Important Safety Precautions
- Read all instructions before use.
- DO NOT touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- DO NOT immerse the power cord or appliance in water or any other liquid to protect against electrical hazards.
- Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children. Ensure children do not play with the appliance.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless supervised by a responsible person.
- Unplug from the wall outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before attaching or removing parts and before cleaning.
- DO NOT operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance has been damaged. Return the appliance to Salton for examination, repair, or adjustment. Refer to the 'Warranty' section.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended may pose risks.
- DO NOT use this appliance outdoors.
- DO NOT let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- DO NOT place the appliance on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a hot oven.
- Extreme caution must be exercised when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids.
- Always attach the cord to the appliance before plugging it into the wall outlet.
- Before plugging or unplugging the appliance, turn the temperature control to the 'off' position.
- When using oil-based fondue, the fork is extremely hot when removing it from the oil. Avoid eating directly from the fork that has just been removed from hot oil.
- Ensure the handles are securely attached to the pot.
- For oil-based fondues, do not fill the pot with more than 6 1/3 cups (1500 ml) of oil.
- Use the appliance only on heat-resistant surfaces.
- DO NOT use more than eight fondue forks when the fondue is oil-based.
- This appliance is intended for domestic use only. Do not use the appliance for any purpose other than its intended use.
- Never leave the appliance unattended when it is in operation.
- Always place the appliance on a heat-resistant surface.
Cord with Safety Release
The safety release cord attaches to the appliance via a magnetic connector. This connector detaches from the appliance if accidentally pulled. DO NOT let the cord hang over the edge of the counter. DO NOT use this appliance with an extension cord. The magnetic connector inserts into the appliance's socket in only one direction. Always insert the cord's magnetic connector into the appliance's socket before plugging the cord into the wall outlet. To turn off the appliance, always remove the cord from the wall outlet first.
If the cord becomes detached from the appliance during use, it is important to:
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Turn the switch to the 'off' position.
- Reconnect the cord to the appliance.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Turn the on/off switch to 'on'.
If the magnetic cord is damaged in any way, contact Salton at the address provided in this brochure for a replacement cord. DO NOT attempt to permanently attach the cord to the appliance. Do not use any other cord with this appliance.
Parts Description
The diagram shows the Salton electric fondue set. Key components are labeled:
- 1. Base: The heating element and control unit.
- 2. Fondue Pot: The removable stainless steel bowl for cooking.
- 3. Fork Holder: A ring that fits onto the pot to hold fondue forks.
- 4. 8 Forks: Forks with colored tips for guests to use.
- 5. Temperature Control Knob: Dial to adjust heat settings.
- 6. 'Off' Position: The setting to turn the appliance off.
Before First Use
- Read the instructions carefully and keep them for future reference.
- Remove all packaging and labels.
- Wash the fondue pot, fork holder, and forks in warm, soapy water to remove any manufacturing residue. DO NOT immerse the base in water or any other liquid. NEVER use metal objects, scouring pads, or abrasive cleaners on the cooking surface. REMARK: NEVER IMMERSE THE BASE OR POWER CORD IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.
- Wipe dry with a soft cloth.
- Wipe the base with a damp cloth.
- Condition the cooking surface with a light coat of vegetable oil. Wipe off excess oil.
How to Use
- Place the base on a flat, heat-resistant surface, near a 120-volt wall outlet.
- Attach the power cord to the base and plug the cord into the wall outlet. Ensure the temperature control is set to the 'off' position.
- Place the fondue pot on the base.
- Set the temperature according to the recipe and place the contents in the pot on the base. The red indicator light will illuminate.
- Install the fork holder onto the pot.
- Heat the liquid until the desired temperature is reached.
- Guests cook their food using the provided forks, resting them on the holder.
- Once the meal is finished, turn the temperature control to the 'off' position, unplug the cord, and detach it from the appliance.
- Allow the appliance to cool completely before handling or cleaning.
REMARK: To avoid damaging the non-stick surface, use plastic, nylon, or wooden utensils to stir ingredients.
Practical Tips
- Never eat directly from a fork that has just been removed from hot oil or broth, as the fork can be extremely hot.
- DO NOT move the fork back and forth when food is immersed in hot oil, broth, or cheese. This could damage the pot's cooking surface.
- The pot filled with hot ingredients should be moved with great care.
- Splattering may occur when cooking with oil. Ensure the pot is completely dry before filling it with oil.
- For oil cooking, do not use more than 1500 ml (6 1/3 cups) of vegetable oil. Do not use butter, margarine, lard, olive oil, or shortening. Never add water or other liquids to the oil.
- DO NOT cover the pot while the oil is heating or during cooking.
- Before cooking food in oil, pat it dry with paper towels to remove ice crystals or excess water.
Cleaning and Maintenance
- Ensure the appliance is completely cool before handling and cleaning.
- Wipe the power cord with a damp cloth. NEVER IMMERSE THE CORD IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.
- Remove the fork holder and lift the pot from the base. Wash them in warm, soapy water. Wipe dry thoroughly.
- Wash the forks in warm, soapy water.
- Do not use scouring pads or scouring powders.
- Wipe the base with a damp cloth.
Recipes
Cheese Fondue
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) Gruyère cheese
- 1 lb (450 g) Emmenthal cheese
- 2 cups (500 ml) dry white wine (not Chardonnay)
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/4 cup (65 ml) Kirsch (optional)
- Ground pepper to taste
- Ground nutmeg to taste
- Crusty bread cut into cubes
Rub the inside of the pot with the garlic clove. Set the temperature to 'MAX'. Pour the wine into the pot and heat for 6 to 10 minutes. Gradually add the cheeses, stirring until a smooth consistency is achieved. When all the cheese has melted, add the Kirsch, pepper, and nutmeg. Using a fork, each guest turns a piece of bread in the cheese. Throughout the meal, gradually reduce the heat. REMARK: The cheese should simmer, never boil.
Serve with a dry white wine.
Chinese Fondue
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) beef filet, cut into thin strips
- 1 lb (450 g) pork filet, cut into thin strips
- 4 cups (1 L) chicken broth
- 1 branch celery, cut lengthwise
- 1 clove garlic
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- 1 tsp (5 ml) five-spice powder
- Salt to taste
- Soy Sauce
Set the temperature to 'MAX'. Pour the chicken broth into the pot along with 3 tbsp (45 ml) of Soy Sauce. Add the garlic clove, onion, celery, five-spice powder, and salt. Heat for 5 minutes, reduce heat slightly, and simmer for 10 minutes. Using a fork, each guest dips the meat into the hot broth and cooks it for 1 to 2 minutes. The meat can be served with rice, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, pickles, and pickled onions.
Serve with a white or rosé wine, or simply with tea.
Bourguignonne Fondue
Ingredients:
- 4 cups (1 L) vegetable oil
- 1/2 lb (225 g) beef filet per person, cut into 3/4" (2 cm) cubes
Set the temperature to 'MAX'. Pour the oil into the pot and heat for 15 minutes. Using a fork, each guest cooks a cube of beef in the hot oil for 1 to 2 minutes.
Serve with a red wine and a variety of sauces (recipes follow).
Chocolate Fondue
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450 g) dark chocolate
- 1 cup (250 ml) half-and-half cream
- 1 cup (250 ml) heavy cream
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) cognac (or other preferred liqueur)
- Fresh fruit pieces: pears, bananas, apples, peaches, apricots, pineapple, prunes
Set the temperature to a low setting, and heat the creams for about 2 minutes. Add the chocolate in small pieces and let it melt for 10 minutes, stirring until a smooth consistency is achieved. Then add the cognac. Using a fork, each guest dips one or two pieces of fruit into the chocolate.
Serve with small sweet cakes, gingerbread, cake, almonds, hazelnuts, etc.
Sauces
Sauce au Raifort (Horseradish Sauce)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (250 ml) sour cream
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) prepared horseradish
- 2 tsp (10 ml) lemon juice
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Refrigerate for at least one hour before serving.
Trempette au Beurre et aux Herbes (Herb Butter Dip)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (250 ml) melted butter
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) dried herbs
- A few drops of Tabasco
Mix all ingredients well.
Mayonnaise au Citron (Lemon Mayonnaise)
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) mayonnaise
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) lemon juice
- 3 tbsp (45 ml) water
- 1/3 cup (85 ml) green onion tops
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Mix all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Sauce épicée aux Arachides (Spicy Peanut Sauce)
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (250 ml) smooth peanut butter
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) hot water
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) Soy Sauce
- 1 tsp (5 ml) ground cumin
- 1/4 tsp (1 ml) cayenne pepper
- 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) curry powder
- 1 tsp (5 ml) lemon juice
Mix all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Cover and set aside for a few hours to allow flavors to meld. To adjust consistency, increase or decrease the amount of water. For a less spicy sauce, decrease the amount of cayenne pepper.
Sauce au Miel et à la Moutarde (Honey Mustard Sauce)
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup (190 ml) strong mustard
- 1/3 cup (85 ml) honey
Mix the mustard and honey together well.

The only acceptable proof of purchase is the original receipt.
Salton Appliances (1985) Corp. warrants that this appliance should be free from defects in composition and workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of purchase. During this warranty period, defective products will be repaired or replaced, or a refund will be issued, at the sole discretion of Salton Appliances (1985) Corp. Any refund to the purchaser will be based on the product's value and the remaining warranty period. All liability is limited to the purchase price. This warranty applies to normal use and does not apply to damage incurred during transit or resulting from product modification. The warranty does not cover damage caused by accident, abuse, negligence, commercial use, or improper maintenance. It does not cover broken glass. This warranty is not available to retailers or other commercial enterprises.
This warranty does not cover shipping costs, which are assumed by the customer.
