Operation
This section details how to safely start, operate, and shut down the generator.
Starting the Generator
Before Starting:
- Ensure the generator is on a level surface outdoors, away from any structures.
- Check the engine oil level and add if necessary.
- For Gasoline Operation: Ensure the fuel cap is tight and the fuel valve is open.
- For Propane Operation: Connect a standard propane tank using the provided regulator and hose. Ensure the propane tank valve is open and the generator's propane inlet valve is open.
- Ensure no loads are connected to the generator outlets.
Starting Procedure (Electric/Remote Start):
- Turn the engine switch to the 'ON' position.
- Turn the fuel selector switch to 'GASOLINE' or 'PROPANE' as desired.
- Turn the choke lever to the 'CHOKE' position.
- Press the 'START' button on the control panel or use the remote control. The engine will crank and start.
- Once the engine starts and runs smoothly, gradually move the choke lever to the 'RUN' position.
- Allow the generator to warm up for a few minutes before connecting loads.
Connecting Loads:
- Ensure the total wattage of connected devices does not exceed the generator's rated output.
- Connect devices one at a time, starting with the highest wattage items.
- The generator features overload protection. If an overload occurs, the output will shut off. Reduce the load and restart the generator.
Shutting Down the Generator:
- Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator outlets.
- Turn the engine switch to the 'OFF' position.
- Turn the fuel valve to the 'OFF' position (for gasoline). Close the propane tank valve and disconnect the propane line if storing for an extended period.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your generator.
Routine Checks (Before Each Use):
- Check engine oil level.
- Inspect air filter for cleanliness.
- Visually inspect the generator for any damage or leaks.
Scheduled Maintenance:
- First 20 Hours: Change engine oil. Clean or replace the air filter.
- Every 100 Hours (or annually): Change engine oil. Clean or replace the air filter. Inspect spark plug. Check valve clearance (refer to service manual for details).
- Every 200 Hours (or annually): Replace spark plug. Clean fuel filter.
- Every 500 Hours (or annually): Inspect the cylinder head and exhaust port for carbon buildup.
Oil Change:
- Warm up the engine for a few minutes.
- Turn the engine OFF and place a suitable container under the oil drain plug.
- Remove the oil drain plug and allow the oil to drain completely.
- Replace the drain plug and fill the crankcase with the recommended type and amount of engine oil (refer to specifications for oil type, e.g., SAE 10W-30).
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, then check the oil level and top off if necessary.
Air Filter Maintenance:
- Remove the air filter cover.
- Remove the air filter element. If it is a foam element, wash it in warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely. Lightly oil the foam element with clean engine oil and squeeze out the excess. If it is a paper element, tap it gently to remove dust or replace it if it is very dirty.
- Reinstall the air filter and cover.
Troubleshooting
Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions.
Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Generator does not start | Engine switch is OFF. | Turn engine switch to 'ON'. |
No fuel or fuel valve is OFF. | Add fuel or open fuel valve. For propane, ensure tank is connected and valve is open. | |
Choke is not set correctly. | Set choke to 'CHOKE' for cold start, 'RUN' for warm start. | |
Low oil level. | Check and add oil. | |
Spark plug is fouled or disconnected. | Clean or replace spark plug, ensure connection is secure. | |
Generator starts but stops | Low oil level. | Check and add oil. |
Overload condition. | Reduce connected load. | |
Air filter is clogged. | Clean or replace air filter. | |
No power output | Circuit breaker tripped. | Reset the circuit breaker. Ensure load does not exceed generator capacity. |
Loose connection to outlet. | Check all cable connections. | |
Engine runs rough | Clogged fuel filter. | Clean or replace fuel filter. |
Water in fuel. | Drain fuel tank and carburetor, refill with fresh fuel. |
