Canon MAXIFY GX7000/GX6000 Series: Getting Started
Introduction
This guide provides instructions for setting up your Canon MAXIFY GX7000 or GX6000 series printer. Please read the Safety and Important Information addendum first.
Setting Up the Printer
For the most up-to-date setup instructions, visit ij.start.canon or scan the QR code with your mobile device.
If you do not have an internet connection, follow the instructions below:

2. Removing Packing Materials
- Remove and dispose of any packing materials and orange tape. Using the printer with orange tape or packing material still attached may cause malfunction.
- Open the scanning unit/cover, remove and dispose of the orange tape and protective material inside.
- Close the scanning unit/cover. Caution: Watch your fingers.
3. Turning on the Printer
- Connect the power cord.
- Open the operation panel and press the ON button.
- Select your language and tap Yes.
- If the following screen appears (for GX7000), tap your country or region to select.
- Set the date and time, then tap OK.
- Tap OK to start print setup. You can continue setup by referring to the manual.
4. Pouring Ink
Important: This product requires careful handling of ink. Ink may splatter when the ink tanks are filled. If ink gets on clothes or belongings, it may not come off.
- Open the scanning unit/cover.
- Open the ink tank cover and tank cap on the left of the printer.
- Hold the ink bottle upright and gently twist the bottle cap to remove.
- Align the nozzle of the ink bottle with the inlet.
- Slowly stand the ink bottle upside down and push down to pour the ink. If the ink does not pour, gently remove and try again.
- Gently remove the ink bottle from the inlet. Be careful not to spill the ink.
- Replace the tank cap securely.
- Close the ink tank cover securely.
- Repeat steps 2 through 8 to pour all ink into the corresponding ink tanks on the right.
5. Loading Paper
- Tap OK to start alignment. Prepare A4 or Letter sized plain paper. You can perform this later if you do not have paper.
- Remove the cassette from the printer. (For GX7000, pull out Cassette 1 (upper)).
- Slide apart the paper guides. Slide the right paper guide to the right edge. Align the front paper guide with the Letter or A4 mark.
- Load Letter or A4 sized plain paper. Place the paper against the front paper guide and align the right paper guide to the width of the paper.
- Replace the cassette.
- Pull out the paper output tray.
- Tap OK.
- Tap Next. Follow on-screen instructions for setup, including information sharing preferences. Refer to "Sending Information To Canon" in Safety and Important Information.
- Check that the following screen appears. If you will use the printer without connecting any other devices, setup is now complete.
Connecting to a Device
6-a. Connecting to a Computer
If you are using multiple computers, perform these steps on each computer.
- Access the Canon website from your computer: https://ij.start.canon
- Select Set Up.
- Enter your printer's model name and click Go.
- Click Start.
- Click (B) Connecting to a Computer/Smartphone. (Steps are for Windows users.)
- Click Download.
- Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
- To connect to a smartphone, see "6-b. Connecting to a Smartphone". For GX7000 fax setup, see "Using Fax Function".
6-b. Connecting to a Smartphone
If you are using multiple smartphones, perform these steps on each smartphone.
- Install the "Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY" app on your smartphone. Search for "Canon PRINT" in the App Store or Google Play, or access the Canon website to download the app.
- Open your smartphone's Wi-Fi settings. Check that the network name (SSID) that starts with "Canon_ij_" appears.
- Tap the network name (SSID) that starts with "Canon_ij_".
- Open the installed app and follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.
Once your printer is added, you can print from your smartphone. For printing photos, see "Loading Paper". For GX7000 fax setup, see "Using Fax Function".
Loading Paper
- Open the rear tray cover and extend the paper support.
- Slide the right-hand side paper guide to the far right.
- Load several sheets of paper with the print side facing up and slide the side paper guide against the edge of the paper stack.
GX7000 Using Fax Function
The fax function of your printer requires setup. Refer to the FAX Setup Guide.
- Access the FAX Setup Guide website: https://ij.start.canon
- Click See Recommended Functions.
- Click Functions/Services.
- Click Setting Up the FAX.
Transporting Your Printer
When relocating the printer, check the following. Refer to the Online Manual for details.
- Check that the ink valve lever is closed.
- Handle with care. Ensure the box remains flat and is not turned upside down or on its side, as the printer may be damaged and ink may leak.
- If a shipping agent is handling transport, mark the box "THIS SIDE UP" to keep the printer with its bottom facing down. Also mark with "FRAGILE" or "HANDLE WITH CARE".
- Pack the printer in a plastic bag in case ink leaks.
- Pack the printer in a sturdy box with its bottom facing down, using sufficient protective material for safe transport.
- Do not tilt the printer, as ink may leak.
