BFT Phobos BT A25 / Phobos BT A40 Piston Automations for Swing Gates
Installation Manual
Product Overview
Electromechanical operators designed for automating residential-type swing gates. The gearmotor ensures the gate remains locked when closed and open, without the need for an electric lock for leaves up to 3 meters long. Features an electronic torque limiter and is controlled by an electronic control panel with torque setting. End-of-stroke operation is managed by two magnetic limit devices. The system includes an obstacle detection system compliant with EN12453 and EN12445 standards.
Optional accessories include the BT BAT buffer battery kit for operation during short power outages.

Installation Instructions
General Safety: Comply with all warnings and instructions. Installation must be carried out by qualified personnel. Ensure structural changes create safety gaps and protect against hazards. Check product for damage before installation. Ensure temperature compatibility with the installation site. Do not install in explosive atmospheres. Disconnect electricity before working on the system. Ensure correct power supply ratings and safety devices (residual current circuit breaker, overcurrent protection). Ensure proper earthing of all metal parts. Use safety devices meeting EN 12978 and EN 12453 standards. Impact forces can be reduced by using deformable edges. Apply all necessary safety devices (photocells, safety edges) and warning signs.
Wiring: Use appropriate cables for mains power supply (e.g., H05VV-F) with correct cross-sectional area. Use at least 0.5 mm² for auxiliary equipment. Secure wires with additional fastening near terminals. Ensure earth wire is connected correctly and is the last to be pulled taut. Keep low voltage wires physically separate from low voltage wires.
Checking and Maintenance: Ensure all components are securely fastened. Check starting/stopping operations and logic. For sliding gates, check rack and pinion mesh, track cleanliness, and wheel condition. For cantilever gates, check for dipping or swinging. For swing gates, ensure axis of rotation is vertical. For barriers, decompress springs before opening. Check all safety devices and anti-crush settings. Ensure emergency operation functions correctly. Check electrical connections and cabling. Clean photocell optics during maintenance. Activate emergency release when the system is out of service. Replace damaged power cords with manufacturer-approved parts. For "D" type devices, perform maintenance at least every six months. Repeat maintenance at least yearly.
Scrapping: Dispose of materials according to regulations. Do not mix with household waste.
Dismantling: Cut off power, disconnect electrical system, remove actuator and all components. Replace any damaged parts.
Declaration of Conformity: Available at www.bft.it in the product section.
Important Notes: Only use original spare parts. Do not modify components without authorization. Instruct users on residual risks and manual operation. Dispose of packaging materials properly.
Specific Installation Steps:
- Tube Arrangement (Fig. A): Install electrical system according to relevant standards (CEI 64-8, IEC 364, HD 384).
- Installation Diagram (Fig. B): Refer to tables for pillar fastening distances (Fig. B Rif. 2-3). Select "a" and "b" based on gate opening angle. Ensure minimal difference between "a" and "b" for smooth operation. Tables are based on specific gate thicknesses. Check for possible collisions.
- Pillar Fastenings (Fig. C): Fasten fittings to the pillar.
- Power Cable (Fig. D): Use H 05 RN-F type cable or equivalent with specified temperature ratings. Check wiring and motor connections if the motor vibrates but does not rotate. Swap motor start connections if the leaf moves in the wrong direction. The first command after a power outage should be OPEN STOP LEAVES.
- Attaching Motor to Pillar Fastening (Fig. E): Secure the motor to the pillar fastening.
- Maximum Tilt (Fig. F): Observe maximum tilt limits.
- Correct Installation (Fig. G): Maintain a rod stroke margin of approximately 5-10 mm. Ensure the front bracket slots face upwards.
- Fastening Fittings to Leaf (Fig. H): Fit the front bracket with slots facing up. Align front and rear brackets.
- Operator Attachment on Door (Fig. I): Attach the operator to the door leaf.
- Closing Limit Device Adjustment (Fig. J): Adjust the closing limit device, ensuring screw A is tightened while wire B is kept tight.
- Opening Limit Device Adjustment (Fig. K): Adjust the opening limit device.
- Dimensions (Fig. L): Refer to diagrams for dimensions.
- Tips for Special Installations (Fig. M, N, O): Create recesses for the operator. Adjust dimensions as needed for different models and pillar configurations.
- Leaf Stops at Ground Level (Fig. P): Use leaf stops to prevent the actuator rod from reaching its end of travel during opening and closing.
- Manual Opening (Fig. Y): Refer to the user guide for manual opening procedures.
- Electric Lock: For leaves longer than 3m, a solenoid latch is indispensable. An optional board is required for electric lock connection.
Emergency Operation (Fig. Y)
Without Electric Lock: Turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF. Release the mechanism. The gate can be manually operated. Maximum rotation is 180 degrees.
With Electric Lock: Turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF. Release the mechanism using the key. The gate can be manually operated. Maximum rotation is 180 degrees.
