Lezyne GPS Cycling Computers

Engineered Design for Modern Cyclists

The Evolution of Cycling and Connectivity

The bicycle, a simple human-powered vehicle for transport, has evolved significantly over centuries. While its core purpose remains, advancements in gears, aerodynamics, and materials have transformed it into a work of art. Today, millions rely on bicycles for commuting, fitness, pleasure, and competition. Simultaneously, the digital age has deeply integrated connectivity into our lives, with smartphones and the internet becoming essential for up-to-the-minute information.

In cycling, this digital evolution is reflected in advanced GPS computers. These devices go beyond basic ride data, offering real-time display of power output, speed, distance, heart rate, and more, all through GPS and wireless technologies. They are now indispensable tools for cyclists.

Lezyne aims to blend the simplicity and elegance of cycling with the connectivity of the modern world through its GPS computer line.

How Lezyne GPS Works

Diagram: A flowchart illustrating the Lezyne GPS ecosystem. It shows a Lezyne GPS computer connecting via Bluetooth Smart to a smartphone (iPhone/Android) or via USB to a computer (Mac/Windows OS). The smartphone can then connect to the GPS Root Cloud Server via the GPS Ally app. The computer connects to the GPS Root Cloud Server via the GPS Root website. The diagram also shows GPS signal reception from satellites. External ride sensors (Power, Heart Rate, Cadence/Speed) connect via Bluetooth Smart or ANT+.

Lezyne GPS computers integrate seamlessly into a connected ecosystem. Data can be uploaded directly from the device to a computer via USB for analysis on the GPS Root website, or wirelessly to a smartphone app via Bluetooth Smart. The GPS Root website serves as a central hub for organizing and analyzing ride data, while the GPS Ally app provides on-the-go access and notifications. External sensors like heart rate monitors, cadence sensors, and power meters can connect wirelessly to compatible GPS units.

GPS Mounts

Lezyne GPS computers are designed to be securely mounted on bicycles for optimal viewing and performance.

Standard GPS Mount

Image: Components of the Standard GPS Mount, including o-rings, a rubber shim, and the X-Lock composite mounting bracket.

Each GPS unit comes with a Standard GPS Mount. This includes two sets of o-rings (in two diameters), a backup o-ring for each size, a rubber shim, and an X-Lock composite mounting bracket. The mount is engineered to attach at any 90° angle and allows the computer to be mounted forward. Durable o-rings secure it to the bar, and the patent-pending X-Lock design prevents the computer from being dislodged.

Image: A Lezyne Power GPS computer being securely attached to the Standard GPS Mount by pressing down at a 45° angle and rotating it forward until it locks.

The X-Lock securely fastens the GPS computer to the mount. The X-Lock is a secure and reliable mounting feature integrated into both the Standard and Forward GPS Mounts, ensuring the computer stays in place even over rough terrain.

Forward Bar GPS Mount

Image: The Forward Bar GPS Mount components, showing a stiff composite matrix construction with X-Lock, a hinged handlebar mount with rubber shim and stainless steel bolt.

The Forward Bar GPS Mount (available separately) offers a sleek, lightweight design that positions the GPS computer in front of the stem for better visibility and improved aerodynamics. It features a stiff and durable composite matrix construction with a secure X-Lock computer mount and a hinged handlebar mount with an integrated rubber shim.

GPS Development: Making the Impossible Possible

The development of Lezyne GPS computers was an extensive two-year process driven by an in-house R&D team aiming to redefine the cycling GPS category. The goal was to build computers from the ground up, a task described by the team as "making the impossible possible."

Every component was designed and generated from scratch. Prototype software was developed for device communication, algorithms were implemented, custom antennas were built, and screen elements were meticulously calculated. Over 35 body revisions were made to accommodate evolving circuit board designs. Proprietary code enabled simultaneous pairing with apps, power meters, and heart rate monitors.

The challenges faced by electrical, mechanical, software, and graphic engineers were immense, compounded by tens of thousands of miles spent testing. Milestones, such as the first satellite communication or the first text message notification, were critical. The final product had to embody the distinct look and feel of a Lezyne product.

This marks the arrival of the next generation of GPS technology.

This is Lezyne. This is Engineered Design.
