DocumentDocumentINSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Pro-Ject Amp Box S3 CI Dear music lover, thank you for purchasing a Pro-Ject Audio Systems custom integration amplifier. In order to achieve maximum performance and reliability you should study these instructions for use carefully. Warning of a hazard for the user, the unit or possible misuse. Important notice. Safety instructions AC outlet voltages vary from country to country. Before connecting to the mains, make sure that the voltage in your area meets the voltage requirements printed on the power supply. The power cord is used to disconnect the unit from the mains. Make sure that the power cord is easily accessible at all times. Never handle the device, the power cord/power supply while your hands are wet or damp. Avoid letting liquids enter the device or the power supply. Never place any item containing liquid, such as a flower vase on or near the device. Never spill any liquid on the device or the power supply. Never place any naked flame sources, such as lighted candles on or near the device. The product shall not be used in damp or wet locations, next to a bathtub, sink, swimming pool or any other similar conditions. Connectors Make all connections whilst the amplifier is disconnected from the mains. Take care to connect the left and right channels correctly. The right channel is usually marked red, the left channel black or white. Make sure the polarity of the connection is correct at each end of the cables. Only connect one loudspeaker with an impedance not less than 4 ohms per channel. Never use any other power supply than the one supplied with the unit. Connection to the preamplifier The Input sockets marked Left / Right are for connecting the cables from your pre-amp or AV processor. Signal can be relayed further via RCA output marked Loop. Connection to the speakers The output terminals accept phoenix connectors. A 4-pin phoenix connector for the speaker outputs is included in the packaging. Take care to mount L+/- and R+/- speaker cables wires correctly. + and is usually clearly marked on speaker cables. Mains power connection Connect the low voltage plug from the power supply to the Power DC 20-24V phoenix connectors of the amplifier before connecting the power supply to the mains. A 2-pin phoenix connector for the power supply is included in the packaging. Mount the red PSU cable in the "+" and the black in the "-" connectors. 2 © Pro-Ject Audio Systems · Amp Box S3 CI · Revision 2024.05.27 Trigger The amplifier can be switched on & off via the 12V DC 2,5mm socket marked Trigger In. Cables are available as accessories. The remote power-on signal can be relayed to further units via the Trigger Out socket. Pay attention to the correct polarity of the cable. RS232 on/off or front panel button on/off can override trigger commands. Only connect the remote power cable when the pre- and power amplifier are disconnected from the mains. Failure to observe can result in damage to the circuit. Signal Sensing Use the Sig.Sens. dip switch to turn signal sensing on and off. When turned on, the Amp Box S3 CI turns off automatically when no input signal is detected for 3 seconds (less than 4,4mV over 3 seconds), and automatically powers on as soon as an input signal is detected (threshold of 4,2mV). When Signal Sensing is ON, then turning the unit on or off with the front panel button, RS232 or trigger will not work. Auto Power Set the Auto Pwr dip switch to On to enable the Amp Box S3 CI to be turned on as soon as it receives power from the connected power supply. The power button on the front panel does not need to be pressed anymore to turn the Amp Box S3 CI on. When Auto Power is ON, then turning the unit on or off with the front panel button, RS232 or trigger will not work. Auto Power also overrides signal sensing, the device will always stay on. RS232 RS232 is a widely used control protocol used in custom integration to remotely control and integrate devices into a larger system. Home theatre, public address systems, lobby background music, hotels, .... The RS232 documentation can be downloaded on the product website: https://www.project-audio.com/en/product/amp-box-s3-ci/#downloads Front panel controls To switch on from standby or to standby The push button on the left side of the front panel turns the unit on or back into standby. The blue LED above the stand-by push button shows that the unit is switched on. 3 ©Pro-Ject Audio Systems · Amp Box S3 CI · Revision 2024.05.27 Level Fine tune the amount of gain.
