Dishwasher Quick Start Guide
This guide provides essential steps for operating your Amana dishwasher. Please refer to the Owner's Manual for complete details.
Operating Instructions
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS in your appliance's Owner's Manual before operating.
Tip Over Hazard: Do not use dishwasher until completely installed. Do not push down on open door. Doing so can result in serious injury or cuts.
Steps to Operate:
- Prepare and Load the Dishwasher: Refer to Key Usage Tips for loading information. Remove leftover food, bones, toothpicks, and other hard items from dishes. Remove labels from containers before washing. Ensure items do not block the detergent dispenser. Load items with soiled surfaces facing down and inward toward the spray arms. Avoid overlapping items. Place plastics, small plates, and glasses in the upper rack. Wash only items marked "dishwasher safe." Load dishes so they do not touch to avoid noise. Secure lightweight items. Use silverware basket slots or remove covers to separate silverware. Place sharp items pointing down and avoid nesting.
- Add Detergent and Rinse Aid: Use high-quality premeasured tablets or packs for best performance. Add detergent just before starting a cycle. Store detergent tightly closed in a cool, dry place. Your dishwasher is designed to use rinse aid for good drying performance. Rinse aid prevents water from forming spots or streaks and improves drying. Check the rinse aid indicator and add rinse aid when the level is low. Follow dispenser instructions for adding rinse aid. If drying performance is poor, try a higher rinse aid setting.
- Check that All Arms Spin Freely: Ensure items in the rack do not block the spray arms.
- Select a Cycle and Options: Dishwashers run longer to save water and energy. Typical cycle time is approximately 2.5 hours, but can vary. Customize cycles by selecting options. Not all options are available for every cycle.
- Start or Resume a Cycle: If the door is opened (even during a delay), press the Start/Resume button each time. If the button is on the top of the door, close the door firmly within 4 seconds of selecting Start/Resume. If the button is on the front, close the door firmly; the latch engages automatically. Select cycle, options, and then Start/Resume. Run hot water at the nearest sink until hot before starting.
Cycle Guide
This information covers several different models. Your dishwasher may not have all cycles and options described.
- Heavy: For hard-to-clean, heavily soiled pots, pans, casseroles, and regular tableware. Includes heated drying option.
- Normal: Recommended for daily, regular use to completely wash and dry a full load of normally soiled dishes. Government energy certifications are based on this cycle with only the Heat Dry option selected.
- Quick Wash: For fast results, uses slightly more water and energy. Select a heated drying option for improved drying. Note: Some detergents are not recommended for short wash cycles.
Energy Efficiency: Efficient dishwashers run longer to save water and energy. Your first cycle will run longer to calibrate the optical water sensor.
Filtration System
This dishwasher has an advanced filtration system that minimizes sound and optimizes water and cleaning performance. It consists of an upper filter assembly and a lower filter. Ensure filters are properly installed and locked into place.
Detergent Recommendation
The United States and Canada have restricted phosphorus in dishwasher detergents. Major manufacturers have reformulated their detergents. It is recommended to use tablets and packs for convenience and improved performance, as they are proven better at reducing filming on dishes.
