Wattstopper WS-250 Passive Infrared Wall Switch Occupancy Sensor
Brand: Wattstopper (a Legrand brand)
Model: WS-250
Product Description
The WS-250 Passive Infrared (PIR) Wall Switch Sensor is designed to automatically control lighting based on both occupancy and ambient light levels. It serves as a direct replacement for standard wall switches and fits discreetly behind a decorator wall plate.
Operation
Utilizing advanced PIR technology, the WS-250 detects occupancy by sensing the difference in infrared energy emitted by a human body in motion against the background environment. When occupancy is detected, the lighting turns on. If no occupancy is detected for a user-defined period, the lighting automatically switches off. The sensor can also be integrated with line voltage switches for multi-level lighting control.
Key Features
- Pulse Count Processing: Eliminates false offs without compromising sensitivity.
- Detection Signature Processing: Prevents false triggers and offers immunity to RFI and EMI.
- Zero Crossing Circuitry: Reduces stress on the relay, extending sensor lifespan.
- Adjustable Time Delay: Configurable from 30 seconds to 30 minutes.
- Adjustable Sensitivity: Unit sensitivity can be set from 20% to 100%.
- Built-in Light Level Sensor: Holds lights off when ambient lighting exceeds a preset threshold. This feature is optional and adjustable.
- Custom Fresnel Lens: Enhances detection at desktop level with a two-tier design.
- Coverage: Major motion coverage of 35' x 30', minor motion coverage of 20' x 15'.
- Voltage Compatibility: Dual voltage operation (120/277 VAC) and compatible with 347 VAC models. Works with all electronic and PL lamp ballasts.
- Safety Features: No leakage to load in the off mode; sensor is safety grounded.
- Indicator: LED indicates occupancy detection.
- Compatibility: Fits decorator wall plates.
- Compliance: BAA/TAA-compliant models are available.
- Certifications: UL and cUL listed.
- Warranty: Five-year warranty.
Applications
The WS-250 is versatile for various settings such as offices, conference rooms, break rooms, and utility rooms. It can contribute to energy savings of up to 60% by ensuring lights are not left on in unoccupied spaces. With competitive pricing and low installation costs, the energy savings typically result in payback periods of less than two years.

Coverage Pattern
The coverage pattern illustrates the sensor's detection range. For optimal performance, Wattstopper recommends using this sensor in spaces no larger than 15' x 12'.
Diagram Description: A polar diagram showing the sensor's detection field. The outer ring represents major motion coverage up to 35 feet (10.6m), and an inner ring represents minor motion coverage up to 20 feet (6.1m). A small circle at 4 feet (1.2m) indicates the closest detection range.
