Longacre Racing AccuTech Stepper Motor Tachometer Filter Wiring
Wiring Diagram Overview
This document details the wiring connections for the Longacre Racing AccuTech Stepper Motor Tachometer Filter, ensuring accurate RPM readings from your engine. The system connects the tachometer gauge to the engine's ignition system and power source, utilizing components such as the EMS CDI unit, ignition coil, and spark plug.
Connection Points:
- RPM Signal Input: A Brown / Red Wire connects from the engine's RPM signal source to the meter's input terminal.
- Ground Connection: A Black / Ground Wire connects to the engine chassis or the battery's negative pole.
- RPM Signal Source: A Brown / RPM Wire captures the RPM signal by connecting to the positive terminal of the ignition coil.
- Ignition Coil: The ignition coil receives power and is triggered by the EMS CDI unit. The Brown/RPM wire connects to the Ignition coil positive terminal.
- Spark Plug System: The ignition coil sends high voltage via a Spark plug wire to the Spark plug, secured by a Spark plug cap.
- Engine Rotation Sensing: A Pick up sensor, typically mounted near the Flywheel, detects engine rotation and transmits data to the EMS CDI unit.
- EMS CDI: The Engine Management System / Capacitor Discharge Ignition unit processes engine signals and controls ignition.
- Tachometer: The gauge displaying engine RPM, receiving its signal via the Brown/Red wire.
NOTE
Follow the provided instructions when connecting the RPM wire. Connecting the red and brown wires in parallel may damage the instrument.
CAUTION
If the meter needle is unstable at idle RPM, connect the signal filter as shown in the diagram. To resolve this, use a screwdriver to gently adjust the setting clockwise or counter-clockwise until the meter needle stabilizes.
