/SCC for Windows.
Log In to the Device UI to Configure the Switch
You can use the switch as plug-and-play or configure it via its web interface.
- Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same network as the switch.
- Enter the switch's IP address in the browser's address field.
- If the switch is connected to the Internet, the 'Register to activate your warranty' page will display. You can register, enter a registration key, or skip registration to access the UI. Registration is recommended to ensure full warranty entitlement.
- Enter the default device admin password ('password') and click 'Go'.
- If prompted, change the default password for security.
- The System Information page will display, allowing you to configure the switch. For detailed configuration, download the user manual from www.netgear.com/support/.
Change the Management Mode to Insight
To manage the switch remotely via NETGEAR Insight Cloud Portal or the Insight app, change the management mode in the device UI.
- Open a web browser on a computer or tablet connected to the switch's network.
- Enter the switch's IP address in the browser's address field.
- Enter your device admin password and click 'Go'.
- Navigate to the System Information page.
- Select the 'NETGEAR Insight Mobile App and Insight Cloud Portal' radio button.
- Click 'Apply' and confirm in the pop-up windows.
Note: Changing the management mode to Insight resets the switch to factory defaults. You will then need to configure it using the NETGEAR Insight Cloud Portal or app. You can still access a limited device UI menu using your Insight network password.
PoE Considerations
The switch prioritizes PoE and PoE+ power delivery in ascending port order (1 to 48). The total power budget is 380W for GS752TPv2 and 760W for GS752TPP.
The table below shows standard power ranges for different PoE classes, assuming a maximum cable length of 328 feet (100 meters). Use shorter cables if a device receives insufficient PoE power.
Device | Compatible PoE class | Power class standard | Maximum power supplied by the switch | Power delivered to the device |
---|---|---|---|---|
0 | PoE and PoE+ | Default power (full) | 15.4W | 0.44W-12.95W |
1 | PoE and PoE+ | Very low power | 4.0W | 0.44W-3.84W |
2 | PoE and PoE+ | Low power | 7.0W | 3.84W-6.49W |
3 | PoE and PoE+ | Mid power | 15.4W | 6.49W-12.95W |
4 | PoE+ | High power | 30.0W | 12.95W-25.5W |
PoE Troubleshooting
- If the PoE Max LED is solid yellow, disconnect PoE devices to prevent PoE oversubscription.
- If a PoE LED is solid yellow, a PoE fault occurred. Check the connected Powered Device (PD), restart it, or try a shorter cable.
- If the PoE power demand exceeds the switch's maximum level (15.4W for PoE, 30W for PoE+), restart the PD or try a shorter cable.
- If the PoE current or voltage is outside the permitted range, check the PD, restart it, or try a shorter cable.
