Introduction
The Proxicast MSNSwitch is designed to automatically power cycle AC-powered devices. It features an internal event log that can trigger email notifications for various actions, including internet connectivity loss. This guide specifically addresses the configuration required for sending these notifications via Google's Gmail service.
Prerequisites
To send emails through Gmail, your Google account must have 2-Step Verification enabled. This is necessary to generate an authorized app password for the MSNSwitch, as Google no longer supports less secure simple password authentication.
For more information on 2-Step Verification, visit: Google Support
Instructions for creating an App Password can be found here: Google App Password Creation
Configuration Steps
1. Generate App Password: In your Google account settings, create a 16-character app password. This password will be used in the MSNSwitch's E-Mail Password field.
2. Configure MSNSwitch: Access the MSNSwitch's web interface. Navigate to the E-mail settings and input the following:
- E-Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
- E-Mail Port: 465 (or as specified by your ISP)
- Sender's E-mail Address: Your Gmail address (e.g., your-email@gmail.com)
- User Name: Your Gmail account username
- Password: The generated 16-character app password
3. Email Address Book: Enter the recipient email addresses (up to 10) where you want the event notifications to be sent.
Note: The MSNSwitch automatically detects SSL or StartTLS authentication. The Event Log E-Mail function is disabled by default and must be enabled via the MSNSwitch's internal web server.
