Introduction
This bulletin provides instructions for installing an additional load barrier for use with E04 series 400-600 A heavy duty safety switches. This accessory is also known as an insulating barrier.

Safety Precautions
⚠️ DANGER: HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK, EXPLOSION, OR ARC FLASH
- Apply appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe electrical work practices (refer to NFPA 70E).
- This equipment must only be installed and serviced by qualified electrical personnel.
- Never operate an energized switch with the door open.
- Turn OFF (?) the switch before removing or installing fuses or making load-side connections.
- Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device at all line and load fuse clips to confirm the switch is de-energized.
- Turn off power supplying the switch before performing any other work on or inside the switch.
- Do not use renewable link fuses in fused switches.
Failure to follow these instructions will result in death or serious injury.
Installation Instructions
Note: The Load Barrier Kit (A) requires that a Line Barrier Kit (B) be previously installed.
- Turn OFF (?) all power supplying the switch and follow lockout/tagout procedures.
- Align mounting holes in the load barrier (A) with the mounting hooks on the line barrier (B) and slide down into place.
Re-energize the Switch
- Close the door.
- Verify that the switch is in the OFF (?) position.
- Turn on power to the equipment in sequence, starting at the source end of the system and working toward the switch.
- Turn the switch to the ON (▶️) position.
Caution
CAUTION: HAZARD OF INJURY OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
Do not force the handle to the ON (▶️) position with the door open. When the door is open, the mechanism interlock prevents the switch blades from closing and the handle from fully rotating. Failure to follow this instruction can result in injury or equipment damage.
