Safety Instructions
Intended for Domestic Cooking Only. For Residential Use Only.
General Safety Precautions
⚠️ To Reduce the Risk of Fire, Electric Shock, or Injury to Persons:
- Use the unit only as intended by the manufacturer. Contact manufacturer for questions.
- Disconnect power at the service panel and lock it before servicing or cleaning. Use a warning device if locking is not possible.
- Installation and electrical wiring must be performed by qualified persons according to applicable codes.
- Ensure sufficient air for proper combustion and exhausting of gases from fuel-burning equipment to prevent backdrafting. Follow heating equipment manufacturer guidelines and safety standards (NFPA, ASHRAE, local codes).
- Do not damage electrical wiring or hidden utilities when cutting or drilling walls/ceilings.
- Do not use with an additional speed control device.
- Ducted fans must always be vented outdoors.
- Use only metal ductwork to reduce fire risk.
- Use only with approved cord-connection kits.
- The unit must be grounded.
Grease Fire Safety
⚠️ To Reduce the Risk of a Range Top Grease Fire:
- Never leave surface units unattended on high settings. Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spills that may ignite. Heat oils slowly on low or medium settings.
- Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or with flaming foods.
- Clean ventilating fans frequently. Grease accumulation on fans or filters can ignite.
- Use cookware appropriate for the size of the surface element.
⚠️ To Reduce the Risk of Injury to Persons in the Event of a Range Top Grease Fire:
- Smother flames with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner. Be careful to prevent burns. If flames persist, evacuate and call the fire department.
- NEVER pick up a flaming pan.
- DO NOT USE WATER, as it can cause a violent steam explosion.
- Use an extinguisher ONLY if: you have a Class ABC extinguisher and know how to operate it; the fire is small and contained; the fire department is called; and you can fight the fire with your back to an exit.
Based on "Kitchen Firesafety Tips" published by NFPA.
Cautionary Notes
⚠️
- For general ventilating use only. Do not exhaust hazardous or explosive materials/vapors.
- Keep the power unit free of drywall spray, construction dust, etc., to avoid motor bearing damage and noise.
- Mount the hood 24-30 inches above the cooking surface for optimal capture of cooking impurities.
- Use only with investigated and approved range hood cord-connection kits.
- Refer to the product specification label for further requirements.
Note for Non-Ducted Installation: Purchase (2) non-ducted filters and attach them to the aluminum mesh filters.
Operation
Fan and Lights
The hood features 3 push-button switches for fan speed and 3 for light intensity. Press a button to select speed/level. Press the same button to turn off. A light above each fan button indicates the selected speed.
Heat Sentry
This feature monitors temperature and automatically turns the fan to its highest speed when the temperature is above normal. The indicator light above the fan button will flash (on/off or rapidly) if the fan is on or off, respectively. The fan returns to its previous setting once the temperature normalizes.
Fuse
The control contains a fuse to protect against power surges. If the fuse blows, the fan and lights will not operate, though indicators may still function. The fuse is a 5x20mm, 10 Amp, Fast-Acting, 125V type. Common part numbers include Littlefuse 217010, Bussmann GMA10A, Wickmann 1942100.
To Replace Fuse:
- Disconnect power at the service entrance.
- Remove filters, bottom panel, light wire harness, and air chute.
- Remove and inspect the fuse. If not blown, further diagnostics are needed.
- Install a new fuse.
- Reassemble the unit.
- Turn on power and test operation.
Non-Ducted Operation
For non-ducted installations, purchase and attach Clean Cooking Filters to the aluminum mesh filters. For best results, use speeds 1 and 2 for efficient and quiet operation.
Cleaning
⚠️ Disconnect power before cleaning.
Aluminum Mesh Filters
Clean frequently with hot water and mild detergent, or in a dishwasher. Wash monthly, or more often if heavy grease is generated (e.g., frying, wok cooking).
Non-Ducted Filters (Clean Cooking Hoods Only)
Clean filter surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not immerse in water or use a dishwasher. The "Clean Sense" feature indicates when replacement is needed (blue/yellow strips turn green).
Painted Hood Surfaces
Wipe regularly with mild soap/detergent and warm water. Avoid "New and Improved" cleaning agents, as heat from cooking equipment can react with them and loosen paint.
Stainless Steel Hood Surfaces
Wash regularly with a clean cloth, warm water, and mild soap/dish detergent. Clean in the direction of the polish lines. Rinse and wipe dry. A light furniture polish can enhance shine.
Teflon® Hood Surfaces
Do not use abrasive cloths, steel wool pads, or scouring powder on Teflon®-coated surfaces.
Fan Assembly
Clean fan blades with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Ensure blades are not bent or misaligned. Do not allow water to enter the motor. Ensure all surfaces are dry before re-installing filters and restoring power. The motor is permanently lubricated.

Installation Instructions
Prepare The Hood Location
1. Determine Discharge Type: Decide if the hood will discharge vertically (3¼" x 10" or 7" Round), horizontally (3¼" x 10" only), or be non-ducted. For vertical or horizontal discharge, run ductwork between the hood location and a roof cap or wall cap. Use a minimum number of transitions and elbows for best results.
