Determining the Operating Mode
Refer to the following scenarios to determine the appropriate operating mode:

During Travel
Router Mode
- Set the mode switch to Router and connect the hardware as shown in the diagram (A to D). For 3G/4G USB modem usage, plug the modem into the 3G/4G USB port to share the 3G/4G signal as Wi-Fi.
- Connect your device to the router's Wi-Fi. The default wireless SSID and password are on the router's label.
- Check if the Internet LED is on. If yes, proceed to step 6. If not, continue with the following steps.
- Launch a web browser, enter http://tplinkwifi.net, and create a password.
- Click Next to start the Quick Setup and follow the on-screen instructions to configure the Internet connection. Auto-Detect can help if you're unsure of your WAN connection type. You can customize your wireless network name and password during setup.
- Connect your devices to the router's Wi-Fi to enjoy the Internet. The WAN/LAN port functions as the WAN port in this mode.
At Home
Access Point Mode
- Set the mode switch to Access Point and connect the hardware as shown (A to B).
- Connect your device to the router wirelessly or via Ethernet cable. The default wireless SSID and password are on the router's label.
- Launch a web browser, enter http://tplinkwifi.net, and create a password.
- Click Next to start the Quick Setup, select Access Point, and follow the on-screen instructions. Use Smart IP if unsure of the local network type. You can customize your wireless network name and password.
- Connect your devices to the router's Wi-Fi or via Ethernet to enjoy the Internet. The WAN/LAN port functions as a LAN port in this mode.
Range Extender Mode
- Set the mode switch to AP/Rng Ext/Client and connect the hardware (A to B) near your host AP.
- Connect your device to the router wirelessly or via Ethernet. The default wireless SSID and password are on the router's label.
- Launch a web browser, enter http://tplinkwifi.net, and create a password.
- Click Next to start the Quick Setup, select Range Extender, and follow the on-screen instructions. The extended network shares the same Wi-Fi password as your host network. Use Smart IP if unsure of the local network type.
- Move the router halfway between your host AP and the Wi-Fi dead zone.
- Connect your device to the router wirelessly or via Ethernet to enjoy the Internet. The WAN/LAN port functions as a LAN port in this mode.
Client Mode
- Set the mode switch to AP/Rng Ext/Client and connect the hardware (A to B) near your host AP.
- Connect your device (smartphone, computer, or tablet) to the router wirelessly or via Ethernet. The default wireless SSID and password are on the router's label.
- Launch a web browser, enter http://tplinkwifi.net, and create a password.
- Click Next to start the Quick Setup, select Client, and follow the on-screen instructions. Use Smart IP if unsure of the local network type.
- After setup, connect your wired device (e.g., smart TV, game console, media player) to the router via Ethernet cable to enjoy the Internet. The WAN/LAN port functions as a LAN port in this mode.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q1. What should I do if there is no Internet access?
- If using a cable modem, unplug the Ethernet cable and restart the modem. Wait for the "Online" light to be solid, then reconnect the cable to the modem.
- In hotel rooms or business lounges, Internet access may require authentication or purchase.
- If Internet access is still unavailable, contact TP-Link technical support.
- Q2. How do I restore the router to factory settings?
- With the router powered on, use a pin to press and hold the RESET button until all LEDs turn off, then release the button. (Refer to FAQ > Q2 for reset instructions).
- Q3. What should I do if I forget the router's web management password?
- Reset the router, then create a password to log in.
- Q4. What should I do if I forget my Wi-Fi password?
- If you haven't changed the default wireless password, it's on the router's label.
- If you have changed it, log in to the router's web management and go to Wireless 2.4GHz (or Wireless 5GHz) > Wireless Security to retrieve or reset your password.
- Q5. What should I do if my wireless signal is unstable or too weak?
- Adjust your wireless channel to a different one.
- Choose a location with fewer obstacles between the travel router and the host AP. An open hallway or spacious location is ideal.
- Move the router to a new location, away from Bluetooth devices and other home electronic devices like cordless phones, microwaves, and baby monitors, to minimize signal interference.
- In Range Extender mode, the ideal placement is halfway between your host AP and the Wi-Fi dead zone. If not possible, move the router closer to your host AP for stable performance.

- Do not attempt to disassemble, repair, or modify the device. Contact TP-Link for service.

- Do not use chargers other than those recommended.
