Requirements: Radio with "CD", "COMP" "SHUFF" buttons and 20-pin CD port Introduction Many Ford, Lincoln, Mercury owners are adamant about keeping car audio system as stock possible, will be thrilled with the BT3-FORD kit which adds modern Bluetooth features without changing the look and feel of dashboard components. The BT3-FORD features Bluetooth Hands-Free, music streaming and charging for any Smartphone with A2DP and HFP support and allows users to track up/down, pause, increase and decrease volume, answer/end calls and more using the radio and/or steering wheel "SEEK" buttons. The BT3-FORD Bluetooth solution is applicable to select 1995-05 Ford radios with "CD" "COMP" & "SHUFF" buttons on faceplate and 20-pin CD port (See Fig. 4). A direct connection guarantees the best possible sound on car speakers and replaces Ford remote Cd changer (if present). Alert: Remote Cd changer (if present) must be disconnected. The 6-CD changer built-into radio remains functional. Purchase our BTA-FORD (Streaming only) or BTH-FORD (Hands-free and streaming) to retain use of the CD changer. For more details, see Frequently Asked question at the end of this guide. Installation 1. Remove radio to gain access to the connector 2. A Ford radio removal too or similar (See Fig. 1) is required (not included) Fig. 1 3. Insert tools to radio keyholes until locked, then (a) move tools slightly sideways and (b) pull forward as illustrated in Fig. 2 Fig. 2 4. If present, disconnect 20-pin plug from radio (See Fig. 3) 9. Connect microphone right angle plug to module "MIC" input. (See Fig. 7) Wind noise will negatively affect phone audio. Users are advised to install microphone away from wind/ventilation ducts etc. Fig. 3 5. Connect installation harness 20-pin plug (See Fig. 3) to radio 20-pin socket vacated in step 4 Fig. 6 Fig. 4 6. Connect factory 20-pin plug (See Fig. 3) to 20-pin socket on harness (See Fig. 5) Fig. 7 10. Connect installation harness 16-pin plug (See Fig. 8) to module 16-pin connector (See Fig. 9) Fig. 5 7. Secure microphone to headliner or visor using included clip (See Fig. 6) 8. Route microphone cable (10 ft. long) down side pillar, under steering Fig, 8 column and into radio cavity, Fig. 9 11. Tap/splice install harness RED wire to 12V Accessory (switched) supply. We recommend GREEN/PURPLE wire on radio harness (See Fig. 10) Optional USB extension cable installation Note: 1. Optional 6 ft. USB dash mount extension cable is not required for operation, however it extends USB charging port (See Fig. 12) to dashboard, glovebox etc. 2. The USB port (See Fig. 12), supports charging and software updates only 1. Drill a ¾" hole to dash or panel using a step drill bit or equivalent (See Fig. 10) As an alternate, use the included bracket (See Fig. 14a) to mount USB without drilling. Fig. 10 2. Snap header (See Fig. 13) to surface until flush (See Fig.14) Fig. 13 Pairing module Pairing varies among devices but basic steps are the same. This process is done upon initial install and will not have to be repeated 1. Turn Ignition and radio "ON" 2. On A2DP device: Go to Settings, Wireless & Networks, Bluetooth Settings 3. Toggle on Bluetooth to enable it. 4. Wait for search results to appear on the list of available devices 5. Tap on the name (See Fig. 15) to connect to it. 6. Once connected, (DisCarSt) should show up as "Connected" in the list of devices under Bluetooth settings. Turn ignition to ACC and radio "ON" 2. Press the "CD" button to enter Cd changer (Bluetooth) mode. See Fig. 16 Fig. 16 3. Launch music streaming application 4. To skip tracks: Tap the "SEEK UP" or "SEEK DOWN" buttons on radio or steering wheel (See Fig.17) Frequent ask questions & troubleshooting 1. What's the difference between BT3-FORD and BT6-FORD? In addition to Bluetooth hands-free, music streaming, charging; the BT6-FORD support AUX input and media card. 2. Does the BT3-FORD work on all Ford radios? NO; works only on Ford, Lincoln, Mercury 20-pin Cd controlling radios (non-Cd changer controlling radios are not supported). Ford Cd changer controlling radios in addition to a "CD" will also have "COMP" & "SHUFF" buttons on faceplate. (See Fig. 19) Fig. 17 5. Place test phone call or ask someone to call. Alert: Ensure radio is in "Cd changer" mode otherwise press "Cd" button 6. To accept, tap "SEEK DOWN" on radio or steering wheel (See Fig. 18) 7. To reject, tap "SEEK UP" on radio or steering wheel (See Fig. 18) Fig. 18 8. Adjust call volume with radio VOL knob or steering wheel control. 9. If correct operation is confirmed go ahead and reinstall radio. Warning: Playlist, Artist, caller ID etc. is *NOT* displayed on Ford radio Notes: Adding additional load to electrical system in older vehicles can result in alternator whine or similar noise. We recommend purchasing and installing this noise filter Fig. 19 3. Can I control Smartphone from radio buttons? YES; use radio seek buttons to change tracks and to accept/reject phone call. 4. Can I pair or save more than one device to the BT3-FORD? YES; supports more than one device, but only pair to one device at a time. 5. What happens if I receive a call while streaming? Streaming will mute, press SEEK button to accept call. To end call press, SEEK button. Streaming resumes. (radio must be in Cd changer/Bluetooth mode) 6. Can I connect module to the Cd changer plug in trunk/hatch? NO; Trunk/hatch location is not ideal for connecting this Hands-free kit in addition, the plug at the CD changer is different (12-pins) 7. Pressing "Cd" button on radio does not switch radio to (Cd) Bluetooth mode. What can I do to resolve? If vehicle battery is ever disconnected; you will need to disconnect 8-pin module plug from radio for 2-3 seconds. Doing so will re-initialize module after which the "CD" "CHGR" button should function. 8. How good is streaming sound quality? Sound quality is very good and without static or interference provided vehicles electrical systems are up to standard. 9. Can I use the BT3-FORD to make/receive phone calls? YES; the BT3-FORD supports Hands-free calls as well as audio streaming (A2DP) 10. My Ford has a remote Cd changer, will It still work? Unfortunately the BT3-FORD replaces the remote Cd changer; however, our BTH-FORD Bluetooth module requires and retains the remote Cd changer. Click here for details. 11. I'm experimenting annoying engine noise (alternator whine that increases with engine speed) Is there a fix for this? First, ensure battery terminals are clean verify ground wire is connected to the radio chassis or a known good ground lead. If that fails, consider installing our in-line noise filter (See Fig. 20).
