Somfy TaHoma Configuration Guide for Amazon Alexa

This guide details how to integrate your Somfy TaHoma smart home system with Amazon Alexa for voice control.

1. Getting Started

To begin, download the Amazon Alexa mobile application from your device's app store.

Ensure you have a valid Amazon account. Alexa services are provided based on the information recorded on the Amazon website. It is important that the region associated with your Amazon account for Alexa services matches your actual geographical region.

Example: Users in India should use an Amazon account registered on "Amazon.in". Accounts registered in other regions, such as the UK or .COM, may not function correctly for TaHoma integration in India.

Make sure you have already added devices and scenes within your TaHoma Living Application. Blinds, shutters, and lights are all supported by Alexa.

2. Alexa Skill Setup

Launch the Alexa mobile app on your smartphone.

  1. Open your ALEXA application.
  2. Tap on the "More" option.
  3. Select the section "Skills & Games".

Search for the skill named "Tahoma by Somfy".

Enable the Skill on your phone. This involves linking your Somfy account.

With the "TaHoma By Somfy" skill for Alexa, you can interact with the devices connected to your TaHoma or Connexoon by voice. To get started, select the 'Enable Skill' button in the Alexa App to link your Somfy account.

Example voice commands include: "Alexa, close the kitchen shade" or "Alexa, raise the bedroom blind to 10 percent".

3. Linking Alexa and Somfy Accounts

It is required to link the Alexa application with your Somfy account.

Enter your TaHoma login (email address) and password to connect Alexa to Somfy Smart Services. This operation is required only once.

Wait while Alexa and Somfy set up and browse your Smart Home System. You will see messages indicating "Account Linking" and "Alexa is looking for devices to connect...".

4. Device Discovery and Setup

Congratulations! Your Alexa account is now linked with Somfy TaHoma!

Your devices have been added to your Alexa account. Next, continue setting up each of these devices one at a time.

Lighting and window covering devices are automatically discovered. However, setting up each individual device is required.

The app will display a list of automatically discovered devices. Select a device to set up first.

Troubleshooting Note: If devices already configured in TaHoma are not displayed in Alexa, it is necessary to disable and re-enable the Skill. If the procedure does not succeed, proceed to the troubleshooting page in this guide.

5. Alexa Device Setup Completion

Select the device you wish to set up. Alexa will include it in the list of enabled devices.

Once the setup of all Smart Home devices is terminated, Alexa will provide the message: "All your devices are set up".

Your selected device, such as "blind office", will be shown as "set up and ready to use".

6. What Can Be Controlled with Alexa

Now blinds, curtains, and lights can be controlled by voice by simply saying: "Alexa, <name of the device>".

Devices able to be discovered by Alexa include:

  • Roller Shutters
  • Swinging Shutters
  • Exterior Venetian Blinds
  • Exterior Screens
  • Screens
  • Venetian Blinds
  • Curtains
  • Lights
  • On/Off devices
  • Blaster (if applicable)

Scenes configured within TaHoma will also be discovered and controllable by Alexa.

7. Scenarios & Routines

Alexa offers Routines and Scenes. Scenes are imported from your TaHoma configuration. To launch an imported Scene from TaHoma, say: "Alexa, RUN <name of the scene>".

Viewing and Updating Scenes:

  1. Tap on "Scene" in the Alexa app.
  2. A list of imported Scenarios will be available.
  3. Tapping on "Learn More" allows you to update the list of Scenes.

Troubleshooting Note: If a scene configured in TaHoma is not displayed in Alexa, check the troubleshooting page in this guide.

Routines are combinations of commands made available by Alexa and can be configured directly from the Alexa mobile app.

Creating a New Routine

1. Tap on the "+" icon for adding a new routine.

Tap on "Enter Routine Name" to assign a name to your new routine.

You can then add specific phrases or triggers for the routine, such as "Alexa, privacy" or "Welcome me home".

Selecting a Starter Condition

1. Select a starter condition for the new routine. This can be:

  • Voice: A specific phrase you say to Alexa.
  • Schedule: A specific time and day.
  • Smart Home: An event triggered by another smart device.
  • Location: Based on your geographical location (e.g., arriving home).
  • Alarms, Sound Detection, Guard, Echo Button.

A routine can be launched by a voice command or if a specific condition is met. For example, a routine can be configured to automatically raise the rolling blind in the bedroom every morning at 8 am.

Routine Actions

1. A routine can control single devices, a group of devices, or even a scene.

Routines can be related to Smart Home functions or other automated processes. In the "Smart Home" section, all TaHoma devices and scenes are accessible for inclusion in routines.

Specifying Device Actions

For each device involved in the routine, you must specify the action it needs to perform (e.g., Open/Close for blinds, On/Off for lights).

When the routine is fully configured and saved, an acknowledgment message will be displayed on the top of the screen, confirming that the routine is ready.

8. Other Functions

8.1. Groups & Rooms

1. Groups & Rooms allow you to control groups of devices all together.

You can create custom groups, such as "Bangkok room" or "Office", and manage devices within them.

8.2. Device Control within Groups

Each group presents a list of controllable devices. Each device can be enabled or disabled individually within its group.

For example, within a "Lights" group, you can turn individual lights on or off, or control all lights in a room simultaneously.
