Pure Evoke C-D4 with Bluetooth

Thank you for choosing the Evoke C-D4 with Bluetooth. This manual will guide you through setup and operation, explaining how to make the most of its features. For additional help, visit support.pure.com.

Safety Information ⚠️

Please familiarise yourself with all safety information and instructions before use. Include all documents when passing the radio on to others.

  1. The apparatus must not be exposed to dripping or splashing. Do not place liquid-filled objects, such as vases, on the apparatus. If liquid is spilled, switch off at the mains immediately, disconnect the plug, and contact your dealer. Never touch the plug or radio with wet hands. Never pull the power cable when disconnecting the adapter.
  2. Batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat (sunshine, fire, etc.).
  3. Using the radio in high humidity or temperatures may cause condensation and damage. Use only in moderate climates.
  4. Avoid extreme temperatures. Keep away from heat sources like radiators or fires. Do not place naked flame sources (e.g., candles) on the apparatus.
  5. The mains power adapter is the disconnect device and must remain accessible. Use only the supplied adapter and connect it to an easily accessible socket near the radio.
  6. Use only the Pure-supplied power supply (model GPE248-180133-Z).
  7. Ensure the available supply voltage matches the radio's operational voltage.
  8. Disconnect the radio from the power supply if not using it for an extended period (e.g., holiday).
  9. Always unplug the radio before cleaning. Do not use abrasive pads or cleaning solutions as they may damage the surface.
  10. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove screws; there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.

CAUTION: Danger of explosion if the remote control battery is replaced incorrectly. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

WARNING: DO NOT INGEST BATTERY, CHEMICAL BURN HAZARD. The remote control contains a coin/button cell battery. If swallowed, it can cause severe internal burns in 2 hours and lead to death. Keep batteries away from children. If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using the product and keep it away from children. If batteries are suspected to have been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.

Introduction

Front Panel

Volume Dial: Adjust and mute volume (see page 7).

Select Dial: Turn and press to browse and select radio stations (see page 9), select and adjust menu options.

Front Panel Buttons: Includes controls for Source, Presets, Alarm, Menu, and Standby (⏻).

CD Playback Controls: Buttons for play/pause (▶️/⏸️), previous track (⏮️), next track (⏭️), rewind (⏪), fast forward (⏩), and stop (⏹️).

Remote Control Sensor: Receives signals from the remote control.

Rear Connectors

3.5 mm stereo headphone socket: For connecting headphones.

Aux In: Analogue stereo input for iPod, MP3 player, etc.

18V DC 1.33A: Connect to the supplied mains adapter only.

Remote Control

Presets 1-4+: Store up to 10 digital and 10 FM radio preset stations.

Mute: Press to mute volume.

Back: Press to go back to the previous screen.

Random: Press to shuffle tracks on a CD.

Previous track: Press to play the previous track.

Play/Pause track: Press to play or pause the track.

Standby: Switch the radio between on and standby (⏻).

Source: Press to select digital radio, FM radio, Bluetooth, auxiliary input, or CD.

Menu: Access setup options (see page 16).

Volume up: Press to increase volume (?).

Select buttons: Press to select and confirm menu options.

Volume down: Press to reduce volume (?).

Stop: Press to stop the CD (⏹️).

Repeat: Press to repeat the current track or CD.

Skip track: Press to skip to the next track (⏭️).

Display

The display shows various information:

  1. Volume indicator.
  2. AM/PM indicator.
  3. Current time.
  4. Source indicator (DAB, FM, AUX, CD).
  5. Stereo indicator.
  6. MP3/WMA support indicator.
  7. CD repeat icons (repeat track, repeat folder ?, repeat all).
  8. Alarm (⏰), sleep (?), and snooze indicators.
  9. Radio station name or CD track number/elapsed time.
  10. Date, scrolling text, settings, and station information, or MP3 file name.

Getting Started

Quick Start

  1. Fit the correct pin connector to the supplied mains power adapter.
  2. Unclip the aerial and extend it fully. Insert the mains adapter jack into the rear socket of the radio and plug the adapter into the mains supply.
  3. Wait for the radio to complete an Autotune. It will scan for and find available digital stations, then start playing one.

Features

Digital Radio

Changing Stations: Use the Select dial on the front panel or the < or > buttons on the remote to browse and select stations. Press Select to change.

Settings: Access options via the Menu button, including Autotune, Station Order (Alphanumeric, Ensemble), Manual Tuning, and Dynamic Range Control (DRC).

FM Radio

Seek Tuning: Use the Select dial or < / > buttons to seek the next/previous strong FM station.

Manual Tuning: Use the Select dial or < / > buttons to step up/down by 0.05 MHz.

Settings: Options include FM stereo/mono reception and Scan Setting (All Stations, Strong Station).

CD Player

Inserting a CD: Insert label-side up. The device will read and play automatically.

Playback Controls: Use front panel or remote buttons for Play/Pause (▶️/⏸️), Previous (⏮️), Next (⏭️), Rewind (⏪), Fast Forward (⏩), Stop (⏹️).

Shuffling Tracks: Enable/disable 'CD: Random' via the Menu > CD Menu.

Repeating Tracks: Set 'CD: Repeat' for One, All, Off, or Folder ? via the Menu > CD Menu.

Ejecting a CD: Press the ⏏️ button.

Streaming using Bluetooth

Stream audio from your phone or tablet.

Pairing: Press Source to switch to Bluetooth. Enable Bluetooth on your mobile device, select 'Evoke C-D4' from available devices. Enter '0000' if prompted. The display will show 'BT connected'.

Disconnecting: Move the device out of range or disconnect from your mobile device's Bluetooth settings.

Auxiliary Input

Play audio from external devices via the Aux In socket.

Connecting: Use a suitable cable to connect your device's line out or headphone socket to the Evoke's Aux In.

Selecting: Press the Source button to switch to AUX. Select content on your auxiliary device.

Alarms and Timers

Setting an Alarm

Evoke has two alarms. Set alarm On/Off, time, source (DAB, FM, Tone, CD), station, repeat (Once, Daily, Weekdays, Weekends), and volume. Save the alarm; an icon (⏰) will appear.

Cancelling a Sounding Alarm

Press any button except the Select dial. Pressing Standby (⏻) will put the Evoke into standby.

Snoozing a Sounding Alarm

Press the Select dial. The display shows the snooze icon (?) and a countdown. Default snooze is 10 minutes.

Setting the Sleep Timer

Set a timer for Evoke to switch to standby. Access via Menu > Sleep timer. Duration can be set from 15 to 60 minutes.

Options and Settings

Digital Radio Settings

Autotune: Scan for new stations and remove inactive ones (Menu > DAB Menu > Autotune).

Station Order: Change display order to Alphanumeric or Ensemble (Menu > DAB Menu > Station Order).

Manual Tuning: Tune to specific DAB Band III channels (Menu > DAB Menu > Manual Tune).

Dynamic Range Control (DRC): Adjust quiet sounds for noisy environments (DRC High, Low, Off) (Menu > DAB Menu > DRC).

Trim: Remove inactive stations from the list (Menu > DAB Menu > Trim > Yes).

FM Radio Settings

FM Stereo Option: Choose between 'Stereo Allowed' or 'Forced Mono' for clearer reception (Menu > FM Menu > Audio Setting).

FM Scanning Mode: Set to stop at the next available station ('All Stations') or a strong signal ('Strong Station') (Menu > FM Menu > Scan Setting).

System Settings

Factory Reset: Resets all presets, stations, alarms, and options to default. Select 'Yes' to confirm (Menu > Settings > Factory reset).

Firmware Version: Display current firmware (Menu > Settings > Firmware).

Language: Select menu language (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish) (Menu > Settings > Language).

Updating Evoke's Firmware

Register your product at account.pure.com for update notifications or visit http://support.pure.com.

Display Brightness

Adjust display brightness for 'Normal Mode' (on) or 'Standby Mode' (Menu > Brightness).

Time and Date

Synchronization: Automatically set via DAB or FM signal (Menu > Date/Time Set > DAB, FM, or Both).

Manual Setting: Set time and date manually if automatic update fails (Menu > Date/Time Set > Manual).

Time Format: Choose between 12-hour or 24-hour format (Menu > Time Mode).

Equalisation Settings

Predefined EQ: Select from Flat, Rock, Pop, Classic, Jazz, News (Menu > Set EQ).

Custom EQ: Adjust Bass and Treble levels (-5 to 5) (Menu > Set EQ > Custom).

Loudness: Enhance audio experience at low volumes (On/Off) (Menu > Set EQ > Custom > Loudness).

Room EQ: Two settings (EQ1 for detailed audio, EQ2 for softer response) to optimize for room acoustics (Menu > Room EQ).
