TOOLS AND RESOURCES REQUIRED · Marine grade silicone · Torque Wrench · 1/2" Box End or Socket Wrench · Crane or other support system for outboard · A second person to help with installation · Outboard mounting bolts (long enough to support extra 1/2" width of adapter bracket) MOUNTING CONSIDERATIONS Before mounting your Talon Adapter Bracket, please give consideration to the following: 1. Attaching the Adapter Bracket will require removal of the Outboard engine and/or Jack Plate. Minn Kota recommends that the installation be performed by a marine dealer or servicing center. NOTICE: Longer mounting bolts than originally provided by the outboard manufacturer may be needed for proper installation of the Jack Plate and/or Adapter Bracket. CAUTION Support the Outboard before any work has begun on the bracket installation. An unsecured motor may cause harm from falling. The Adapter Bracket can be purchased to accommodate for either a Port or Starboard installation. If an Adapter Bracket is installed to both the Port and Starboard side, the Shim Brackets will not be used and will be replaced with the Elbow Bracket for that side. If the boat is to be rigged that way, it may NOTICE: Only one Elbow Bracket (Item #2 or Item #4) will be included. The Bracket selected will be dependent on if a Port or Starboard installation was selected. The Adapter Bracket can be mounted in 3 possible ways: a. between the Jack Plate and Transom b. between the Outboard and Jack Plate or c. between the Outboard and Transom. The mounting instructions are described below and will be similar for all installation methods or Jack Plate offset distances. 2 2 3a 3b Transom 3c Jack Plate Outboard Transom Starboard Port Outboard Transom Jack Plate Outboard 4. The Shim Plate should be orientated so that the Mounting Holes mirror the holes in the Elbow Bracket from the centerline of the boat. Which Mounting Holes on the Elbow Bracket and the Shim Plate used will depend on the Outboard motor installed. The flat edge of the Elbow Bracket should face downward. Remove the mounting bolts that secure the Outboard to the Transom from one side and loosen the mounting bolts on the opposite side. Tilt the Outboard motor for the installation steps below. Repeat for the opposite side to complete the installation. Complete Typical Installation NOTICE: These installation steps switch between a starboard and port installation and are for reference only. They may differ from your actual installation. INSTALLATION Installation without Jack Plate 1 ITEM(S) NEEDED #2 x 1 #4 x 1 #10 x 1 NOTICE: The Outboard doesn't have to be completely removed. Remove the two mounting bolts from one side and loosen the mounting bolts on the opposite side. Tilt the Outboard motor for the installation steps below. Repeat for opposite side to complete installation. a. Support the Outboard and remove the hardware that attaches the Outboard to the boat Transom. Determine if the Adapter Bracket purchased is installed on the Port or Starboard side. b. Take the Elbow Bracket (Item #2 or Item #4) and the Shim Plate (Item #10) if needed, and apply marine grade silicon to all of the transom-side Mounting Holes the bracket. The Brackets selected will be dependent on a Port or Starboard mount for each individual installation. 1a Transom Elbow Bracket Port 2 c. Install the Elbow Bracket and Shim Plate between 1b the Outboard and the Transom. Use the hardware that was already on the boat to install the bracket and plate. Reinstall the mounting hardware Transom loosely using the Mounting Holes that align with the existing hardware. The hardware should pass through the Outboard, the Talon Adapter Bracket and the Transom of the boat. d. Once the Elbow Bracket and Shim Plate are positioned, tighten and torque the mounting hardware to the boat and/or outboard manufacturer's specifications. Continue to the "Completing the Installation" section of these instructions. Repeat for opposite side to complete installation. 1b Transom Bracket Elbow a. Support the Outboard and remove the hardware that attaches the Jack Plate to the boat Transom. Determine if the Adapter Bracket purchased is installed on the Port or Starboard side. b. Take the Elbow Bracket (Item #2 or Item #4) and the Shim Bracket (Item #10) if needed, and apply marine grade silicon to the transom side mounting holes of both brackets. The Brackets selected will be dependent on a Port or Starboard mount for each individual installation. Jack Plate Port 2 c. Install the Elbow Bracket and Shim Plate between 2c the Jack Plate and the Transom orientated to the Port or Starboard side. Use the hardware that was already on the boat to install the Elbow Bracket and Shim. Reinstall the mounting hardware loosely. The Transom hardware should pass through the Jack Plate, the Talon Mounting Bracket, and the Transom of the boat. d. Once the Elbow Bracket and Shim Bracket are positioned, tighten and torque the mounting hardware to the boat and/or outboard manufacturer's specifications. Continue to the "Completing the Installation" section of these instructions. Determine if the Adapter Bracket purchased is installed on the Port or Starboard side. b. Take the Bracket Elbow (Item #2 or Item #4) and the Shim Plate (Item #10) if needed, and determine the mounting location. The Brackets selected will be dependent on a Port or Starboard mount for each individual installation. 1a Transom Jack Plate Elbow Bracket Port Outboard Spacer Block Kit #1810211 (if needed) Shim Starboard NOTICE: This installation method is NOT compatible with Atlas Jack Plates (all offsets). Installation with Bob's Machine Shop Jack Plates will require Spacer Block Kit #1810211. 2 c. Use the hardware that was already on the boat to install the Elbow Bracket and Shim. Reinstall the mounting hardware loosely. The hardware should pass through the Outboard, the Talon Adapter Bracket and the Jack Plate. 1b Transom d. Once the Elbow Bracket and Shim Bracket are positioned, tighten and torque the mounting hardware to the boat and/or outboard manufacturer's specifications. Completing the Installation 1 ITEM(S) NEEDED #20 x 1 #22 x 2 #24 x 4 #26x 2 #6 x 1 NOTICE: Use the supplied anti-seize on all 1b fasteners to prevent galling of the nut. C-channel a. Take the Arm Bracket (Item #6) and install it to the Elbow Bracket. Use two ½"-13 X 4 ¼" Stainless Steel Bolts (Item #22), four ½" Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Washers (Item #24) and two ½"-13 Nylock Nuts (Item #26). Apply anti-sieze (Item #20). Shim Elbow Bracket NOTICE: When installing the Arm Bracket and the Flag Bracket in the following steps, give consideration to the final position of the Talon. Minn Kota recommends installation so that the Talon can sit as close to the Transom and as high as possible. This will provide the most clearance and the greatest 1c amount of vertical and angular adjustability. For more information on Talon placement, please see the "Installing the Talon" section of the Owner's Manual online at minnkotamotors.com. b. Carefully slide the long C-channel segment of the Arm Bracket over the keyed Column of the Elbow Bracket so the teeth on each piece align to the desired angle. c. Two of the Bolts will be used to secure the Arm Bracket to the Elbow Bracket. Secure each Bolt by placing a washer on each and secure with an additional washer and Nylock Nuts after they pass through the Arm Bracket and Elbow Bracket. NOTICE: The C-channel segments may be indexed to create the desired orientation. The teeth will not allow the joints to index without first separating the components. To index the joints, slide the components apart, index to the proper orientation and then reassemble the joints. Take the Flag Mounting Plate Bracket (Item #8) and slide it into the short C-channel segment of the Arm Bracket. Assemble the Bolts to lock it into position. Use two ½"-13 X 4 ¼" Stainless Steel Bolts (Item #22), four ½" Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Washers (Item #24) and two ½"-13 Nylock Nuts (Item #26). Apply anti-sieze (Item #20). Each Bolt should have a washer placed before sliding into the Arm Bracket and Flag Plate. NOTICE: When properly installed, the Mounting Plate should be nearly parallel to the Transom of the boat. It should also be oriented as close to the Transom as possible to minimize the possibility of water spray. 2d Flag Mounting Plate Bracket Column C-channel Arm Bracket 2e Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Washer Nylock Nut Flag Mounting Plate Bracket Arm Bracket Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Washer Stainless Steel Bolt e. Tighten all hardware to 50 ft-lbs. 3 ITEM(S) NEEDED #12 x 4 #14 x 4 #16 x 4 #18 x 4 #20 x 1 NOTICE: To prevent seizing of the stainless steel hardware, do not use high speed installation tools. Applying an anti-seize may help prevent seizing. f. The Talon Mounting Bracket should be secured to the Flag Mounting Plate Bracket. Remove any hardware that may have previously been used to secure the Mounting Bracket to the Transom. Keep the Bolts and Mounting Straps on the Talon Mounting Bracket in place. g. Take four of the 5/15-18 X 2" Stainless Steel Bolts (Item #12) and four of the 5/16 Flat Washers (Item #14) and place one washer on each bolt. Align the mounting holes on the Talon Bracket with the mounting holes on the Flag Mounting Plate Bracket. Place one bolt in each of the corner mounting holes. h. Secure the Brackets together by taking the four of .750 x .3125 Stainless Steel Washers (Item #16) and place them on the end of the bolts. Place anti-sieze (Item #20) on the hardware and secure each with the four 5/16-18 Nylock Nut (Item #18). Tighten the bolts with a 1/2" Box End or Socket Wrench. Do not over-tighten. 3g Stainless Steel Washer Elbow Bracket Arm Bracket Nylock Nut Flag Mounting Plate Bracket Flat Washer Talon Mounting Bracket Stainless Steel Bolt NOTICE: Be sure to position the heavy duty .750 x .3125 Washers over the slots on the inboard side of the Flag Mounting Plate Bracket. NOTICE: Consider mounting a Talon Tilt Bracket #1810222 for additional adjustability. Take the Talon and notice that there is an Assembly Track located on both sides of the Talon. NOTICE: We recommend a second person to help with this step of the installation. j. Carefully lift the Talon into the Mounting Bracket and align the Mounting Straps with the Assembly Track. Slide the Guard Washers to the inside wall of the Mounting Bracket, so that they sit between it and the Talon Assembly. Slide the Talon Assembly down the Assembly Tracks until it comes in contact with the Vertical Stop Bolt. NOTICE: If the Talon was previously installed, the Water Deflection Shield may need to be removed and reinstalled after the Talon is secure. Refer to the Talon Owners Manual on how to install the shield. Assembly Track Mounting Straps 4j Talon Vertical Stop Bolt Mounting Bracket Assembly Track Talon Assembly Track 4j Talon Mounting Strap Assembly Track Mounting Bracket 5 k. While supporting the Talon, adjust it and the Vertical Stop Bolt up or down in the Mounting Bracket so that the bottom of the Talon is not less Talon Assembly than 4 inches above the Bottom of the hull of the Mounting boat, or the waterline of the boat. Once in place, Bracket temporarily tighten the Vertical Stop Bolt. Vertical Stop Bolt Hex Head Cap Screws l. Double check the placement of the Talon and make 4" Minimum Bottom Edge of Talon sure it meets all of the mounting considerations. Make any adjustments as necessary. When the Hull directly position of the Talon is acceptable, secure the four below Talon Hull Hex Head Cap Screws and Nylock Nuts holding the Mounting Straps in place with a 9/16" Box End or Socket Wrench. Use a torque wrench to tighten to a CAUTION recommended torque of 20 to 30 ft-lbs. Tighten the Vertical Stop Bolt. Check tension of the 4 vertical adjustment nuts after initial use and periodically thereafter to ensure they are at the NOTICE: Additional adjustments may need to be recommended torque of 20 to 30 ft-lbs. made to the mount after a trial run with the boat on the water. Installation complète typique AVIS : Ces étapes d'installation décrivent, en alternance, une installation côté bâbord et une installation côté tribord, et sont présentées à titre de référence seulement. Elles peuvent être différentes de votre installation réelle. Soutenir le moteur hors-bord et retirer la quincaillerie qui retient le moteur au tableau arrière du bateau. Déterminer si le support d'adaptateur acheté est installé du côté bâbord ou du côté tribord. b. Prendre le support coudé (article nº 2 ou article nº 4) et la cale (article nº 10), au besoin, et y appliquer le scellant silicone de qualité marine dans tous les trous de montage du côté du tableau arrière des deux supports. Les supports seront sélectionnés selon le type d'installation effectuée (à bâbord ou à tribord), pour chaque installation individuelle. Bâbord 2 c. Installer le support coudé et la cale entre le moteur 1b hors-bord et le tableau arrière. Utiliser la quincaillerie existante du bateau pour installer le support et la cale. Réinstaller la quincaillerie de fixation de Tableau arrière manière lâche, à l'aide des trous de montage alignés avec la quincaillerie existante. La quincaillerie doit passer à travers le hors-bord, le support d'adaptateur Talon et le tableau arrière du bateau. d. Une fois le support coudé et la cale positionnés, serrer la quincaillerie de montage selon les spécifications du bateau et/ou celles du moteur hors-bord. Passer à la section « Terminer l'installation » de ces instructions. Installer le support coudé et la cale entre le timon et 2c le tableau arrière, en les orientant vers le côté bâbord ou le côté tribord. Utiliser la quincaillerie existante du bateau pour installer le support et la cale. Réinstaller la quincaillerie de montage de manière Tableau arrière lâche. La quincaillerie doit passer à travers le hors- bord, le support d'adaptateur Talon et le tableau arrière du bateau d. Une fois le support coudé et le support de cale Support coudé positionnés, serrer la quincaillerie de montage selon les spécifications du bateau et/ou celles du Timon moteur hors-bord. Enlever les deux boulons de montage d'un côté, et desserrer les boulons de montage du côté opposé. Incliner le moteur hors-bord pour réaliser les étapes d'installation ci-dessous. Pour terminer l'installation, répéter pour le côté opposé. a. Soutenir le moteur hors-bord et retirer la quincaillerie qui retient le hors-bord au timon du bateau. Déterminer si le support d'adaptateur acheté est installé du côté bâbord ou du côté tribord. b. Prendre le support coudé (article nº 2 ou article nº 4) et la cale (article nº 10), au besoin, et déterminer l'emplacement de montage. Prendre le support de stabilisation (article nº 6) et l'installer sur le support coudé de timon. Utiliser deux boulons en acier inoxydable de ½ po (1,27 cm)-13 x 4 ¼ po (10,8 cm) (article nº 22), quatre rondelles en acier inoxydable robustes de ½ po (1,27 cm) (article nº 24) et deux écrous Nylock de ½ po (1,27 cm) x 13 (article nº 26). Appliquer un produit antigrippant (article nº 20). AVIS : Lorsque le support de stabilisation et le support de drapeau sont installés lors des étapes suivantes, tenir compte de la position finale du Talon. Minn Kota recommande d'effectuer l'installation pour que le Talon puisse s'appuyer à proximité du tableau arrière, aussi haut que possible. Cela permettra le dégagement maximal et la plus grande quantité d'ajustabilité verticale et angulaire. Le faire glisser avec précaution le long du segment du canal en C du bras de stabilisation sur la colonne clavée du support coudé de sorte que les dents de chaque pièce soient à l'angle souhaité. c. Deux des boulons seront utilisés pour fixer le support de stabilisation au support coudé. Appliquer un produit antigrippant (article nº 20). Il devrait y avoir une rondelle pour chaque boulon avant de le faire glisser dans le bras de stabilisation et la plaque de drapeau. AVIS : Quand elle est bien installée, la plaque de montage devrait être presque parallèle au tableau arrière du bateau. Appliquer un produit antigrippant peut aider à prévenir le grippage. f. Le support de montage du Talon devrait être fixé au support de plaque de montage de drapeau. Enlever toute quincaillerie qui peut déjà avoir servi à fixer le support de montage au tableau arrière. Garder les boulons et les sangles de montage sur le support de montage du Talon en position. Prendre quatre boulons de 5/15 po (0,8 cm)-18 X 2 po (5,1 cm) (article nº 12) et quatre rondelles plates de 5/16 po (0,8 cm) (article nº 14) et placer une rondelle sur chaque boulon. Aligner les trous de montage du support du Talon avec les trous de montage sur le support de plaque de montage de drapeau. Placer un boulon sur chacun des trous de montage en coin. h. Fixer les supports ensemble en prenant quatre rondelles de 0,750 po (1,905 cm) x 0,3125 po (0,794 cm) (article nº 16) et les mettre à l'extrémité des boulons. Mettre un produit antigrippant (article nº 20) sur la quincaillerie et fixer chacun avec quatre écrous Nylock de 5/16 po (0,794 cm)-18 (article nº 18). Serrer les boulons avec une clé polygonale ou à cliquet de 1/2 po (12,7 mm). Ne pas trop serrer. Boulon en acier inoxydable AVIS : Vous assurer de positionner les rondelles robustes de 0,750 po (1,905 cm) x 0,3125 po (0,79375 cm) sur les fentes côté en-bord du support de plaque de montage de drapeau. AVIS : Considérer installer un support inclinable Talon nº 1810222 pour augmenter l'ajustabilité. Prendre le Talon et remarquer qu'il y a une Talon 4j piste d'assemblage située sur les deux côtés du Talon. Lever avec précaution le Talon dans le support de Piste d'assemblage Piste d'assemblage montage et aligner les sangles de montage avec la piste d'assemblage. Faire glisser les rondelles de Sangles de montage Support de montage sûreté sur la paroi intérieure du support de montage afin qu'elles soient entre le support et l'assemblage du Talon. Faire glisser l'assemblage du Talon vers le bas sur les pistes d'assemblage jusqu'à ce qu'il soit en contact avec le boulon de blocage vertical. NOTICE: Si le Talon a déjà été installé, il se peut que l'écran de déflexion d'eau doive être enlevé et 4j Talon Boulon de blocage vertical Support de montage réinstallé une fois le Talon fixé. Consulter le manuel du propriétaire du Talon pour savoir comment Piste d'assemblage installer l'écran. 5 k. En soutenant le Talon, l'ajuster, ainsi que le boulon de blocage vertical, vers le haut et le bas, dans le Assemblage support de montage afin que le bas du Talon soit à du Talon au moins 4 po (10,2 cm) au-dessus du bas de la coque du bateau, ou de la ligne d'eau du bateau. Support de montage Une fois en place, serrer temporairement le boulon Boulon de blocage vertical Vis à tête creuse hexagonale de blocage vertical. Minimum de 4 po (10,2 cm) Bordure inférieure du Talon l. Revérifier le placement du Talon et s'assurer qu'il respecte les consignes de montage. Faire tout ajustement nécessaire. Lorsque la position du Talon Coque directement sous le Talon Coque est acceptable, fixer les quatre vis à tête creuse hexagonale et les écrous Nylock qui tiennent les sangles de montage avec une clé polygonale ou à ATTENTION cliquet de 9/16 po (14,3 mm). Utiliser une clé à cliquet pour serrer à un couple de serrage de 20 à 30 pi-lb (27 à 40 Nm). Serrer le boulon de blocage vertical. Vérifier la tension des quatre écrous d'ajustement vertical après la première utilisation, et périodiquement après, afin d'assurer qu'ils sont au couple de serrage recommandé de 20 à 30 pi-lb (27 à 40 Nm). AVIS : Des ajustements supplémentaires pourraient être nécessaires au montage après un essai initial avec le bateau sur l'eau. Resserrer périodiquement les quatre vis à 20 à 30 pi-lb (27 à 40 Nm).
