Quick Start Guide: VTech LS6425 Series Cordless Answering System

Introduction

This quick start guide provides basic installation and use instructions for the VTech LS6425 series cordless answering system. For complete details, please refer to the user's manual.

Telephone Base and Charger Installation

Install the telephone base and charger as follows:

  • Connect the telephone base power adapter to the telephone base and plug it into an electrical outlet.
  • Connect the charger adapter to the charger and plug it into an electrical outlet.
  • Connect the telephone line cord to the telephone base and the telephone wall jack.
  • If you have DSL high-speed Internet service, a DSL filter (not included) is required between the telephone line cord and the DSL service.

Note: Ensure electrical outlets are not controlled by a wall switch.

Handset Overview

The handset features the following controls and indicators:

  • [CHARGE indicator]: Lights up when the handset is charging.
  • [VOLUME] /: Review the directory when idle. Scroll up in menus. Increase listening volume during calls or message playback. Move cursor right when entering data.
  • [MUTE/DELETE]: Mute the microphone during a call. Delete entries in directory, caller ID log, or redial list. Silence the ringer temporarily. Delete digits/characters while dialing.
  • [FLASH] /: Make or answer a call. Answer a call waiting call. Press repeatedly to add or remove '1' before dialing/saving caller ID entries.
  • [TONE]: Switch to tone dialing temporarily during a call.
  • [SPEAKER] /: Make or answer calls using the speakerphone. Switch between speakerphone and handset during a call.
  • [REDIAL/PAUSE]: Review the redial list. Press and hold to insert a dialing pause.

Telephone Base Overview

The telephone base includes the following:

  • [IN USE indicator]: Flashes for incoming calls or when another phone on the line is in use. Solid when handset is in use or answering system is active. Flashes when handsets are deregistering or registering.
  • [FIND HANDSET] /: Page all system handsets.
  • [REPEAT] /: Repeat a message or play the previous message (press twice).
  • [CID/VOLUME]: Review caller ID log when idle. Scroll down in menus. Decrease listening volume during calls or message playback. Move cursor left when entering data.
  • [MENU/SELECT]: Access menus. Select menu items or save entries/settings.
  • [PUSH TO TALK] (PTT): Initiate one-to-one or one-to-group broadcasts.
  • [OFF/CANCEL]: End a call. Silence ringer temporarily. Press and hold to delete missed call indicator. Press to return to previous menu or hold to return to idle mode.
  • Dialing keys (0-9, #, *): Enter numbers and characters.
  • [EQ]: Change audio quality during calls or playback.

Battery Installation and Charging

  1. Securely plug the battery connector into the socket inside the handset battery compartment, matching the color-coded label.
  2. Place the battery with the label "THIS SIDE UP" facing up, and wires inside the compartment.
  3. Slide the battery compartment cover towards the center of the handset until it clicks.
  4. Place the handset in the telephone base or charger to charge. The [CHARGE indicator] remains on while charging.

For best performance, charge the handset battery continuously for at least 10 hours.

Using the Menu

To access the handset menu:

  1. Press [MENU/SELECT] when the telephone is not in use.
  2. Press [Scroll Up] or [Scroll Down] until the desired feature menu is displayed.
  3. Press [MENU/SELECT] to enter the menu.

Press [OFF/CANCEL] to return to the previous menu. Press and hold [OFF/CANCEL] to return to idle mode.

Telephone Settings

Default settings are indicated by asterisks (*).

Telephone Operation

Make a Call

  • Press [FLASH] or [SPEAKER], then dial the telephone number.
  • Alternatively, predial by dialing the number first, then press [FLASH] or [SPEAKER].

Answer a Call

Press [FLASH], [SPEAKER], or any dialing key (0-9, #, *).

End a Call

Press [OFF/CANCEL] or place the handset on the telephone base or charger.

Answering System and Voicemail

Your telephone indicates new messages from the built-in answering system and from your telephone service provider's voicemail separately. A message window on the base and "XX New messages" on the handset indicate new answering system messages. "New Voicemail" on the handset indicates new messages from your service provider.

The built-in answering system has a total recording time of approximately 14 minutes and can store up to 99 messages.

Answering System Operation

Turn the Answering System On or Off

Press [ANS ON/OFF] on the telephone base. The [ANS ON/OFF indicator] on the base turns on, and "ANS ON" displays on the handset when the system is on.

Record Your Own Announcement

You can record a personal announcement (up to 90 seconds):

  1. Press [MENU/SELECT] when idle.
  2. Scroll to >Answering sys., then press [MENU/SELECT] twice.
  3. Scroll to >Record annc., then press [MENU/SELECT].
  4. Follow the voice prompt: "Record after the tone. Press 5 when you are done." Speak towards the handset microphone.
  5. Press 5 when finished. The system will play back the announcement.

Message Playback

With the telephone base: Press [PLAY/STOP] when idle. Use [VOLUME] / [VOLUME] to adjust volume, [SKIP] to go to the next message, [REPEAT] to repeat or play the previous message (press twice), and [DELETE] to delete the current message.

With a handset: Press [MENU/SELECT] twice when idle. During playback, press [MENU/SELECT] to pause and view caller ID, then press [FLASH] or [SPEAKER] to call back. Press [FLASH] to stop playback and initiate a callback. Use [VOLUME] / [VOLUME] to adjust volume. Press [EQ] to adjust audio quality. Press 6 to skip, 4 to repeat (or previous message), and [MUTE/DELETE] to delete.

Delete All Old Messages

At the telephone base: Press [DELETE] twice when idle.

With a handset: Press [MENU/SELECT] when idle, scroll to >Answering sys., press [MENU/SELECT], scroll to >Delete all old, then press [MENU/SELECT] twice.

Call Screening

When call screening is on, you can hear callers leaving messages at the telephone base. On the handset, you can press [MENU/SELECT] to screen the call and view caller ID information.

Call Intercept

If you wish to speak to a caller leaving a message, press [FLASH] or [SPEAKER] on the handset.

Access the Answering System Remotely

  1. Dial your telephone number from any touch-tone telephone.
  2. When the announcement plays, enter your two-digit remote code (default is 19).
  3. Use the following commands:
    • 1: Play all messages.
    • 2: Play new messages.
    • 3: Delete a message (during playback).
    • 33: Delete all old messages.
    • 4: Repeat current message (during playback).
    • 44: Listen to previous message (during playback).
    • 5: Stop.
    • *5: Hear a list of remote commands.
    • 6: Skip to the next message (during playback).
    • *7: Record a new announcement.
    • 8: End the call.
    • 0: Turn the answering system on or off.
  4. Press 8 to end the call or hang up.
