Important Safeguards

How does your Pinguino work

Optimum comfort is achieved at around 24°C and 50% relative humidity. The air conditioner removes moisture and heat from the room. Portable units can be moved between rooms or buildings.

Hot air from the room passes through a coil cooled by refrigerant gas, removing excess heat and moisture before being discharged back into the room. In single unit models, a small amount of air cools the refrigerant gas, and the hot, moist air is discharged outside.

Setting up

Air Conditioning without Installation (for Instant Temporary Usage)

  1. Fix the exhaust hose 26 to the coupling 10 on the back of the unit (Figure A).
  2. Fix the window attachment 27 to the end of the hose 26.
  3. Place the unit near a window, French window, or door.
  4. Open the window, French window, or door slightly and place the window attachment 27 as shown in Figure B.
  5. For double casement windows, use the suckers 28 to hold the window halves together (Figure C).

For optimum results (Sash Window):

  1. Place the bracket 31 on the window sill.
  2. Extend the bracket fully within the window frame.
  3. Fix the bracket by turning the wing nut and lower the window onto the bracket.
  4. Insert the window attachment 27 of the exhaust hose 26 into the slot.
  5. Connect the hose to the air conditioner (Figure C1).

The wing nut allows the window bracket to be used for sliding windows as well. Position the bracket's hole to allow correct installation of the exhaust hose.

Air Conditioning with Installation (for Semi-Permanent Installation)

  1. Fit the flange 25 to the hole.
  2. Fix the hose 26 to the coupling on the back of the unit (Figure A).
  3. Attach the end of the hose 26 to the flange 25 (Figure E).

To install, make a hole in an outside wall or through a window glass. Check height and dimensions in Figure D.

When the hose 26 is not attached, close the hole with the bung on the flange 25.

NOTE: When installed semi-permanently, leave a door slightly open (approx. 1 cm) for adequate air exchange.

Preparation for Use

How to Use the Air Conditioner with Water

The air conditioners can use air and water to cool the condenser. Filling the tank 6 with water increases cooling power and reduces noise and energy consumption. Water is expelled as vapor through the exhaust hose 26.

A) Opening the Front Panel:

Grip the front panel 3 on both sides and pull it towards you and upwards. Lift the tank 6 forward to remove it.

B) Filling the Tank:

Turn the tank upside down, remove the plug, remove the extendible tube, and fill the tank while it is on the ground.

C) Replacing the Tank:

After filling, replace the extendible tube, replace the cap, and screw it in tightly. Return the tank to its place with the 'FRONT' label clearly visible. Carefully hold the panel in the center and lower it to its closed position.

A slight gurgling sound during water operation is normal.

In High Humidity Conditions:

Water extracted from the air is used to cool the condenser. Excess water may build up in the internal tank and can be drained by removing the bung from the drain hose 11.

IMPORTANT: If room temperature is 32°C or over, the air conditioner must be operated with water in the tank.

Turning On and Setting the Timer

Electrical Connection

The manufacturer is not liable for damages due to failure to follow safety procedures. Power cable replacement must be done by qualified personnel.

Setting the Timer (if supplied)

Set the programmer/timer 16 to the exact time. Turn the dial clockwise until the desired hour aligns with the pointer.

N.B.: Never turn the dial counter-clockwise.

The timer functions when the plug is connected to the power supply. If the plug is disconnected or there is a power failure, the timer must be reset.

Programmed Mode

  1. Set operating times by pushing out the notches on the dial (each notch represents 15 minutes).
  2. Press the TIMER key 15; the signal light 17 will illuminate.
  3. Ensure the timer indicates the correct time.
  4. Select the desired function as shown in the chart (overleaf).

N.B.: To override programmed times, press the ON/OFF key 15 (the timer signal light will go out).

Selecting Functions

Air Conditioning Functions

  1. Press the ON/OFF button 14 (signal light 13 illuminates).
  2. Rotate the function selector dial 22 counter-clockwise.
  3. Maximum Fan Speed: Align the large star symbol with the reference mark. Signal light 24 illuminates, followed by 18 after 3 minutes.
  4. Minimum Fan Speed: Align the small star symbol with the reference mark. Signal light 24 illuminates, followed by 19 after 3 minutes.
  5. Set the required temperature by rotating the room thermostat dial 23.

Note on Thermostat: The temperature is not expressed in degrees. Turn the dial to the maximum position. Slowly turn clockwise until a click is heard. Signal lights 24 and 18 (or 19) will turn off. The temperature will be regulated and maintained, saving energy. The air conditioning function may temporarily interrupt to maintain the set temperature.

Delay on Start Up

Ventilation/Filtration

  1. Rotate the function selector 22 clockwise.
  2. Press the ON/OFF button 14 (signal light 13 illuminates).
  3. Maximum Fan Speed: Align the large symbol with the reference mark. Signal light 21 illuminates.
  4. Minimum Fan Speed: Align the small symbol with the reference mark. Signal light 20 illuminates.

Purification Filter

This filter captures particles and impurities down to 0.003 mm, including cigarette smoke. It should not be used with the dust filter.

Recommendations

Maintenance

Cleaning the Appliance

Clean with a slightly damp cloth and dry with a dry cloth. Do not wash the air conditioner with water.

Precautions: Never clean with benzene, alcohol, or solvents. Never spray liquid insecticide.

Cleaning the Filters

Dust Filter:

Clean the dust filter every two weeks to maintain effectiveness.

  1. Remove the aspiration grill 8 (Figure F).
  2. Detach the filter holder housing from the external grill by pressing the wings (Figure G).
  3. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust. If very dirty, rinse thoroughly in warm water (under 40°C). Dry before re-inserting.
Purification Filter:

Clean the external side of the purification filter weekly with a vacuum cleaner at an intermediate power level. Never clean the inside. Replace the purification filter at the end of each season or when it is no longer effective. The dust filter can be used instead.

Cleaning the Reservoir 5

Clean at least once a month:

Start of Season Checks

Check the power cable, socket, and earth installation. Follow installation instructions.

Recommended Operations at the End of the Season

  1. Perform descaling procedures (see page 13).
  2. Remove water from the collection reservoir 5.
  3. Operate the appliance in ventilation only mode for about half an hour to dry the inside.
  4. Turn off and unplug the appliance.
  5. Remove the drainage hose 26.
  6. Clean and dry the filter thoroughly before replacing it.
  7. Cover the appliance to prevent dust buildup.

Descaling

When scale deposits become excessive (approx. 400 hours of operation) or at least once a season, decalcify the appliance.

You need:

Procedure:

  1. Remove the tank 6 and drain water from the collection reservoir 5 using the drainage hose 11 (Figure H).
  2. Close the drainage hose 11. Pour 250 ml of decalcifying liquid and 1 litre of clean water into the collection reservoir 5 (Figure I).
  3. Operate the air conditioner for about half an hour.
  4. Drain the liquid from the collection reservoir and rinse thoroughly. Keep the drainage hose open during rinsing.
  5. Unplug the appliance and thoroughly clean the collection reservoir with a clean cloth.
  6. The air conditioner can now be used normally.

If traces of suds are seen in the water after cleaning, this is normal. If there are a lot of suds, rinse again thoroughly. Request additional decalcifying liquid from De'Longhi LTD.

ATTENTION: Using products other than De'Longhi may damage internal components and invalidate the warranty.
