ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING Motherboard
Quick Start Guide
Step 1: Install the CPU
Carefully align the CPU with the socket (marked with a triangle or pin 1 indicator) and gently place it into the socket. Ensure the CPU is correctly oriented. Close the retention lever to secure the CPU.
[Diagram Description: Shows a CPU being aligned with the AM4 socket and placed into it. The socket lever is shown being moved to secure the CPU.]
Step 2: Install the CPU Fan
Mount the CPU cooler according to its specific instructions (Type 1 or Type 2 mounting). Ensure the cooler is securely attached to the motherboard. Connect the CPU fan cable to the CPU_FAN header on the motherboard.
[Diagram Description: Illustrates two methods for attaching a CPU cooler. Type 1 involves installing a backplate and then screwing the cooler in place. Type 2 uses the existing motherboard retention module. The fan cable is shown connecting to the motherboard header.]
Motherboard Layout Overview
Familiarize yourself with the motherboard's layout. Key components include the CPU Socket (AM4), DDR4 DIMM slots for memory, PCIe slots for expansion cards, M.2 slots for SSDs, SATA ports for storage drives, ATX power connectors, CPU and chassis fan headers, USB headers, and front panel connectors.
[Diagram Description: A detailed map of the ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING motherboard, highlighting the CPU socket, RAM slots (DIMM_A1, DIMM_A2, DIMM_B1, DIMM_B2), various PCIe slots (PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2, PCIEX1_1, etc.), M.2 slots, SATA ports, main power connectors (EATXPWR, EATX12V), fan headers (CPU_FAN, CHA_FAN), USB headers, front panel connector (PANEL), and other essential ports like HDMI, DP, and LAN.]
Step 3: Install Memory Modules
Open the clips on the DIMM slots. Align the notch on the memory module with the notch in the slot. Press down firmly on both ends of the module until the clips snap into place, securing the memory.
[Diagram Description: Shows how to open the clips on a RAM slot, align a memory module with the slot's key, and push it down until the clips engage.]
Step 4: Install Storage Devices
Install M.2 SSDs into the designated M.2 slots and secure them with the provided screw. Connect SATA storage devices (HDDs, SSDs) to the SATA ports using SATA data and power cables.
[Diagram Description: Illustrates installing an M.2 SSD into an M.2 slot and securing it with a screw. Also shows connecting SATA drives to SATA ports.]
Step 5: Install Expansion Card(s)
Remove the corresponding slot cover from the PC case. Align the expansion card (e.g., graphics card) with the appropriate PCIe slot and press down firmly until it is seated and secured.
[Diagram Description: Shows an expansion card being inserted into a PCIe slot after removing a case slot cover.]
Step 6: Install the System Panel Connector
Connect the small cables from your PC case's front panel (power switch, reset switch, HDD LED, power LED) to the corresponding pins on the motherboard's front panel header.
[Diagram Description: Depicts the front panel header pins on the motherboard and the corresponding case cables being connected to them.]
Step 7: Install ATX Power Connectors
Connect the main 24-pin ATX power cable and the 8-pin (or 4+4 pin) CPU power cable from your power supply unit to the motherboard.
[Diagram Description: Shows the main 24-pin ATX power connector and the CPU power connector being plugged into the motherboard.]
Step 8: Connect Input/Output Devices
Connect your monitor, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals to the appropriate ports on the rear I/O panel and the PC case.
[Diagram Description: Illustrates connecting a monitor via HDMI/DisplayPort, keyboard/mouse via USB, network cable to LAN, and audio devices to the rear I/O panel.]
Step 9: Power on the System and Install Operating System and Drivers
Connect the power cord, turn on the system, and proceed to install your operating system and necessary drivers from the provided media or downloaded from the ASUS support website.
