Wiring Diagram
The diagram shows the pinout for the 20-pin connector, detailing inputs like ACC-in, RR-in, RL-in, FL-in, FR-in, and outputs like Rem-out, FL+out, FL-out, FR+out, FR-out, RL+out, RL-out, RR+out, RR-out.
Note: For older car stereos, if the Auto-Turn-On function doesn't work, connect "ACC-IN" to ACC/Amp Remote or another +12V source. Then select "REMOTE TURN ON" on the remote switch.
Speaker Impedance & Power Wire Info
A642DSP: CH 1/2 and 3/4 at 4 ohm stereo | CH 5 at 4/2 ohm mono.
Amplifier Mounting
Attention: Disconnect the negative battery terminal before wiring.
- Select a secure mounting location, ensuring no fuel tanks, brake lines, or wiring harnesses are behind or below the mounting surface.
- Ensure at least 5cm clearance on all sides and the top for heatsink.
- Protect the unit from direct sunlight, humidity, water, and oil.
- Use the unit as a template to mark mounting holes. Drill pilot holes with a 2.5mm drill bit.
- Important: Do not directly contact the amplifier heatsink or bottom panel to the vehicle metal panel to avoid ground loops and audible hum.
Wire Routing
Main Power Wires: Use a minimum 16 mm² OFC copper or 20 mm² aluminum cable for +12V and ground wires. Run the +12V cable directly from the battery, installing a main fuse holder within the first 30 cm. Ensure the ground cable is as short as possible and has the same cross-section as the positive cable. The ground contact point must be clean and solid.
Optional Plug'N'Play Wire Harness: AXTON offers vehicle-specific or universal harnesses for easier installation. Ensure you know your headunit's security code before starting. Connect the harness to the amp and headunit, then reinstall the headunit.
Commissioning: Reconnect the battery ground terminal. The green status LED should illuminate. If not, or if the red "Protect" LED lights up, check all installation and wiring steps.
App Installation A642DSP
For Android phones: Find the current Android App on the A642DSP product page on www.axton.de. Install A642DSP_V1.0.apk. Do not pair in Bluetooth settings. Turn on Bluetooth and ensure Location is permitted. Open the A642DSP app and press "Connect".
For iOS phones: Go to the Apple AppStore, search for "A642DSP" and install the app. Turn on Bluetooth. Do not pair in Bluetooth settings. Open the app and press "Connect".
Download Links: QR codes are provided for downloading the app from the Apple AppStore or the Axton homepage.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming
Open smartphone Bluetooth settings, search for "BT Audio", press "connect", and enter code "1234". When playing music, the amplifier automatically mutes the car stereo signal. Note: You will not hear car stereo warnings or navigation audio during BT playback.
Functions
Connect to Smart Mobile: Start the app and press "Connect". The app downloads current settings.
Save to Phone: Save settings to your smartphone by pressing "Save on Phone", entering a filename, and confirming with "OK".
Save to AMP: Transfer settings to the amplifier by pressing "Save to Amplifier" and selecting a favorite slot. Do not switch off the amplifier during saving.
Load: Load saved setups from your smartphone. Press "Save to Amplifier" to permanently save the loaded setup.
Favorites: Press the star icon ★ to select one of five favorite presets.
EQ Settings
Adjust sound according to vehicle acoustics using 10-band or 31-band parametric EQ. Swipe left/right to access all bands. Adjust frequency (f0) and Q factor using pop-up windows or +/- buttons. The Q factor determines the bandwidth of the EQ filter.
Example 1: f0 = 1000 Hz, Q = 1 (bandwidth 1000 Hz)
Example 2: f0 = 1000 Hz, Q = 5 (bandwidth 200 Hz)
Q factors range from 0.3 to 9.9.
Independent EQ settings can be applied to front, rear, and subwoofer channels, or all channels together using the "ALL" button.
Press "Reset" to reset all settings to "0". To try presets without saving, exit the app without saving and restart it.
Dynamic Bass
The "Bass" slider in the EQ menu enhances bass performance without overloading speakers. Level 0 has no effect. Levels 1-20 increase bass and activate a subsonic filter to protect speakers from deep frequencies.
Gain Phase
Adjust sound level, mute, and phase for each channel. Use the icons above and below the speaker icons. Phase settings are adjusted via icons in the top line (left to right: Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right, Subwoofer). Mute settings are in the bottom line.
Save settings to the amplifier or smartphone.
Noise Gate
Located in the upper right corner of the GAIN menu, the Noise Gate function reduces background noise from the head unit. Increase the level by sliding left until noise is minimized.
Crossover
Assign frequency bands to speakers for their recommended operating range. Adjust high-pass filter (HPF) and low-pass filter (LPF) break frequencies and slopes. The blue line shows the filter slope. "Bypass" means the signal is unfiltered. Settings apply to preamp outputs as well.
Save settings to the amplifier or smartphone.
Time Alignment
Apply time delay to speaker signals to simulate an ideal listening position. Measure the distance from your listening position to each speaker. The furthest speaker serves as the reference (set to 0). Calculate delays for other speakers based on this reference.
Example Calculation:
- Listening position to Front Left (FL): 0.80 m
- Listening position to Front Right (FR): 1.40 m
- Listening position to Rear Left (RL): 0.50 m
- Listening position to Rear Right (RR): 1.30 m
- Listening position to Subwoofer (SubW): 2.00 m
- FL delay = SubW - FL = 2.00 - 0.80 = 1.20 m
- FR delay = SubW - FR = 2.00 - 1.40 = 0.60 m
- RL delay = SubW - RL = 2.00 - 0.50 = 1.50 m
- RR delay = SubW - RR = 2.00 - 1.30 = 0.70 m
- SubW delay remains 0.
