Passive PoE Adapter
The Passive PoE Adapter has the following ports:
- Power LED
- PoE Port
- LAN Port
2 Lightning and ESD Protection
Before mounting the EAP outdoors, consider Lightning and ESD protection for safety. Proper grounding is crucial for outdoor devices. Connect the grounding terminal to grounding facilities using a suitable grounding wire that meets local installation requirements. Secure the grounding wire to the terminal with the provided screw.
3 Hardware Installation
Mount the EAP
The EAP can be pole-mounted or wall-mounted. Follow the steps below for the appropriate installation.
Option 1: Pole Mounting
- Lead the end of the pole mounting strap through the back of the EAP.
- Position the EAP and wrap the pole mounting strap around the pole. Feed the end through the screw-block and tighten the strap until the EAP is secure.
Option 2: Wall Mounting
- Place the mounting bracket (for EAP) in the desired position. Mark two points for the screw holes. Drill two 6 mm holes for the screws at the marked positions.
- Insert the plastic wall anchors into the 6 mm holes. Align the bracket (for EAP) to the plastic wall anchors and drive the self-tapping screws into the anchors through the bracket.
- Align the mounting tabs on the back of the EAP with the slot of the mounting bracket. Push and slide the EAP downward until it locks into place.
Connect the Cable
Note: It's recommended to scan the QR code and watch the installation video. If you encounter issues, follow these steps:
- Fit an Ethernet cable through the Spiral Cover, Bracket, and O-Ring, and connect the cable to the port.
- Fit the O-Ring to the head of the Bracket and screw the Bracket to the body of the device. Do not warp the O-Ring.
- Fit the Ethernet cable through the Seal's slit with the thicker side towards the Bracket, and plug the seal to the Bracket. Choose the proper Seal according to the type and diameter of the Ethernet cable.
- Screw the Spiral Cover to the Bracket.
Diagram Description: The cable connection process involves assembling a Spiral Cover, Bracket, O-Ring, and Seal onto an Ethernet cable before connecting it to the EAP. The steps detail the order of these components and their placement.
Power On
The EAP can be powered via the provided passive PoE adapter or a PSE device (such as a PoE switch) which complies with LPS or PS2 standard.
Option 1: Via Passive PoE Adapter
Connect the EAP to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) adapter as follows:
Diagram Description: Shows an Ethernet cable connecting from the EAP's LAN port to the LAN port of the Passive PoE Adapter, and the PoE adapter's PoE port connecting to a power source.
Connecting the PoE Adapter
- Remove the mounting bracket from the passive PoE Adapter. Drill two holes on the wall and insert the plastic wall anchors. Secure the mounting bracket to the wall, ensuring the shoulders at the corners point upward.
- Attach the passive PoE adapter to the mounting bracket by sliding it until it locks into place.
Option 2: Via PoE Switch
Connect an Ethernet cable from the PoE switch to the Ethernet port. The PoE switch should comply with 802.3at.
Diagram Description: Shows an Ethernet cable connecting from a PoE Switch to the EAP's Ethernet port.
Mounting the PoE Adapter (Optional)
Note: To ensure the passive PoE adapter is attached most securely, install it with the Ethernet port facing upward.
4 Software Configuration
Choose from the following methods to set up your EAPs:
- Method 1: Standalone Mode: Configure and manage EAPs separately (convenient for small networks with a few devices).
- Method 2: Controller Mode: Configure and manage EAPs in batches on a central platform, namely Omada Controller.
Method 1: Standalone Mode
Note: Before you start, ensure devices are powered up and connected as per the topology. A DHCP server (typically a router) is required to assign IP addresses.
Diagram Description: A simple network topology showing a Router connected to an EAP, with Clients connected to the EAP.
Via Omada App
- Download the TP-Link Omada App from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect your mobile device to the EAP using the default SSID (format: TP-Link_2.4GHz/5GHz_XXXXXX) printed on the product label.
- Open the Omada App and wait for the EAP to appear on the Standalone APs page. Tap the EAP to configure it.
The Omada App is designed for quick configuration of common settings. For advanced settings, use the EAP's web page or Controller Mode.
Via Web Browser
- Connect wirelessly using the default SSID (format: TP-Link_2.4GHz/5GHz_XXXXXX).
- Launch a web browser and enter
http://tplinkeap.net
in the address bar. Use 'admin' for both Username and Password to log in. - Set up a new Username and Password for secure management. Modify wireless parameters and reconnect your devices.
To configure other EAPs, repeat the steps using their respective default SSIDs. Standalone Mode allows basic functions; use Controller Mode for advanced functions.
Method 2: Controller Mode
Choose from the following two types of Omada Controller:
- Type 1: Omada Software Controller: Download from https://www.tp-link.com/support/download/omada-software-controller/. Install and launch on a PC (Windows/Linux). The controller must remain running on your computer.
- Type 2: Omada Hardware Controller (OC200/OC300): An alternative if you don't have a spare PC. Requires separate purchase. Refer to the Installation Guide for OC200/OC300 for details.
Note: Ensure devices are powered up and connected. A DHCP server is required. The Omada Controller must have network access to your Omada devices (router, switch, EAPs) for management.
Diagram Description: Network topology showing a Router and Switch connected to multiple EAPs, managed by either an Omada Software Controller running on a Host PC or an Omada Hardware Controller (OC200/OC300). Clients are also shown connected.
Via Omada App
- Download the TP-Link Omada App from the App Store or Google Play.
- Launch the Omada App and configure the controller for local or remote site management.
- Local Management: Connect your mobile device to the EAP's default SSID, launch Omada App, go to Local Access, tap '+', and add the controller.
- Remote Management: Ensure controller and mobile device have internet access.
- For Omada Software Controller: Enable Cloud Access on the controller and bind your TP-Link ID. Log into the Omada App with your TP-Link ID, go to Cloud Access, and add the controller.
- For Omada Hardware Controller: Ensure Cloud Access is enabled (Cloud LED flashing slowly). Log into the Omada App with your TP-Link ID, go to Cloud Access, tap '+', choose Hardware Controller, and add it.
Via Web Browser
- Open the Omada Controller's web page.
- For Omada Software Controller: Launch the software on your PC; it should open its web page automatically.
- For Omada Hardware Controller: Find its IP address from your router's DHCP client list. Access the router's web page (Default Gateway IP), navigate to Network > LAN > DHCP Client List, find the controller by MAC address, then enter the controller's IP address in your browser.
- Follow the wizard to complete the quick setup.
- Log in with your created username and password.
- (For Remote Management) Access and manage your controller via Omada Cloud Service by logging into https://omada.tplinkcloud.com with your TP-Link ID.
Note for Remote Management: Ensure both your controller and PC can access the internet. For Omada Software Controller, enable Cloud Access and bind your TP-Link ID in Settings > Cloud Access. For Omada Hardware Controller, ensure Cloud Access is enabled.
