Connections and Operation
Equalization
Phonic aSK speakers are designed to reproduce audio signals as sent by your amplifier or powered mixer. Equalization efforts should focus on venue acoustics rather than speaker response. Overly harsh equalization can negatively impact the overall sound.
Connection Types
The aSK speakers feature 1/4" TRS phone jack connectors for speaker input and link/thru outputs. Connect the input to an appropriate output device like a power amplifier or powered mixer. Phone jack connectors push into place and do not require soldering. Do not remove connectors until all gear is switched off. The "thru" connector can be used to run multiple speakers in parallel.
All aSK passive loudspeakers use Speakon connectors for speaker input and link/thru outputs. Input is received on pin 1 of the input jacks, and the signal is sent directly through the "thru" outputs. For aSK 2-Way models, the "In" and "Thru" jacks are interchangeable, allowing either to be used as an input. These "Thru" outputs enable speakers to share power from a single amplifier, effectively halving the impedance (e.g., two 8-ohm speakers in parallel present a 4-ohm load). Ensure your amplifier can handle the resulting impedance.
Impedances
Except for the aSK215 and aSK18SB, the nominal impedance for aSK speakers is 8 ohms. This allows a single speaker to be used with an amplifier channel rated down to 8 ohms. Two speakers can be used with a 4-ohm rated channel, and four speakers with a 2-ohm rated channel (always check amplifier specifications). The aSK215 and aSK18SB have a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, allowing use with amplifiers rated down to 4 ohms per channel.
Operation
Always turn off the amplifier before making connections. Use properly wired 1/4" TRS cables for optimal performance. After making connections, turn on the amplifier with all channel levels set to zero. Avoid driving the amplifier to overload or clipping to maintain speaker integrity.
High Pass / Thru (aSK18SB)
The aSK18SB features an independent "thru" port that passes the input signal to additional passive speakers, sharing amplifier power. A "High Pass / Thru" switch allows selection of a high-pass filter for the outgoing signal. The subwoofer has an internal low-pass filter, ensuring only low-frequency signals are sent to the subwoofer for deeper bass and protection.
