Precautions Regarding Connection and Installation
- Do not place where steam or water may splash, or place containers with liquids on the unit. If water droplets or liquid enter the unit, it may cause fire or electric shock. Do not use in humid places like bathrooms. Do not place near cooking surfaces or humidifiers. Do not expose to rain or snow. Do not place vases, cups, cosmetics, candles, etc., on the unit.
Precautions for Use
- Do not use for long periods with distorted sound. Amplifiers and speakers may overheat, causing fire.
- Do not use at high volume for long periods. When using this unit, be careful not to turn up the volume too high. Prolonged use at a volume that irritates the ears may significantly impair hearing.
Caution
Precautions Regarding Connection and Installation
- Do not install in unstable or vibrating locations. Do not place on unstable or vibrating stands. The unit may fall or tip over, causing injury. When mounting the unit to a wall, pay attention to the wall material and stud locations. (Screw retention strength varies greatly, so consult your retailer.)
- Do not place heavy objects over 10kg or large objects protruding from the frame on the unit. Balance may be lost, causing the unit to fall or tip over, resulting in injury. Also, do not sit on or hang from the unit.
- Be careful with wiring cords. Depending on where the cords are routed, they may cause tripping or falling accidents.
Precautions for Use
- Be careful with volume. Sudden loud sounds may damage speakers or cause hearing impairment. If you start with the volume too high, sudden loud sounds may hurt your ears. Gradually increase the volume.
- Keep away from magnetic products like cash cards and floppy disks. Magnetic effects may render cash cards or floppy disks unusable, or cause data loss.
Precautions During Movement
- Do not move the unit with other objects on it. Do not move the unit with other equipment on it. It may fall or tip over, causing injury. Do not move by holding the grille or speaker unit.
About Cleaning the Unit
Occasionally wipe the surface of this unit with a soft cloth. For heavy dirt, dampen a soft cloth with diluted neutral detergent, wring it out firmly, wipe off the dirt, then finish with a dry soft cloth. Do not use hard cloths, thinners, alcohol, or volatile substances. If using chemical cloths, follow the precautions attached to them. If the speaker grille is dusty, dust can be removed by vacuuming or brushing.

Names of Parts
The Onkyo D-058M speaker system consists of the following main components:
- Tweeter: The smaller, upper speaker driver responsible for high-frequency sounds.
- Woofer: The larger, lower speaker driver responsible for low-frequency sounds.
- Grille Attachment Holder: Points on the cabinet where the grille pins insert.
- Grille (Sarannetto): A removable protective mesh cover for the speaker drivers.
- Cabinet: The enclosure housing the speaker components.
How to Connect
Before Connecting Speakers
Prepare the included speaker cords:
- Remove the vinyl cover from the end of the speaker cord.
- Twist the core wires to prevent fraying.
Connection Method to Speaker Terminals
The connection process involves:
- Press the lever on the speaker terminal.
- Insert the twisted core wire into the exposed hole.
- Release the lever to secure the wire.
Important Notes:
- The shape of the left and right speakers is identical. Sound quality remains consistent regardless of whether a speaker is used for the right or left channel.
- Connect the speaker's positive (⊕) terminal to the amplifier's positive (⊕) terminal, and the speaker's negative (⊖) terminal to the amplifier's negative (⊖) terminal. The speaker cord with the red line should be connected to the positive (⊕) side.
- Incorrectly connecting positive and negative, or left and right channels, may result in unnatural sound. Please exercise caution.
- To prevent amplifier malfunction, never allow the positive and negative core wires of the speaker cord, or the L (left) and R (right) wires, to touch each other.
Using Cork Spacers and Wall Mount Holes
Using the Included Cork Spacers
To enhance sound quality, Onkyo recommends using the included cork spacers. These spacers also provide stable installation by preventing the speakers from slipping. The cork spacers should be attached to the bottom surface of the D-058M speaker.
How to Use Wall Mount Holes
The D-058M unit can be mounted on a wall using the dedicated holes located on its rear. For stable wall installation, attach the included cork spacers to the positions indicated in the diagram (typically near the wall mount holes).
Caution for Wall Mounting
When mounting to a wall, pay close attention to the wall's strength. Screw retention strength varies significantly depending on the wall material and the location of studs. Use screws with a head diameter of 10mm or less and a thread diameter of 4mm or less. It is recommended to use screws that are as thick and long as possible for secure mounting. For optimal safety, Onkyo advises consulting a professional installer.
For Fixing with Commercially Available Stands or Brackets
To accommodate commercially available stands or brackets, the D-058M speaker features one M5 screw hole on the rear and two M5 screw holes with a 60mm pitch on the bottom. For specific mounting instructions, please refer to the documentation provided with your chosen stand or bracket. When using stands or brackets, consider their thickness and use screws with an effective thread length of 5-8mm for proper engagement.
Attaching/Detaching the Grille
The front grille of the D-058M can be removed. Follow these steps to attach or detach the grille:
- Hold the edge of the grille, pull it gently forward, and detach that edge.
- Similarly, pull the other edge of the grille forward, and the grille will detach completely from the main unit.
- To attach, align the pins at the four corners of the grille with the grille attachment holders on the main unit and push them firmly into place.
Handling
About Cleaning
Occasionally wipe the surface of this unit with a soft, dry cloth.
If there is a magnetic source nearby, the interaction with this unit may cause color unevenness on the TV, so be careful with placement.
Caution for TV Proximity
When placed near a TV, electromagnetic waves from the TV may cause noise from the speakers even if the audio equipment is turned off. If this noise is bothersome, move the speakers further away from the TV.
Proximity Use with TVs and PCs
Generally, CRT TVs and PCs are delicate and affected by geomagnetism, so placing ordinary speakers nearby may cause color unevenness or distortion on the screen.
This unit is designed with magnetic shielding in compliance with JEITA technical standards, allowing for proximity use with TVs, etc. However, depending on the installation method, color unevenness may occur. In such cases, turn off the TV's power once, and turn it back on after 15-30 minutes. The TV's self-demagnetizing function should improve the screen's appearance. If color unevenness persists, move the speakers further away from the TV. Also, if there are magnets or other magnetic sources nearby, the interaction with this unit may cause color unevenness on the TV, so be careful with placement.
Precautions for Handling
This unit is suitable for normal music playback, but if the following special signals are applied, there is a risk of burnout or disconnection due to excessive current. Please exercise caution:
- Noise when the FM tuner is not receiving correctly.
- High frequency components from oscillators or electronic instruments.
- Special signal sounds from audio check CDs, etc.
- Howling during microphone use.
- Sound when fast-forwarding a tape recorder.
- When the amplifier is oscillating.
- Shock noise when inserting or removing connection terminals like pin cords.
