Installation Instructions for Adjustable Gates

Important Information

Please read all instructions carefully before starting.

Note: During installation, snug screws in position (do not tighten until the gate is completely hung) then tighten all screws securely.

Parts Identification

Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates the primary components of the adjustable gate system. It shows the HINGE-SIDE FRAME (A) which attaches to one jamb, the LOCK-SIDE STRIKER (B) which attaches to the opposite jamb, the CENTER-SECTION FRAME (C) which connects the two side frames, and the LOCK-SIDE FRAME (D) which is part of the gate itself.

  • HINGE-SIDE FRAME (A): The frame component that connects to the hinge side of the installation jamb.
  • LOCK-SIDE STRIKER (B): The component mounted on the opposite jamb where the gate will lock.
  • CENTER-SECTION FRAME (C): The central structural element of the gate.
  • LOCK-SIDE FRAME (D): The frame on the side of the gate that engages with the lock striker for security.

Installation Steps

  1. Center the hinge side frame (A) against the jamb at the desired location and install Phillips head screws in the hinges.
  2. Position the lock-side striker (B) at the same elevation on the opposite jamb and install the top Phillips head screw only.
  3. Attach the center section frame (C) to the hinge side frame (A).
  4. Attach the lock side frame (D) to the center section frame (C).
  5. Adjust the center section frame (C) evenly between the two side frames (A) and (D). Leave approximately 1/4 inch (6 mm) clearance between the lock side frame (D) and the lock side striker (B).
  6. Insert tamper-resistant one-way screws into the center section frame (C). Do not tighten fully at this stage.
  7. Close the gate and align it against the lock side striker (B). Hold the bottom of the lock side striker (B) in place, open the gate, and insert the remaining Phillips head screws into the lock side striker (B).
  8. Tighten all screws securely.

Installation Options and Surface Preparation

This gate can be installed either inside the casing of the door or outside the door. It is designed to pivot out of the way when not in use.

The gate can be mounted on the left or right side. To mount on the opposite side, simply turn the gate upside down.

Mounting Scenarios

Diagram Description: Two diagrams illustrate the gate's functionality. The "Not in use" diagram shows the gate folded and positioned out of the way. The "In use" diagram shows the gate extended and secured, blocking an opening.

Mounting Surface Preparation Steps:

  1. Position the folded gate against the doorframe where you intend to mount it. The gate can be propped up on blocks if necessary.
  2. Mark the mounting surface through the pilot holes in the hinge bar using a pen or pencil.
  3. Drill appropriate size holes in the mounting surface based on your material.

Mounting Material Specifics:

  • For Wood: Use the provided 5/16 inch x 3 inch one-way lag screws.
  • For Steel: Drill and tap for 5/16 inch x 1 inch bolts.
  • For Brick or Concrete: Use the provided 5/16 inch x 3 inch one-way lag screws.

Final Gate Mounting:

  1. Mount the gate by inserting the screws through the hinge bar.
  2. Stretch the gate across the opening. Align the locking bar on the opposite side so that the padlock hole in the gate matches the padlock hole in the locking bar.
  3. Mark through the mounting holes of the locking bar with a pen or pencil.
  4. Drill holes and insert the screws to mount the locking bar.
  5. Pull the gate into the locking bar and insert a padlock (padlock not included).
