General Information
The Johnson Controls CSI I/Net subsystem is used in conjunction with the multi-vendor front-end, UNITY™. This subsystem allows the UNITY system to fully integrate the architecture of the CSI I/Net system into the UNITY front-end. When used with other UNITY systems, UNITY pulls together your entire facility's automation, fire/life safety, and security needs under one simple, yet powerful operating environment. UNITY improves overall efficiency by reducing operator training requirements, virtually eliminating dependency on the original equipment manufacturer for support.
Image Description: The accompanying image depicts a typical computer system setup from the era, featuring a CRT monitor, a keyboard, and a system tower, representing the UNITY system hardware.
Subsystem Specific Information
The interface supports all I/Net network configurations with Revision 4.3 or higher firmware. All I/Net Direct Connect and Auto/Answer Auto/Dial TAP configurations are supported. All I/Net DCU and Unitary controller products are supported as well.
Application
The CSI I/Net subsystem functions by providing full protocol level communications via the RS-232 port on the I/Net Host Tap (Model 78010, 78012, 78013, 78015, 78016, 7804). This provides the following benefits:
- Full Alarm Annunciation
- Point Status and Monitoring
- Output Control Capabilities
- Analog and Digital Commands
- Test Mode Commands
- Point Enable and Disable
- Setpoint Adjustments
- Upload and Download of DCU Database
- Full Alarm Acknowledgment Capabilities
- Analog Limit Adjustments
- DCU Synchronization

Network Architecture Overview
The system architecture is depicted in a network diagram illustrating connections via Ethernet LAN and Controller LAN. The Ethernet LAN connects a UNITY Client Workstation, UNITY Server, and Modem to a Host Tap (780xx). The Host Tap then interfaces with the Controller LAN, which connects various DCUs (such as 7700, 7740, 7741, 7716, 7718, 7756 DCU) and CSI controllers (like 7798, 7728). The diagram also shows the integration points for different input devices and door processing units, including Proximity Card Readers, Magnetic Stripe Readers, BioMetrics Readers, and Wiegand Readers, all connected to Door Processing Units.
