AVT 1996 Bedlight - Night-Light Controller Kit with Motion Detector

Model: AVT 1996

Assembly Difficulty

Product Overview

A motion-sensing timer switch with flexible configurable operating parameters. It acts as an automatically switched night-light and is designed for use with LED strips. Detection of movement in a room with poor lighting conditions triggers a timer circuit, seamlessly brightening the LED light source attached to the output. After the time set by the potentiometer has elapsed, it is smoothly and slowly extinguished.

Specifications

Circuit Description

This controller is an ideal solution for bedrooms or children's rooms. When paired with an LED strip mounted under the bed (bedlight), it facilitates nighttime movement and enhances a sense of security. The lighting activates upon entering the room or touching the floor. The gently brightening light is designed not to disturb others, making it suitable for children getting up at night or for caregivers. The circuit operates between the power source and the LED receiver, requiring a 12V DC supply (battery or power supply) with sufficient current capacity. The D1 diode protects against incorrect polarity. Input voltage is stabilized by IC1 (78L05) with filtering provided by capacitors C1-C4. The ATTINY25 microcontroller (IC2) manages the circuit's operation. A photoresistor (PH1) serves as a twilight sensor, ensuring the light only activates in low-light conditions. The HC-SR501 PIR motion sensor, with a range of up to 7m and a 100-degree viewing angle, detects movement. A jumper on the PIR sensor allows configuration: the "H" position keeps the output active while motion is detected, while the "L" position maintains activation for a preset time after motion ceases, with a ~3-second reactivation delay. The motion detector's range is adjustable from approximately 3m to 7m via a potentiometer. A second potentiometer sets the activation duration from approximately 15 seconds to 8 minutes. Each new motion detection resets the timer. An LED indicates motion detection.

Figure 1 Description: Schematic diagram illustrating the controller's circuit layout. Key components include a D1 diode for polarity protection, IC1 (78L05) voltage stabilizer, C1-C4 capacitors for filtering, IC2 (ATTINY25) microcontroller, PH1 photoresistor for light sensing, HC-SR501 PIR motion sensor, PR1 potentiometer for timer adjustment, and a T1 IRL3705 transistor acting as the output switch. The diagram shows the interconnections between the power source, control logic, and the LED output.

Mounting and Start-up

The unit is designed to be mounted on a 33x65mm PCB. Assembly should begin with soldering smaller components like resistors, followed by larger components such as sockets, electrolytic capacitors, the transistor, screw terminals, and the PIR module. Components marked with a [polarity warning] require careful attention to their orientation.

Figure 2 Description: Diagram showing the arrangement of components on the 33x65mm PCB. This visual guide indicates the placement of each part on the circuit board for correct assembly.

Once assembled, the system is ready for use after appropriate configuration.

Connection Example

Figure 3 Description: An example connection diagram illustrating how to connect the controller module to a 12V DC power source and the LED load. It specifies the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals for the 12V input and the output terminals for the LED strip. Correct polarity for the power supply is essential.

Connect the 12V DC power supply to the 'IN' terminals, observing correct polarity. Connect the LED strip to the 'OUT' terminals.
