Philips Occuswitch Movement Detector

Models: LRM1070/00 (Basic), LRM1080/00 (Advanced)

General Description

The Occuswitch is a movement detector with a built-in switch designed to save up to 30% of electrical energy by switching off lights in unoccupied rooms or areas. It can handle loads up to 6 A and cover an office area of approximately 20m². The unit features a detachable mains connector for straightforward installation and ceiling mounting. A separate Wieland cable (LCC1070) is available for quick and trouble-free installation.

Occuswitch Family:

Applications

The Occuswitch is ideal for offices, toilets, storage rooms, and similar environments. It is optimized for recessed ceiling mounting at heights between 2.5 and 3.5 meters. A surface box accessory allows for surface mounting, accommodating recessed wiring or surface-mounted ducts. The advanced Occuswitch (LRM1080) supports parallel connection of up to 10 units to cover larger areas, such as open-plan offices, and can be used with different mains groups or phases.

[Compliance Marks: CE and KEMA logos indicating adherence to relevant standards.]

Detection Patterns and Operation

The detection pattern varies by movement type: 4 by 5 meters for small movements (e.g., desk work) and 6 by 8 meters for larger movements (e.g., walking).

Functions (Both Versions)

Automatic Control

Lights switch on automatically when presence is detected and switch off 1 to 30 minutes after the area is vacated.

Daylight Override

This function prevents the lights from switching on when sufficient daylight is available, contributing to energy savings. It is enabled by adjusting the light level dial from the OFF position.

Daylight Switching

When active, this function automatically switches lights off if sufficient daylight is present. Lights will turn back on when the ambient light level drops below the required threshold. To enable, set the relevant DIP switch to ON and adjust the light level.

Functions (Advanced Version - LRM1080)

Parallel Operation

Up to 10 Occuswitches can be connected in parallel using a separate bus signal. When any unit detects movement, all connected units switch on the lights. The bus signal is fully isolated, allowing use with any mains group or phase, and supporting multiple mains groups for easier wiring.

Local Override

Allows manual override of the automatic operation using a remote control, for instance, to switch off lights during occupancy.

Absence Mode

When a remote control is used, this mode disables automatic switch-on when people enter the detection area. The lights will still switch off automatically after the area is vacated.

Features (Both Versions)

Smart Timer

The smart timer extends the delay time by 10 minutes if movement is detected shortly after the lights have switched off, assuming the area is still in use but with minimal activity.

Shield

A retractable shield is included, which can be used to block detection in specific areas, such as adjacent corridors.

Features (Advanced Version - LRM1080)

Remote Tool (IRT8099)

The IRT8099 commissioning tool enables adjustment of light level settings and power-up behavior without direct physical access to the Occuswitch. It can set the unit to start detection 30 seconds after power-up instead of switching on immediately.

Fixing and Mounting

The Occuswitch can be mounted in two ways: recessed into the ceiling or surface mounted using the dedicated ceiling box (LRH1070). The ceiling box provides breakout ports for cable ducts and a central breakout piece. When selecting a location, avoid obvious cold spots to prevent condensation.

Electrical Installation

Installation can be performed using conventional wiring or Wieland connectors, for which the LCC1070 cable is required. The unit features a detachable mains connector for simplified installation. The mains connection is protected by a retractable cover and secured with a tie rap.

[Diagram: Wieland connector installation using the LCC1070 cable.]

Parallel Operation Wiring

Parallel operation is used to expand coverage. Standard parallel installation is limited to 6A total load and one mains group. The advanced LRM1080 uses a bus signal for occupancy indication, supporting up to 6A per unit and multiple mains groups or phases, though a slight delay in switch-off between units may occur.

Daylight Control Functions

Daylight Override

Prevents automatic light activation when sufficient daylight is present. Enabled by setting the light level dial from the OFF position. Disabled by turning the dial to OFF.

[Diagram: Shows the dial for enabling daylight override and switching, with settings like '+ = off'.]

Daylight Switching

Automatically switches lights off when sufficient daylight is available. Lights turn on again when the level drops below the required threshold. Enabled via DIP switch (ON position) and light level setting. Lights switch off if the level exceeds 220% for over 15 minutes. Lights switch on when daylight reaches at least 120% of the required level.

Note: Optimal performance requires matching the required light level to the installed light level. The Occuswitch may adjust the switch-off level if the required level is set too low. This function can repeat its cycle upon reconnection to mains power.

Calibration

The required light level can be adjusted by turning the calibration dial.

[Diagram: Calibration dial shown.]

Local Control (LRM1080) and Absence Mode

Local Control (LRM1080)

The advanced Occuswitch (LRM1080) responds to Philips Lighting remote controls, such as the IRT8050 (wall-mounted) and IRT8010 (handheld). It typically responds to channel 1 (on/off) codes, group A, and general codes. The IRT8099 tool allows for changing the group address to differentiate between units and transmitters. Remote control operation must occur within the detection area.

[Diagram: Images of IRT8010 and IRT8050 remote controls.]

Absence Mode

In absence mode, lights do not switch on automatically. A remote control is required to activate them. Lights switch off 1 to 30 minutes after the area is vacated. This mode is activated by setting the appropriate DIP switch.

[Diagram: Shows DIP switch settings for enabling absence mode, including 'Auto on' and 'IR on' options.]

IRT8099 Commissioning Tool (LRM1080)

The IRT8099 commissioning tool provides advanced configuration options for the LRM1080 Occuswitch.

Set Required Light Level

Ensure adequate light is available and no daylight is present. Aim the IRT8099 at the Occuswitch and press the "save" button. The lights will flash once to confirm the setting.

Change IR Group

Occuswitch and transmitters can operate in 7 different groups. Select the desired group (A-G) on the IRT8099, aim at the Occuswitch, and press the green transmit button. Lights flash once to confirm.

Change Power-up Behaviour

By default, the Occuswitch turns lights on at power-up. This can be changed to disable immediate switch-on, starting detection 30 seconds after power-up. Select "power up on/off" on the IRT8099, choose "on" or "off", aim at the Occuswitch, and press the green transmit button. Lights flash once to confirm.

Restore Defaults

To reset settings to factory defaults, aim the IRT8099 at the Occuswitch and press the "basics" button.

Note: The IRT8099 sends power-on and IR group settings together. Pressing "basics" first clears previous settings.
