Introduction to the Omnipod 5 System
The Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System is designed for individuals with type 1 diabetes aged two and older. This system delivers U-100 insulin subcutaneously and is intended to work with compatible Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs).
In its Automated Mode, the Omnipod 5 System assists users in achieving glycemic targets set by their healthcare providers. It intelligently modulates insulin delivery—increasing, decreasing, or suspending it—based on predefined thresholds and sensor glucose values to maintain blood glucose within a target range, thereby reducing glucose variability. This reduction aims to decrease the frequency, severity, and duration of hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic events.
The system also offers a Manual Mode for users who prefer to manage insulin delivery at set or manually adjusted rates. The Omnipod 5 System is intended for single-patient use and is compatible with U-100 insulins such as NovoLog®, NovoRapid®, Humalog®, and Admelog®.
