I. Introduction

KYOCERA Net Admin (KNA) was developed over a decade ago and has become difficult to maintain, requiring customizations for updates. Its limited browser and OS support (Internet Explorer being the only supported platform) and inability to add competitive features due to its age are drawbacks. KYOCERA Device Manager (KDM) offers a unified user interface compatible with popular browsers and supports various clients (mobile, tablet, laptop, desktop). KDM is positioned as the most suitable software for managing Kyocera MFPs/Printers for IT administrators, aiming to increase Kyocera product value and contribute to hardware sales. KDM focuses on:

• Toner management (through KDM's Days Remaining feature)
• Applications (through Application installation, activation, and configuration features)
• Device configuration automation (e.g., Schedule and Event triggered configurations)
• Quality improvements (e.g., anonymous data collection)
• Performance improvement

II. Overview

KDM is printing device management and monitoring software that runs as a Windows service application, accessible via web browsers.

System Diagram

A system diagram illustrates an IT administrator connected to a central KDM server, which in turn manages multiple Kyocera devices (MFPs/Printers). KDM provides centralized device management for up to 10,000 devices from a single location.

Key functionalities include:

• Upgrade firmware
• Configure settings
• Install applications
• Receive device alerts
• Check toner levels at a glance

KDM is a web-based application compatible with major browsers like Microsoft Edge and Apple's Safari, and it can operate as a standalone system.

Target User

KDM is primarily targeted at IT administrators at customer sites. Other user types include:

• Service technicians at Sales Companies (SC) or dealers configuring devices at customer locations.
• Warehouse technicians at SC or dealers pre-configuring devices before shipping.
• Developers at SC, dealers, or customers utilizing KDM APIs for custom solutions with ERP, CRM, or SMS systems.

Product Benefits

KDM builds upon Kyocera's device management expertise from KNV, KNA, and KFS products, offering improved upgradability from KNA. It features enhanced usability and appearance through expanded OS and browser support, incorporating user feedback. KDM operations are faster than KNA, with single-device operations being 30% faster and multi-device operations 50% faster. It implements up-to-date IT security features, collects anonymous data for customer needs analysis and business opportunity guidance, and provides predictive analysis for consumables.

III. Important Notification

From version 1.5, the KYOCERA name is not displayed on the main title due to the use of a common utility across all brands. The KYOCERA name is retained in the copyright information.

System Requirements

Prerequisites

• Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 (required for .NET Core and ASP.NET Core installation on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2)

Note: .NET Core and ASP.NET are included in the installer package.

13 languages are supported: English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese Brazil, Spanish International, Polish, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Korean, Dutch, and Turkish.

V. Added features in KDM Ver.2.0

New KYOCERA Branding UI

In KDM 2.0, the User Interface has been updated to align with the latest KYOCERA Branding Guidelines. These changes are aesthetic and do not affect the overall functionality of the application.

Updated .NET Core version to 3.1

Previous KDM versions utilized .NET Core 2.2.6, which is no longer supported by Microsoft. As per company policy, KDM has been updated to use the latest Long Term Support (LTS) version. This update does not affect any features or functions of KDM, but the software prerequisites have been updated.

Supports selecting from previously uploaded packages for firmware upgrade

• Previously, a new firmware package had to be uploaded for each firmware upgrade, even if the same package was used before.
• In KDM 2.0, previously uploaded firmware packages can be selected for firmware upgrades, eliminating the need to re-upload.

Supports firmware upgrade of ELATEC ID card reader

Some newer device models now support remote firmware upgrades for the ELATEC ID card reader via KDM starting from version 2.0. Note that this functionality depends on the specific device model's support.

Add more supported settings in Device settings wizard

In earlier versions, certain settings could only be modified by importing from a file and were not editable directly through the KDM UI. In KDM 2.0, the following settings can now be modified and set via the Device settings wizard:

VI. Added features in KDM Ver.2.1

Expanded scope for log storage to include device alerts, counters, consumables and firmware packages

In previous versions, log storage only included notifications, reports, tasks, and audit logs. Other data, such as device alerts, counters, consumables, and firmware packages, remained in the database indefinitely without deletion. From KDM 2.1, the log storage scope has been expanded to include this data, preventing the database and file system from becoming excessively large or full.
