Product Maintenance
Oiling Shredder:
All cross-cut shredders require oil for peak performance. Failure to oil may result in diminished sheet capacity, increased noise, and eventual shutdown. It is recommended to oil the shredder each time the waste bin is emptied.
Oiling Procedure (Repeat Twice):
- Open the lid.
- Carefully apply shredder oil across the cutters. Do not get oil in the paper tray. (Note: Only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container, such as Fellowes 35250).
- Close the lid. Press and hold the Forward button (▶️) for 2-3 seconds.
Cleaning Auto-Start Infrared Sensors:
Paper detection sensors are designed for maintenance-free operation. However, paper dust can sometimes block these sensors, causing the motor to run even when no paper is present. The sensors are located in the center of the paper entry.
To Clean the Sensors:
- Turn off and unplug the shredder.
- Open the lid.
- Locate the Auto-start infrared sensor in the center of the paper entry.
- Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol.
- Using the cotton swab, wipe away any contamination from the paper sensors.
Troubleshooting
- Overheat Indicator: If illuminated, the shredder has exceeded its maximum operating temperature and needs to cool down. The indicator will remain lit, and the shredder will not operate until it has cooled.
- Remove Paper Indicator: If illuminated, press the Reverse button (◀️◀️), open the lid, and remove the paper jam.
- Bin Full Indicator: If illuminated, the waste bin is full and needs to be emptied. Use Fellowes waste bags (e.g., 36053).
- Bin Open Indicator: If illuminated, the shredder will not run. Close the bin properly to resume shredding.
- Misaligned Paper: If paper is not shredding correctly through the auto feed tray, check the position of the paper. Paper should be flat and aligned with the front of the paper tray.
* Shredder will not run when the lid is open.
