Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Ensure that anyone using this product is aware of normal safety precautions for household electric appliances. 3 REMOTE (COOL FOCUS MODELS) Cooling Fan Sleeping Timer ON/OFF Temperature AUTO Automatic air flow speed HI High speed MED Medium speed LO Low speed C AUTO FUNC TIMER SLEEP AUTO HIGH MED LOW POWER MICROCLIMATE TEMPERATURE SETTING The thermostat turns off the compressor if the temperature of the air returning to the air conditioner is below the set temperature. Press to increase or to reduce the set temperature. If the room temperature is lower than the set temperature, the compressor will stop. The temperature of the cool air is dependent on the environment temperature and humidiity, usually 8 to 14 degrees less than the ambient temperature. SLEEP KEY When this key is pressed, the air flow of the unit changes into sleep mode (low speed). 1) Press "SLEEP" to set sleep function. Press again to cancel sleep function. 2) The temperature will increase by 0.5°C after half an hour and 2°C after 2 hours. 3) When you turn off the unit, the sleep function will be cancelled automatically. TIMER KEY TIMER OFF: The timer is used to turn off the unit automatically after the setting time is over. 1) Press the "TIMER" key to set the number of hours of desired operating time. 2) Once the set time has come to an end, the unit will turn off automatically. 3) Press the "POWER" key before the time out, the setting time will be cancelled and the unit will turn off. AUTO KEY Automatic fan speed. When the ambient temperature is 2 or more degrees higher than the set room temperature, the unit will run at high fan speed. it will automatically switch to medium and low when the ambient temperature gets closer to the set temperature. 4 SETUP 1) After removing the air conditioner from the box, place in an upright position. IMPORTANT Always keep your air conditioner upright. It may have been stored or transported on it's side or laid flat by mistake, so please stand it upright for at least 12 hours before plugging it into power and turning it on. Failing to do so may damage the unit. 2) Remove the cable from the drawer at the back of the unit and insert the plug into a wall outlet. Make sure you push the drawer fully back in so it is flush with the back of the unit. The unit will make a "beep" noise when plugged into power. 3) Open the warm air deflector fully. This will turn on the unit and the compressor will start. 4) Open the cold air deflector and allow 2 minutes for the air coming out to feel cold. Use the remote control to adjust fan speed. Keep the temperature setting at 17°C unless the air flow feels too cold. 5) Keep a door or window open so fresh air circulates unless it is extremely hot or windy outside. 6) Avoid using a fan nearby as it can disrupt Close Comfort's gentle air flow. 7) The focus enhancer extends the range of cooling and, after fitting the serparate transparent deflector flap, enables a higher angle of air flow. Note: The focus enhancer comes pre-installed on all COOL FOCUS models and is an optional accessory for EASY FOCUS models. Position your air conditioner close enough for comfort. The ideal range of distance is 1.5 - 3 meters. Arange the angle of the cold air deflector so cool air flows around face and shoulders. Drape a curtain as shown to For a small room, place exclude light when sleeping. the unit near an open window or doorway. Use the optional Igloo tent for a more intense cooling effect and insect protection. We recommend using the Igloo tent for sleeping if indoor temperature is consistently over 27-29°C . For sleeping, arrange your unit about 15cm from the end of the bed. Both the cold air deflector and focus enhancer can be adjusted to the desired angle so the cool air flows over you. It also works with larger beds for two people. 5 WARNING LIGHTS POWER LIGHT (GREEN) The power light will come on as soon as the unit is turned on (by opening the rear flap, or pressing the Power button on the remote). When the green light is flashing, the compressor is not on however the fan should still be running. After about 1-2 minutes, the compressor will start cooling and the green light should be constantly on. SYMPTOM 1 GREEN LIGHT IS NOT ON WHEN TRYING TO TURN ON THE UNIT 1) Check to see if the power supply is properly connected and on. The unit will make a "beep" sound when plugged in to power. If needed, try a different power supply. 2) Check to see if the cable drawer is inserted properly and flush with the body of the unit. If it is, check if the tip is broken (located at the back of the drawer and protrudes) if this is the case, contact us to receive a replacement tank SYMPTOM 2 GREEN LIGHT CONTINUOUSLY FLASHING, BUT UNIT IS NOT COOLING 1) If the flashing pattern is continuously on and off and the fan is running, press the `FUNC' button on the remote and switch to cooling, and change the temperature to 17°C. Wait 1-2 minutes for the green light to display without flashing and start cooling. 2) If the green light flashes repeatedly but the fan is not running, this may be due to the A/C's surge protection mode or an unstable power supply. Turn off the unit using the remote and close the rear flap. Unplug the unit and wait for 5 minutes. When reconnecting to the power supply, a "beep" sound will be heard. 3) If the problem still continues to persist, this may indicate a fault. Contact us for a warranty replacement. WATER DROP (WHITE) Normally this light should not display. If it does, either; 1) Cable drawer contains water carefully remove the tank and empty the water 2) Broken float tip we will send out a replacement tank under warranty SNOWFLAKE (BLUE) Normally this light should not display. If it does it can be due to the ambient temperature being too cool for the unit. Close comfort is designed to be used in a temperature over 17°C although a certain combination of cold temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure can lead to frosting. SYMPTOM 1 BLUE LIGHT IS ON, FAN RUNNING If the temperature is above 17°C, let the unit run cooling as per normal, the fan will help to defrost the compressor. 6 SYMPTOM 2 BLUE LIGHT IS ON, FAN NOT RUNNING Contact us as the unit may need to be replaced or repaired under warranty. Another reason the snowflake warning light may display is if there is excessive clogging in the front filter or if the inlet is blocked by an object, such as the over hanging bed cover fabric or a cloth. THERMOMETER (RED) Normally this light should not display. If it does it can be due to the unit overheating. Close comfort can be used in an ambient temperature up to 43 degrees. SYMPTOM 1 RED LIGHT ON, FAN IS RUNNING If the temperature is under 43°, let the fan run and it will start cooling automatically once the compressor is cooled. Make sure to operate in an indoor or shaded outdoor environment. SYMPTOM 2 RED LIGHT ON, FAN NOT RUNNING Check if the water tank is inserted properly and the tip is not broken TROUBLESHOOTING FAN RUNS BUT THERE IS NO COOLING SYMPTOM - Green light is flashing, fan is running but there is no cooling, and compressor does not start CURE - Press FUNC to make the snowflake symbol appear and lower the thermostat temperature. This is due to the thermostat setting being higher than room temperature or function is set to "fan" instead of "cooling". We recommend keeping it set to 17°C and on "cooling" at all times. FAILS TO START SYMPTOM 1 - Air conditioner does not start, green light flashes 6 times, then pauses and repeats CURE - Disconnect the power - either switch off the power point or remove the power lead for 5 minutes. To avoid the problem, when you have finished using your close comfort AC, siwtch it off with the remote control before closing the warm air cover SYMPTOM 2 - Green power warning light flashes, air conditioner does not start 7 CURE - Remove the Cable drawer and insert back in correctly or empty water collected. If water has accumulated, this may indicate a fault as it will gernerally not fill with water unless in the most humid conditions. Wait 10-15 minutes and restart the air conditioner. ROOM SEEMS TO WARM UP SYMPTOM - The room gets warmer with Close Comfort running. CURE - As you become used to the cool microclimate that Close Comfort provides for you, the other parts of the room may seem to be warmer. There may be a slight increase in temperature by a few degrees only in the area behind the warm air deflector, but this wont be significant enough to heat up the room. Keep a door or window open (this is a healthy option in any case) and position the rear section of the unit to face the open window or door so warm air can flow out. Unlike normal room air conditioners, Close Comfort works just as well with open doors/win dows and fresh air circulating. GRADUAL LOSS OF COOLING SYMPTOM - Air conditioner loses it's cooling effect gradually over time. CURE - Clean the top, front and rear filters by removing them and rinsing under running water. Household dust can accumulate on the filters over time and this can gradually reduce the air flow, reducing the apparent cooling. DEHUMIDIFICATION Close Comfort can provide cooled and dehumidified air for personal comfort in hot and humid weather conditions. As part of the refrigeration process, water condensation sometimes occurs while the air conditioner is working. To collect the condensed water, slide out the cable drawer and remove the rubber bung. This will allow the condensated water to collect in the drawer and when full, the unit will automatically switch off. Drain the water and replace the bung after the air conditioner has drained completely. The cable drawer can store up to 2.6 litres of condensed water. 8 FOCUS ENHANCER The focus enhancer enables you to adjust the cooling effect of your Close Comfort unit, and remains in place even when the cold air deflector is closed. There are two simple parts to the focus enhancer: The TRANSPARENT DEFLECTOR FLAP that works to elevate the direction of the air flow The adjustable BLUE NOZZLE that extends the cool air throw INSTALLATION To attach the focus enhancer, first remove the grill that comes with the unit. Ensuring that the filter sponge is still in place, attach the focus enhancer in the place of the existing grille. It should snap into place. If it does not, ensure it is inserted with the correct orientation. The nozzle should be facing inward as shown in the diagrams. For a higher angle of air flow: Attach the transparent flap to the end of the cool air deflector. Make sure the straight edge is facing you and the notches are fitted to the air deflector. To remove, simply pull the flap off. 9 10 PUSH THE NOZZLE DOWN TO FEEL COOLER: For higher air speed and increased distance of cooling, push the the nozzle as shown above. The cold air deflector can be closed with the focus enhancer nozzle attached in this position. Pull the nozzle upright to reduce the air flow speed when using the Igloo bed tent, or when gentle air flow is preferred. Ensure the nozzle is lowered back down before attempting to close the cold air deflector. TIPS Adjust the angle of the cold air deflector to ensure that cool air flows past face and neck Turn off fans when using Close Comfort as drafts from nearby windows and fans may disrupt the focus enhancer's air jet. Pull the focus enhancer nozzle upright for use with the bed tent. If the focus enhancer nozzle is in the down position, the cool air at the bottom of the tent will mix with the warm air at the top. In humid weather, it is normal for moisture to condense on parts of the focus enhancer. FILTER MAINTENANCE We recommend inspecting at least the return air filter once every two weeks. Once there is a noticeable amount of dust, clean all three filters by rinsing them under. running water. In dusty locations, consider arranging for an air conditioning technician to clean the inside before the summer season.
