The Bissell 25A3 features:

Cleaning Fluid

Use only genuine BISSELL Fiber Cleansing Formula™ for optimal cleaning and to protect the machine. Non-BISSELL cleaning solutions may harm the machine and void the warranty. Available formulas include:

Assembly

The only tool required for assembly is a Phillips head screwdriver. Four Phillips head screws (2 long, 2 short) are included, taped to the handle assembly.

  1. Slide the handle assembly onto the lower body and secure with two long screws.
  2. Attach the upper hose rack to the back of the handle assembly by pushing into open slots and sliding down until it snaps into place.
  3. Attach the lower hose rack by sliding it onto the lower body assembly and securing with two short screws.
  4. Attach the Tough Stain tool to the end of the hose.
  5. Wrap the flex hose around the hose rack and secure it into the notched out holder.
  6. Keep the flex hose locked in place with the hose secure latch.

WARNING: Do not plug in your cleaner until it is completely assembled and you are familiar with all instructions and operating procedures.

Tip: Deep cleaning carpeting regularly can reduce dust and allergens in your home.

Special Features

Built-In Heater

The ProHeat deep cleaner features a patented built-in heater that warms hot tap water up to 25 degrees hotter, optimizing cleaning effectiveness. The heater will not exceed 180 degrees. The heater switch controls the heater, allowing you to turn it off for delicate wool or oriental rugs.

DirtLifter® PowerBrush

The DirtLifter PowerBrush enhances cleaning performance by lifting dirt and grooming carpet fibers. Its floating suspension self-adjusts to carpet heights. When the power is on and the machine is upright, the brushes are lifted off the carpet for protection.

Ready Tools™ Dial

The Ready Tools feature allows switching between FLOOR CLEANING and TOOLS settings. The TOOLS setting is for above-floor cleaning of upholstery, stairs, and baseboards. Select the appropriate tool for the job and attach it to the flex hose.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or internal component damage, use only BISSELL advanced deep cleaning formulas intended for use with the deep cleaner. Non-BISSELL cleaning solutions may harm the machine and void the warranty. Chemical spot cleaners or solvent-based soil removers should not be used as they may react with plastic materials, causing cracking or pitting.

Scotchgard™ Protector

BISSELL offers deep cleaning formulas with Scotchgard™ protector to restore carpet protection against dirt and tough stains. Using your BISSELL ProHeat machine with BISSELL formulas containing Scotchgard™ protector every 12 months helps maintain your carpet's 5-year limited stain warranty from 3M.

Measuring Cup

A measuring cup for adding the correct amount of formula is built into the lid of the 2-in-1 tank.

2-in-1 Water Tank

The 2-in-1 water tank system has a heavy-duty bladder for clean water. As you clean, the clean water and formula empty from the bladder. Dirty water is collected around the outside of the bladder, keeping clean and dirty water separate. This design allows for maximizing tank space.

Removable Nozzle

The nozzle is removable for easy cleaning by rinsing it in the sink.

Operation

Before You Clean

  1. Plan activities to allow carpet time to dry.
  2. Move furniture if cleaning an entire room (optional).
  3. Vacuum the area with a dry vacuum cleaner before deep cleaning.
  4. Plan your cleaning route to leave an exit path, starting in the corner farthest from your exit.
  5. Pretreating (optional): Recommended for heavily soiled carpet in high traffic areas.

ATTENTION: Some Berber carpets may fuzz with wear. Repeated strokes in the same area with a vacuum or deep cleaner may aggravate this condition.

Fill the 2-in-1 Water Tank

  1. Remove the tank from the base by lifting the tank carry handle.
  2. Carry to the sink. Rotate the handle forward to unlatch the lid. Remove the lid and locate the built-in measuring cup.
  3. Fill formula to the indicated line on the measuring cup and pour into the bladder. For BISSELL 3X Concentrate formulas, add one capful directly into the bladder.
  4. Fill the bladder with clean hot tap water. Do not boil or microwave water.
  5. Replace the top of the tank by matching the lid and tank edges. Ensure the handle is in the forward position to replace the lid. Rotate the handle to the carrying position to latch the lid. Test to ensure the lid is secure.
  6. Place the tank back into the machine base, seating it firmly. Rotate the tank handle back into the latched position.

Carpet Cleaning

  1. Plug the deep cleaner into a proper outlet.
  2. Set the Ready Tools dial to the Floor Cleaning setting.
  3. Turn the power on by pressing the red power switch with your foot. Turn the heater switch to the 'on' position. Allow one minute for the built-in heater to warm up.
  4. NOTE: The ProHeat will be fully warmed and provide optimal performance after a minute of continuous heated cleaning.
  5. Press the gray handle release lever with your foot to detent the handle.
  6. While pressing the spray trigger, make one slow forward wet pass and another back.
  7. Release the spray trigger and make one slow forward and backward pass over the same area to remove residual dirty water and aid drying.
  8. Repeat cleaning passes until the solution being suctioned appears clean. Continue passes without pressing the trigger until no more water is being suctioned.

Tip: Thorough vacuuming before deep cleaning prevents early clogging of the lint trap.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or internal component damage, use only BISSELL cleaning fluids intended for use with the deep cleaner. Non-BISSELL cleaning solutions may harm the machine and void the warranty.

Empty the 2-in-1 Water Tank / Clean Removable Nozzle

  1. Turn the power switch off. Remove the 2-in-1 water tank using the carry handle.
  2. Carry the tank to a utility sink or outside to dispose of the collection water. Remove the top of the tank by rotating the handle forward to unlatch the lid and lifting the lid off.
  3. Empty collection water from the bottom of the tank.
  4. After each use, remove and rinse the lint screen located on the tank lid.
  5. If the nozzle needs cleaning, remove it by grasping the handle at the top and pulling forward. Clean the removable nozzle by rinsing under running water.
  6. When finished, replace the nozzle by slightly raising the front of the machine to line up the slots on the base with the hooks on the nozzle. Attach at the base first, then click the nozzle into place. NOTE: If the nozzle is not attached properly, loss of suction will occur.
  7. To continue carpet cleaning, refer back to pages 10-11.
  8. If cleaning is complete, refer to the "Maintenance and Care" section on page 15.

Ready Tools™

Your ProHeat deep cleaner is equipped with a hose and attachments for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and more.

Important! If using the machine to clean upholstery, check upholstery tags:

Ready Tools™ (continued)

  1. Vacuum thoroughly to pick up loose debris and pet hair, using a vacuum with a brush attachment and a crevice tool for fabric folds and tufts.
  2. To begin cleaning with attachments, follow instructions on pages 10-11 for filling the 2-in-1 water tank and formula tank.
  3. Set the Ready Tools dial to the TOOLS setting to allow spray and suction from the hose.
  4. Attach the cleaning tool of your choice to the end of the hose.
  5. Clean by pressing the trigger to spray solution onto the area. Slowly move the tool back and forth over the soiled surface. Release the trigger to suction dirty water. Continue cleaning in small sections until dirt is removed. Caution: Do Not Overwet.
  6. When finished cleaning, remove and rinse tool(s) in clean, running water.
  7. It is recommended to suction clean water from the tap to rinse out the hose.
  8. Before wrapping the hose onto the tool rack, lift the end of the hose and stretch it out to ensure all water is cleared.
  9. Wrap the flex hose around the tool rack.
  10. Empty the 2-in-1 water tank and rinse, following instructions on page 12.
  11. If the Ready Tools dial becomes difficult to turn, the diverter assembly may need cleaning. To clean, remove the nozzle and locate the screw holding the diverter assembly. Remove the screw with a Phillips screwdriver.
  12. Remove the diverter assembly. Hold under running water, ensuring water flows through and around the dial. Turn the dial about 10 times clockwise and 10 times counter-clockwise to free up debris.
  13. Wipe the diverter assembly with a soft cloth and replace it on the machine. Replace the nozzle.
  14. Return the Ready Tools dial to the FLOOR CLEANING setting.

Hard Floor Cleaning

Your deep cleaner may include a hard floor tool and Hard Floor Solutions Formula for cleaning linoleum, vinyl, and tile floors.

Caution: Do not use on unsealed hardwood floors.

  1. Thoroughly vacuum or sweep the floor to pick up any debris.
  2. NOTE: Before filling with formula and water, ensure all carpet cleaning formula is thoroughly rinsed from the tank.
  3. Fill BISSELL Hard Floor Solutions Formula to the indicated fill line in the measuring cup and pour into the bladder.
  4. Fill the bladder with clean hot tap water.
  5. Attach the hard floor tool to the bottom of the machine by hooking it into the nozzle and swinging it down until it clicks into place.
  6. Ensure the ReadyTools dial is set to FLOOR CLEANING.
  7. Plug into an outlet and turn the power on.
  8. Plan your cleaning route to leave an exit path, allowing adequate time for floors to dry.
  9. While pressing the spray trigger, make one slow forward wet pass and another back. Caution: Do Not Overwet.
  10. Repeat the motion without pressing the trigger, using the hard floor tool to squeegee and suction up dirty water.
  11. When finished, remove the hard floor tool, rinse, and let it dry before storing. Refer to the Maintenance section on page 15 for machine clean up and storage instructions.

Maintenance and Care

Machine Care

  1. Turn the power switch off. Unplug the machine and wrap the power cord.
  2. After emptying the 2-in-1 water tank, rinse it with running hot tap water, cleaning underneath and around the bladder. Clean the red lint screen. Rinse the removable nozzle if necessary.
  3. Replace the 2-in-1 water tank on the machine.
  4. Remove any loose hair or debris from the brush roll.
  5. To clean attachments, remove them from the hose and rinse in clean, running water. Dry before storing. Clean the hose by suctioning clean water from the tap. Before wrapping the hose back on the machine, lift the end and stretch it out to ensure all water is cleared. Refer to page 13, illustrations 11 and 12.
  6. Wipe the machine's exterior with a soft cloth.
  7. After the carpet is dry, vacuum again to remove hair and fuzz.

Machine Storage

Store the unit in a closet or basement in a protected, dry area. Do not store where there is a danger of freezing, as this will damage internal components and void the warranty.
