Before First Use
The Juiceman Jr. comes mostly assembled. Before first use, disassemble and wash removable parts in warm water with a biodegradable, non-abrasive liquid detergent to remove manufacturing dust or residue.
Your Juicer may have a protective cardboard insert between the Feed Tube and Cutter Blade. Remove this and any other protective packaging.
CAUTION: Never rinse or immerse the Motor Base in water or any other liquid.
Refer to the Fresh Juice Recipes & Menu Planner for additional recipes and tips.
- Ensure the Blade Basket is securely seated and the Pulp Basket is at the rear to catch pulp. Line the Pulp Basket with a plastic produce bag for easier cleaning.
- Place a glass underneath the Juice Spout.
- Read assembly and disassembly directions. The Juicer will not turn on unless properly assembled.
Preparing Fruits and Vegetables
- Clean all produce thoroughly with a natural bristle brush. Use a biodegradable cleaner for non-organic produce to remove pesticide residue.
- Remove outer leaves of non-organic produce and peel waxed fruits/vegetables.
- Trim away discolored or bruised sections.
- Leave skin on most produce (including pineapple and melons), except oranges, grapefruit, and tangerines, as their oils can be bitter.
- Remove melon seeds and pits from fruits like cherries, pears, and peaches when possible.
- Cut produce into pieces small enough to fit the Feed Tube. Use the Food Pusher to guide produce. NEVER PUSH PRODUCE INTO THE FEED TUBE WITH YOUR FINGERS.
- Bunch leafy greens, parsley, wheat grass, and sprouts into a small ball and push through with a carrot or the Food Pusher.
- Bananas are not suitable for juicing as they can clog the micro-mesh screen. Firm produce like apricots, plums, pears, peaches, and tomatoes yield best results.
Using the Juiceman Jr.
To Turn Your Juiceman Jr. ON:
- Ensure the Juicer is completely and properly assembled (See ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS).
- Remove the Food Pusher from the Feed Tube.
- Press the ON/OFF Switch up to the ON position.
- Place produce into the Feed Tube and gently direct it through the Feed Tube and Blade Basket using the Food Pusher.
- Tip: Try alternating types of produce for maximum efficiency.
To Turn Your Juiceman Jr. OFF:
- Press the ON/OFF Switch down to the OFF position.
- Unplug the Juicer from the outlet when not in use.
Disassembly Instructions
ALWAYS MAKE SURE JUICER IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE STARTING DISASSEMBLY.
- Remove the Clamps by bracing thumbs on the top or middle of each clamp and pulling out the bottom. Let clamps hang from the sides by their lower hinges.
- Lift the Juicer Cover up and off the Juicer.
- Lift off the Juice Bowl and Blade Basket as one piece. These pieces can then be separated for cleaning. Follow CLEANING YOUR JUICER section for specific instructions.
CAUTION: Handle Blade Basket with care due to sharp points.
Assembly Instructions
ALWAYS MAKE SURE JUICER IS UNPLUGGED BEFORE STARTING ASSEMBLY.
- Place the Juice Bowl on top of the Motor Base. The Juice Spout fits over the front. Two tabs on the underside of the Juice Bowl should rest in the complimentary slots on top of the Motor Base, located by each Clamp.
- Set the Blade Basket on the Motor Hub in the center of the Juice Bowl and press down on the outer rim until it feels snug.
- Gently rotate the Blade Basket to ensure it turns freely. If it did not seat initially, this action should place it correctly. Double-check by pressing down and spinning again.
- Place the Juicer Cover over the Juice Bowl with the large pulp ejection opening towards the back. Swing the Clamps upward.
- Place the tops of the Clamps onto the respective slots on the Juicer Cover, leaving the Clamp Hinges resting out. Press the bottom of the Clamps in until they snap snugly into place.
- Place the Pulp Basket behind the Juicer, under the Pulp Spout (located on the back of the Juicer Cover).
Cleaning Your Juicer
- Unplug from outlet before assembling, removing parts, or cleaning.
- Do not immerse the Motor Base in water or spray it with water. Clean by wiping with a damp sponge, cloth, or paper towel. Use liquid dishwashing detergent, but avoid products with ammonia or scouring powders, as they can dull or scratch the plastic surface.
- All parts (except the Motor Base) are washable in warm, soapy water. Follow DISASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS. For the Juicer Cover and Juice Bowl, a fruit and vegetable brush with natural fibers is recommended. DO NOT USE A METAL BRUSH OR PAD.
- When cleaning the Blade Basket, use a brush to ensure tiny holes are not clogged. Hold the basket under running water while brushing inside and out.
- The Juice Bowl, Juicer Cover, and Blade Basket may be washed in a dishwasher (top shelf only). Daily washing with ordinary warm tap water is usually sufficient.
- Sponge off the Motor Base and legs if juice spills underneath. Use a damp toothbrush or cloth to clean the Motor Hub.
- Juicer should be air-dried only.
- For staining properties of carotenoids (e.g., from carrots), soak stained parts overnight in one of these solutions:
- Biodegradable soap in warm water.
- 1/4 cup bleach in a sink full of warm water.
- 1 part warm water to 1 part cider vinegar.
- 1/2 small box baking soda in enough warm water.
- Never use ammonia or abrasives.
- After soaking, lightly scrub with a soft bristle brush and liquid detergent.
- NEVER SUBMERGE THE MOTOR BASE IN WATER OR OTHER LIQUID!
After cleaning and reassembly, the Juicer is ready. Before starting, ensure the Blade Basket is seated and the Pulp Basket is in place. Pulp can be used in various applications like breads, muffins, cakes, etc. Refer to the Fresh Juice Recipes & Menu Planner for more ideas. Unplug unit and allow to cool. Clean following manual procedures.
Storage
Unplug unit and clean before storing. Store in its box in a clean, dry place. Never store while hot or plugged in. Wrap the cord around the feet. Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance. Do not stress the cord where it enters the unit, as this can cause it to fray and break.
Troubleshooting
Symptom: Pulp builds up excessively in the back of the Juicer Cover.
Possible Correction: Try juicing slower, as wet produce causes buildup. To release pulp, tap the side of the Cover. Empty Pulp Basket if full.
Symptom: Bottom of Feed Tube is damaged.
Possible Correction: Blade Basket may not have been seated correctly, causing it to unseat during use. Check gear teeth of Blade Basket and Motor Base for damage. Call Consumer Service at (800) 233-9054 if damaged.
Symptom: Blade Basket is difficult to insert onto or remove from the Hub.
Possible Correction: Snug seating is desirable. To insert, try a different Hub position. To remove, turn Juice Bowl clockwise.
Symptom: Too much pulp builds up on Blade Basket.
Possible Correction: This may be due to produce texture/moisture. Stop juicing, scrape off pulp, and begin again, alternating produce types.
Symptom: Excessive noise or vibrations occur after Juicer is turned on.
Possible Correction: Pulp may have built up on the Blade Basket. Clean the Blade Basket and try alternating produce types. A small amount of noise/vibration is normal due to the powerful motor.
Symptom: Juice sprays out of the Spout.
Possible Correction: Juice produce as slowly as possible. Keep the Pulp Basket emptied for good air flow.
Symptom: Juice leaks between Juice Bowl and Cover.
Possible Correction: Juice slowly so the Blade Basket does not fill too quickly. Keep Pulp Basket emptied for good air flow.
Symptom: Pulp in juice.
Possible Correction: Juice slowly to avoid excessive pulp buildup inside the Cover and Juice Bowl.
Symptom: Inside rim of Juice Bowl is worn or chipped.
Possible Correction: Improper fit between Blade Basket and Hub can cause rubbing. Call Consumer Service at (800) 233-9054.
Symptom: Wet pulp.
Possible Correction: Certain produce (pineapples, overripe produce) may cause buildup. Fruit tends to produce wetter pulp than vegetables. Rinse Blade Basket if problem persists.
Symptom: Juicer stopped while juicing.
Possible Correction: Try a different wall outlet. Let the Juicer sit for an hour; moisture may have collected on the circuit board. If unresolved, call Consumer Service at (800) 233-9054.
Symptom: Juicer does not turn ON.
Possible Correction: Try a different wall outlet. Check that the Cover, Blade Basket, and Juice Bowl are properly seated and Locking Clamps are engaged for the Interlock Switch.
