What you can do with the MP3 File Manager
Transfer MP3 audio files to your Network Walkman in MP3 format. The SonicStage software converts MP3 audio files into ATRAC3plus format.
The MP3 File Manager software is pre-installed on the Network Walkman. However, ensure SonicStage software from the supplied CD-ROM is installed on your computer first. Without SonicStage, the computer may not recognize the Network Walkman. If SonicStage is not installed, install the driver file from the Sony customer service website: http://www.sony.com/walkmansupport.
System requirements
- OS: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows 98 Second Edition. (Simplified Chinese OS for Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows Millennium Edition are not supported.)
- CPU: Pentium II 400 MHz or higher
- RAM: 64 MB or more
- HDD: 5MB or more
- Display: 16-bit color or higher, 800x600 dots or better
- USB port: Supports USB (Previously called USB1.1)
On language support
Language display depends on the installed OS. Ensure your OS is compatible with the desired language for best results.
- Not all languages are guaranteed to display properly.
- User-created and some special characters may not be displayed.
Transferring MP3 audio files from the computer to your Network Walkman
- Connect your Network Walkman to your computer using the supplied dedicated USB cable. Connect the small end to the Network Walkman's USB jack and the large end to a computer USB port. "CONNECT" will appear on the Network Walkman display.
- On your computer, click [My Computer] - [removable disk:]*. (*[Network Walkman] for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004/Windows XP Media Center Edition/Windows XP Professional/ Windows XP Home Edition)
- Click the [Esys] folder to open it.
- Double-click [MP3FileManager.exe] to launch the application.
- Drag and drop MP3 audio files or folders to the MP3 File Manager screen to transfer them to your Network Walkman.
Connection Diagram: A dedicated USB cable connects the Network Walkman to a USB port on the computer. The Network Walkman has a USB jack, and an ACCESS lamp indicates activity.
Notes
- Close the Network Walkman's case cover after transferring files to prevent liquid entry.
- Do not disconnect the USB cable or remove the Network Walkman while the MP3 File Manager software is running, as operation is not guaranteed.
- The ACCESS lamp blinks when the Network Walkman is accessing the computer. Do not disconnect the USB cable or remove the Network Walkman while the ACCESS lamp is blinking to avoid data corruption.
- Install Service Pack 3 or later for Windows 2000.
- The Network Walkman prioritizes the display of ID3 Tag information (versions 1.0/1.1/2.2/2.3/2.4 supported).
- Connection via a USB hub or extension cable is not guaranteed; connect directly to the computer.
- Some USB devices may interfere with the Network Walkman's operation.
- Control buttons on the Network Walkman are disabled when connected to a computer.
- Stored data can be viewed using Windows Explorer when the Network Walkman is connected.
- MP3 audio files must have a sampling frequency rate of 44.1 kHz and a bit rate of 8-320 kbps to be compatible with the MP3 File Manager software.
If the MP3 File Manager software is accidentally erased
Restore the software by downloading it from the Sony customer service website: http://www.sony.com/walkmansupport.
Display of MP3 File Manager
The MP3 File Manager interface includes:
- 1. Album list: Double-click to show or hide the track list.
- 2. Track list: Displays individual tracks within an album.
- 3. Delete button: Click to erase selected albums or tracks.
- 4. Delete All button: Click to erase all albums and tracks.
- 5. Exit button: Click to close the MP3 File Manager.
- 6. Blue line: Indicates the currently selected album or track. Multiple selections can be made using CTRL or Shift keys.
Note: Audio files transferred using SonicStage are not displayed in MP3 File Manager, and vice versa.
Erasing audio file
- Open the MP3 File Manager.
- Select the title (track or album) to erase.
- Click the Delete button.
Tip: Multiple albums or tracks can be selected simultaneously using CTRL or Shift keys, but albums and tracks cannot be selected together.
Ordering audio file
- Open the MP3 File Manager.
- Select the title (track or album) to move.
- Drag and drop to reposition the file or album.
