AiMesh WiFi System Setup
Preparation
- Get two ZenWiFi BT10 units and power them on.
- Use a network cable to connect your optical modem to the WAN/LAN1 port or the 10G WAN/LAN2 port of the ZenWiFi BT10 labeled "Main Unit". This ZenWiFi BT10 will be the AiMesh router, and the other ZenWiFi BT10 will be the AiMesh node.
- The LED light turns solid blue to indicate that the ZenWiFi BT10 is ready for configuration.
ASUS Router App
Download the free ASUS Router App to configure and control your router(s).
[Download on the App Store] [Get it on Google Play]
Setup Steps
- Preparation: Place the AiMesh router and node in the same room and at least 1 meter apart during the setup process.
- AiMesh Node: Keep the AiMesh node powered on and ready for AiMesh system configuration.
- Start ASUS Router App: Open the ASUS Router App and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the AiMesh setup.
NOTE: When using a wireless backhaul to connect your router and AiMesh node, the WAN/LAN ports on your AiMesh node can be used as LAN ports.
Troubleshooting
If the AiMesh router cannot find any nearby AiMesh nodes or synchronization fails, check the following and try again:
- a. Move the node closer to the AiMesh router if possible. Ensure it is within 3 meters.
- b. Verify that the AiMesh node is powered on.
Placement for Optimal Performance
Place the router and AiMesh node in the best possible location.
NOTES: To minimize interference, keep routers away from devices like cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, and microwave ovens. It is recommended to place routers in an open or spacious area.
LED Indicators
ZenWiFi BT10 LED Indicators:
- Solid Blue: The ZenWiFi BT10 is ready for configuration.
- Solid White: The ZenWiFi BT10 is connected and functioning correctly.
- Solid Yellow: The signal between your ZenWiFi BT10 router and the node is weak.
- Solid Red: The ZenWiFi BT10 has no Internet connection. / The node is disconnected from the router.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Does the AiMesh router support Access Point mode?
A: Yes. You can choose to configure the AiMesh router in router mode or access point mode. Access the graphical user interface (http://asusrouter.com) and select Administration > Operation Mode.
Q2: Can a wired connection be established between AiMesh routers (Ethernet backhaul)?
A: Yes. The AiMesh system supports both wireless and cable connections between the AiMesh router and node to maximize performance and stability. AiMesh analyzes the wireless signal strength for each available frequency band and then automatically determines whether a wireless or wired connection is best to serve as the central link between routers.
- First, follow the setup steps to establish a connection between the AiMesh router and the node via WiFi.
- Place the node in the ideal location for best coverage. Run an Ethernet cable from the AiMesh router's LAN port to the AiMesh node's WAN port.
- The AiMesh system will automatically select the best route for data transmission, whether wired or wireless.
