- Check all parts for proper function and damage before use.
- Do not use this torch to heat, mold, or bend plastic sheets, molding, or tubing.
- Be aware of flammable materials in hidden areas (behind walls, ceilings, floors, etc.) that could be ignited.
- When working in such areas, keep the torch moving in a back-and-forth motion to avoid igniting materials.
- Do not use this torch to remove paint.
- DO NOT MODIFY OR REPAIR valves, connectors, controls, or other parts. This creates a risk of gas leak, property damage, serious injury, or death.

Leaking Propane Gas
If you smell gas:
- Shut off gas to the torch.
- Extinguish any open flame.
- Do not light a match or operate an electrical switch.
- Evacuate the area immediately.
- Call for professional help.
Propane gas is odorless; an odorant (like "rotten eggs") is added for detection, but may fade. Propane gas is heavier than air and collects in low areas.
Risk of Fire and/or Explosion
- Read instructions provided with propane tank before connection or use.
- Do not store extra propane tanks in the work area.
- If gas is smelled during operation, immediately close the propane tank valve.
- If the torch shuts off, close the tank valve, wait 5 minutes for gas to clear, then restart. If it continues, have it serviced.
- Do not use the torch within 15 feet of flammable objects (wood, trees, umbrellas).
- Do not store propane near high heat, open flames, direct sunlight, or temperatures exceeding 120°F (49°C).
- Do not use in spaces with volatile or airborne combustibles (gasoline, solvents, paint thinner, dust).
- Operate with the propane tank in a vertical upright position. Do not tilt or turn the tank upside down.
- Do not drag the tank or pull on the hose.
- Do not install or remove the propane tank while the torch is lit, hot, or near ignition sources. Do this outdoors in a well-ventilated area.
- Remove all packing materials before use.
- Do not use below ground level.
Carbon Monoxide Hazard
Burning propane indoors can be deadly due to carbon monoxide. NEVER use inside a home, tent, camper, or garage, even with open doors/windows. Only use OUTSIDE and far away from openings. Early signs of poisoning resemble flu symptoms (headaches, dizziness, nausea). Get fresh air immediately if symptoms occur. DO NOT USE FOR SPACE HEATING.
Risk of Burns – Product Gets Very Hot During Use
- Do not touch the burner while the torch is lit.
- Before servicing, wait 30 minutes for it to cool down.
- Keep children away from the work area.
Operation Precautions
- Inspect before each use for loose parts, leaks, or damage. Check gas fittings for tightness. Perform a leak test with soapy water. Do not use flame to check for leaks.
- Close torch gas control knob before connection.
- Close torch gas control knob and propane tank valve after use and before leaving the area. Do not leave unattended while lit.
- Set up and use according to manual instructions only.
- Wear ANSI-approved safety goggles with side shields and flame retardant gloves.
- Use only with HD-5 propane gas. Use propane tanks no larger than 20 lbs, vapor withdrawal type, equipped with a POL valve, and DOT compliant. Do not use bulk tanks or other fuels.
- Ensure use conforms to local codes and standards (e.g., ANSI/NFPA 58, CAN/CGA B149.2 for Canada).
- Keep children away from the work area; do not let them handle or adjust the product.
- Store idle equipment in a dry location to inhibit corrosion. Lock up torches and keep out of reach of children.
- Use only as intended. Do not alter the product or use unapproved accessories.
- Maintain product labels and nameplates. Contact Harbor Freight Tools for replacements if unreadable or missing.
- Operator must use common sense and caution, as manual warnings cannot cover all situations.
Functions
The propane torch consists of the following main parts:
- Burner: The nozzle where the flame emerges.
- Gas Control Knob: Used to adjust the gas flow and flame size.
- Handle: The main grip of the torch.
- Handle Connector: Connects the hose to the torch handle.
- Push Button Igniter: Activates the electric spark to light the flame.
- Trigger: Controls the flow of gas to produce a working flame.
- Tank Connector: Connects the hose to the propane tank.
- Hose: Connects the propane tank to the torch handle.
Operation Instructions
Before starting: Ensure you have ABC class fire extinguishers nearby and are familiar with their use. Wear safety goggles and flame retardant gloves. Do not use thread seal tape on connections.
- Turn the Gas Control Knob and propane tank valve OFF.
- Connect the Hose to the Handle Connector. Tighten securely with supplied wrenches.
- Connect the Hose to the propane tank connector. Tighten securely with the wrench.
- Open the propane tank valve. Check for gas leaks using soapy water. Apply soapy water to all joints, regulators, and fittings. Look for bubbles, which indicate a leak. If leaks are found, tighten fittings. If leaks persist, discontinue use and have the product repaired by a qualified technician. Close the propane tank valve after testing.
- Point the Burner in a safe direction, away from people and combustible materials.
- Open the propane tank valve. Turn the Gas Control Knob slightly counterclockwise.
- With the torch in a safe, vertical position, push the Push Button Igniter to activate the electric start. You may need to push it several times.
- Adjust the flame to its lowest setting, aiming for a blue flame with an orange halo.
- To achieve a working flame, depress the Trigger and apply flame to the work surface.
- If flame does not reach working level: Release trigger, close Gas Control Knob and tank valve. Depress trigger to release residual pressure. Wait 10-20 seconds. Slowly open tank valve, then gas control valve. Push igniter again. If issues persist, have the tool serviced.
- Release the Trigger to return to a low flame.
- When finished: Close the propane tank valve. Allow remaining propane to flow out of the Burner until the flame extinguishes. Turn the Gas Control Knob clockwise fully. Disconnect the Hose from the propane tank. Let the Torch cool completely on a non-flammable surface.
- Install a threaded valve plug (not included) into the disconnected propane tank. Store the tank in a well-ventilated area, at least 10 ft from building openings and 20 ft from air intakes. Do not store near heat, open flames, direct sunlight, or temperatures over 120°F (49°C).
- Store the Torch in a safe, dry place, covered to protect from dust and dirt.
Inspection, Maintenance, and Cleaning
Procedures not specified must be performed by a qualified technician. Replace any removed guards before operation.
To Prevent Injury from Accidental Operation: Close tank valve, allow product to cool for at least 30 minutes, and disconnect tank before any maintenance.
To Prevent Injury from Tool Failure: Do not use damaged equipment. Correct abnormal noise or vibration before further use.
- Before Each Use: Inspect general condition, check gas fittings for tightness, hardware, moving parts, cracks, and any other condition affecting safe operation. Perform a leak test (see Operation Instructions, step 4).
- After Use: Wipe external surfaces with a clean cloth.
- Storage: Store in a clean, dry location out of reach of children. If storing indoors, shut off and remove the propane tank, leaving it outdoors.
