8. Instructions For Use

Applying Brakes (For Models with Hand Brake)

Aspire Seat Walkers feature ultra-soft touch brakes. Very little force is required to engage the brake lock. Always use the seat walker handles, not the brake levers, to support body weight. Ultra-soft touch brake levers are not designed for supporting body weight, which may cause damage.

  1. Pull the hand brake up towards the palm of your hand, creating a fist.
  2. Push the hand brake down gently until it locks. This can be done with as little as 2.5kg of pressure.
  3. To release the brake, push the hand piece back towards the grip.
Diagram showing brake lever operation: pulling up to engage, pushing down to lock, pushing back to release.

[Warning]

The rollator must not be driven or pushed with force when the parking brakes are on or when the wheels are partly locked using the brakes. This indicates incorrect use and can cause wear and tear, impairing tyre and brake quality.

Sitting on the Walking Frame (For Models with Hand Brakes)

  1. Ensure the hand brakes have been pushed down until an audible click noise has been heard. This function can also be confirmed visually as the brake handle will remain pushed down.
  2. While holding on to the handles (not the brake levers), turn with your back facing the seat and pull the seat walker towards you until it can be felt against the back of your legs.
  3. Slowly and carefully lower yourself on to the seat.

[Warning]

Always sit centrally on the seat walker, avoid leaning heavily to either side as this may cause the seat walker to become unstable.

[Warning]

NEVER propel yourself with your feet using the seat walker as a transportation device – it is NOT designed for this purpose.

[Warning]

NEVER allow another person to push you along in the seat walker whilst seated, as it is NOT designed as a transportation device or to serve as a substitute for a wheelchair.

For Tri-Wheel Models

[Warning]

This model of walker is NOT designed for seating, as its only purpose is to assist user mobility.

Correct Seating Guide

[Warning]

The Backrest is intended to provide back support while seated. The Backrest is NOT intended to support full body weight.

[Warning]

Avoid reaching or leaning outside the walker frame and base of support. To ensure the upright stability of the walker, never reach/lean for objects as this changes the centre of mass and may cause the walker to tip over in the direction of reaching/leaning or cause damage to the walker frame. This warning relates to reaching/leaning in any direction outside the perimeter of the walker.

[Warning]

Seat Walkers are not designed or safe to be used as standing aids from chairs or beds.

NOTE: Walker shown is for illustrative purposes only, and may differ from model supplied.

Folding and Storage

  1. Lift up the padded seat.
  2. Pull on the handle in the under-seat bag; this will cause the A-Frame section to fold.
  3. Pull up the padded backrest – or alternatively, this can be removed using the push buttons on either end of the backrest.
Diagram showing the folding process: lifting seat, pulling handle, and detaching backrest.

[Warning]

After unfolding or assembling the walker, always ensure that the seat is securely locked and the frame does not move anymore.

[Warning]

Failure to follow these warnings can result in personal injury. Ensure that the seat is securely locked and the frame does not move anymore.

9. Brake Adjustment

1. A tension adjustment nut is located at the point where the brake cable inserts into the brake handle. There is also a tension adjustment at the other end of the brake cable where it inserts into the brake mechanism near the rear wheel.

These adjustment nuts can be used to tighten the cable (if brakes are loose or not working normally) or loosen if brakes are too tight and not allowing the rear wheels to roll freely.

2. Brakes are adjusted to the optimal tension during manufacturing and should not require adjustment when new. Over time, as rear wheels wear and reduce in diameter, brakes can become loose and may need to be tightened.

Diagram showing brake cable tension adjustment points.

[Warning]

You should always engage the brakes when you don't want the walker to move.

[Warning]

NEVER leave the walker without the brakes engaged when there is someone sitting in it.

[Warning]

NEVER leave the walker on a slope without the brakes engaged.

[Warning]

The rollator must not be driven or pushed with force when the parking brakes are on or when the wheels are partly locked using the brakes. This indicates incorrect use and can cause wear and tear, impairing tyres and brake quality.

10. Adjusting Handle Height

  1. Undo hand wheel.
  2. Reposition handle to appropriate height.
  3. Reinsert hand wheel and tighten.
Diagram showing handle height adjustment steps.

For XL Model:

  1. Undo hand wheel from nut and reposition handle to appropriate height.
  2. Reinsert hand wheel, add washer and nut, then tighten.
