Search Modes

The LEGEND offers four search modes:

  • Park: Optimized for coin and jewelry hunting in urban areas with modern trash. Default discrimination rejects IDs 1-11. Supports all frequencies.
  • Field: Recommended for coin and relic hunting in fields with ferrous trash and coke. Default discrimination rejects IDs 1-11. Supports all frequencies.
  • Beach: Optimized for dry, wet, and underwater use (up to 3m/10ft). Requires Multi frequency (MW or MD options). Handles salt-induced noise.
  • Goldfield: Optimized for mineralized goldfields, detecting small and large gold nuggets. Supports higher single frequencies (20kHz, 40kHz) and Multi frequency. Features a continuous threshold tone.

Navigating Modes: Use the [Right/Left Buttons] to switch between modes. The selected mode is highlighted.

Frequency: Multi frequency (M) is recommended for most conditions. Single frequencies (e.g., 4kHz, 10kHz, 20kHz, 40kHz) can be advantageous for specific targets or to reduce noise in certain environments. Beach mode requires Multi frequency. Goldfield mode restricts lower single frequencies.

Target ID Resolution: ID resolution differs between Park and Field modes for IDs 11-15.

Multi Frequency Options: Park and Field modes offer M1, M2, M3. M1 is sensitive to higher conductors, M2 to lower conductors, and M3 is ideal for humid/conductive soils.

Black Sand: The Beach mode automatically detects black sand and displays a warning icon.

Sensitivity

Sensitivity adjusts detection depth and helps eliminate ambient electromagnetic signals and ground noise. It ranges from 1 to 30. Set sensitivity to the highest level without excessive noise for optimal performance.

Adjusting Sensitivity: Use the [Plus/Minus Buttons] on the main screen. The sensitivity indicator shows levels 1-5, with each level representing 6 units of sensitivity.

Important: Shifting frequency first can help reduce noise before adjusting sensitivity.

Target Depth

The device estimates target depth based on signal strength, displayed in 5 levels. Depth is calibrated for a 2.5cm (1-inch) coin; actual depth varies with target size.

Note: Operating frequency affects estimated depth.

Mute Function

Press and hold the [Frequency Button] to mute the device. 'AO' (Audio Off) will appear. Press and hold again to unmute. The device will automatically unmute in certain menus.

Frequency

The LEGEND supports Multi frequency (M) and five single frequencies (4kHz, 10kHz, 15kHz, 20kHz, 40kHz). Multi frequency offers broad target coverage and better depth/separation, especially in wet beach sand. Single frequencies can be useful for specific targets or in noisy environments.

Beach Mode: Exclusively uses Multi frequency (MW for wet/underwater, MD for dry sand). Single frequencies are not supported.

Goldfield Mode: Supports higher single frequencies (20kHz, 40kHz) and Multi frequency, optimized for mineralized ground.

Multi Frequency Types: M1 (higher conductors), M2 (lower conductors), M3 (humid/conductive soils).

Target ID and Frequency: Lower frequencies generally provide better results for larger, high-conductive targets, while higher frequencies are better for smaller, low-conductive targets.

Target ID

Target ID numbers (01-60) indicate target conductivity. Ferrous targets typically range from 1-10, non-ferrous from 11-60. Target IDs can vary due to orientation, depth, purity, corrosion, and ground mineralization. The device may sometimes fail to provide an ID for targets at fringe depths or smaller targets.

Target IDs are estimates; actual identification requires digging. Gold targets may have IDs similar to trash items like iron or foil.

Important: Larger targets may register higher IDs than expected.

Discrimination Patterns

The LEGEND offers four discrimination patterns:

  • All Metal (A): Accepts all IDs (1-60).
  • Ground Off (G): Rejects IDs 1-2.
  • Ferrous Off (F): Rejects ferrous targets (IDs 1-10). This is the default for Park, Field, and Beach modes.
  • Custom (C): Allows users to create personalized rejection/acceptance patterns. This is the default for Goldfield mode (Ground Off).

Note: Discrimination settings are mode-specific.

Automatic Notching: Swing the coil over a target to reject or accept its ID. Use the [Pinpoint/Accept Button]. Sensitivity temporarily drops to 5; press [Ground Balance Button] to restore current sensitivity.

Forming a Customized Pattern (Notch): Press and hold the [Discrimination Button] to enter the menu. Use [Right/Left Buttons] to select IDs and [Pinpoint/Accept Button] to toggle them. Sensitivity drops to 5.

Ground Balance

Ground balancing optimizes depth and stability, especially in mineralized ground. It can be performed automatically, manually, or via tracking.

Automatic Ground Balance: Find a metal-free spot. Press and hold the [Ground Balance Button]. Pump the coil smoothly 15-20cm (6-8 inches) above the ground down to 3cm (1 inch) off the ground until the ground response audio is minimized. Repeat 2-3 times to ensure consistency.

Manual Ground Balance: Enter the ground balance screen by pressing the [Ground Balance Button] once. Listen to the ground response while pumping the coil. Use [Plus/Minus Buttons] to adjust the ground balance value until the response is eliminated.

Ground Tracking: Activates automatic ground balance adjustment during detection. Press [Ground Balance Button] once, then [Pinpoint/Accept Button] once to activate. The device continuously updates the ground balance.

Note: Ground balance values may differ between single and Multi frequencies, and between Beach MW/MD options.

Pinpoint

Pinpoint mode allows precise location of a target. Unlike motion detection, the signal remains when the coil is stationary. Press the [Pinpoint/Accept Button] to enter pinpoint mode. The device does not discriminate or provide Target IDs in this mode.

To Perform Pinpoint: After detecting a target, move the coil aside and press the [Pinpoint/Accept Button]. Slowly bring the coil closer to the target. The sound will get stronger and change pitch as you approach the center. Mark the loudest point. Repeat from different directions for accuracy.

FerroCheck™

FerroCheck™ graphically displays the ferrous/non-ferrous ratio of a target, aiding in identification beyond Target ID. It works best with shallower targets receiving a strong signal.

Usage: Sweep the coil widely over the target from different angles. More than 2 bars on the ferrous side indicate an alloy with iron content.

Ferrous Target: Shows 100% ferrous on both Target ID and FerroCheck™.

True Non-Ferrous Target: Shows 100% non-ferrous on both Target ID and FerroCheck™.

False Non-Ferrous Target: May show a non-ferrous ID but is identified as alloy with iron content by FerroCheck™.

Mineralization Indicator

Ground mineralization (iron particles or salt) can cause false signals. Access the mineralization indicator by pressing the [Discrimination Button] while in the ground balance menu. 'GI' indicates Ground Indicator, 'FC' indicates FerroCheck™.

The indicator bar shows iron mineralization on the left and salt mineralization on the right (works in Multi frequency only).

Settings

Access the settings menu by pressing the [Power & Settings Button] once. Navigate settings using [Right/Left Buttons]. Adjust values using [Plus/Minus Buttons]. Press [Power & Settings Button] again to exit.

Frequency Shift

Eliminates electromagnetic interference. Offers 13 channels. Can be set manually (operator selects channel) or automatically (device scans for the quietest channel).

Recovery Speed

Adjusts target response speed for separating targets in close proximity. Ranges from 1 (slow, deeper targets) to 10 (fast, better separation). Affects depth inversely.

Iron Filter (IF)

Helps detect non-ferrous targets masked by iron. Ranges from 0-9 (Park, Field, Goldfield) or 1-9 (Beach). Level 9 can discriminate mid-conductors like shotgun cartridges.

Stability for Iron Filter (St)

Fine-tunes the Iron Filter. Ranges from 1-5. Inactive when IF is 8 or 9 in Park, Field, Goldfield modes.

Stability in Beach Mode

Minimizes ground noise and false signals on beaches. Ranges from 1-5. Higher stability may reduce detection of low-conductive targets like gold.

Bottle Cap Rejection (bC)

Discourages bottle cap detection by treating them as iron. Ranges from 0-8. Works in Multi frequency only.

Ground Suppressor (GS)

Eliminates false ground signals in tough terrains. Ranges from 0-8. Recommended to use only when needed.

Volume

Adjusts the device's volume level (0-6). Affects power consumption. Wired headphone volume is also adjusted here.

Audio Gain (AG)
