General Safety Instructions
Before Use: Read these safety instructions and the operation manual carefully. Failure to comply can result in death, serious injury, or device damage. Only users trained and certified for Ex device operation in hazardous areas should use this device. Ensure you have read and understood this operation manual.
General Compliance:
- Adhere to all instructions on the device and packaging.
- Comply with local safety regulations.
Usage Zones: This device is intended for use in Zone 1/21 and 2/22 hazardous areas, or outside of hazardous areas.
Pre-Entry Checks (Hazardous Areas): Before taking the device into a hazardous area, verify:
- Only approved accessories are connected to the device.
- There are no gaps between the two halves of the device.
- The device is undamaged.
- All labels on the device are readable.
- Use only the supplied battery or an approved replacement battery.
- Ensure the battery is not damaged.
- Ensure the battery is securely installed.
Operation in Hazardous Areas:
- Do not loosen device screws.
- Do not connect accessories.
- Do not open interface covers.
- Do not charge the device via USB-C or the 16-pin ISM interface.
- Do not open the device cover.
- Do not damage the device.
Immediate Action: If the device malfunctions, its enclosure is damaged, it is overloaded, stored improperly, or its labels become unreadable, power off the device immediately and leave the hazardous area.
Prohibitions:
- Do not modify the device's structure.
- Do not place the device in high-temperature locations.
- Do not expose the device to strong UV radiation.
- Do not bring the device near processes that generate high electric charges.
- Do not expose the device to strong acids or bases.
- Avoid contact with sharp objects on the display.
- Do not place the device near strong electromagnetic fields, such as those from induction cookers or microwaves.
Use only accessories approved by i.safe MOBILE GmbH. Do not open or repair the device yourself. Do not use the device in prohibited areas.
Specific Safety Guidelines
Medical Facilities: Power off the device in hospitals or other medical facilities. Maintain a distance of at least 15 cm between the device and pacemakers or hearing aids, as the device may interfere with medical equipment.
Driving: When using the device while driving, comply with applicable laws.
Audio: When using earphones or headsets, set the initial volume to 50% of the maximum and adjust gradually.
Charging:
- Use only the supplied i.safe PROTECTOR 2.0 USB-C cable or other i.safe MOBILE GmbH approved charging equipment.
- Charge the device within an ambient temperature range of 0°C to +45°C (+32°F to +113°F).
- Do not charge the device near flammable substances.
- USB-C or 16-pin ISM Interface Charging: Charge the device indoors only. Do not charge in dusty or humid environments.
- Third-Party USB Power Units: Ensure third-party USB power units comply with applicable national regulations and safety standards. They should provide a minimum output of 10W-15W. The device does not support USB PD fast charging. Always use the supplied i.safe PROTECTOR 2.0 USB-C cable for charging, even with third-party adapters.
- Docking Station IS-DS940.1: Refer to the manual for charging via the docking station.
Related Safety Regulations: Use of this device assumes compliance with standard safety rules, manuals, safety instructions, and certificates. In explosion hazard areas, observe the following:
- Covers: In explosion hazard areas, the covers for the 16-pin ISM interface and USB-C interface must be closed. The 12-pin docking interface does not require a cover but should be protected from dirt when not in use.
- Accessories: Approved accessories from i.safe MOBILE GmbH can be connected to the 16-pin ISM interface outside hazardous areas. In hazardous areas, the following accessories can be connected to the 16-pin ISM interface:
- IS-HS2A.1 Headset
- Remote Speaker Microphone IS-RSM3A.1
- IS-PTTB1A.1 PTT Button
- IS-HDHS1x.1 Headset used with IS-PTTB1A.1 PTT Button
- Other accessories approved by i.safe MOBILE GmbH.
IP Protection: To ensure IP protection, verify that all sealing is intact and there is no significant gap between the battery and the housing.
Charging: Use the supplied i.safe PROTECTOR 2.0 USB-C cable or other i.safe MOBILE GmbH approved accessories for charging or data connection via USB-C outside hazardous areas. Charging is permitted only within an ambient temperature range of 0°C to +45°C (+32°F to +113°F).
SIM and SD Cards: Use nano-SIM cards and microSD cards (IS-SD164.1 or compliant with certificate parameters) in the corresponding slots within hazardous areas.
Effects: Avoid exposing the device to corrosive acids or alkalis. Protect the device from high impact energy, excessive UV radiation, and high static electricity processes.
Operating Conditions:
- Ambient Temperature Range: -20 °C to +55 °C (-4 °F to +131 °F).
- Usage Zones: The device must only be used in Zone 1, 2, 21, or 22.
Defects and Damage: If the device's safety is suspected to be compromised, stop using it and remove it from the hazardous area immediately. Take measures to prevent accidental restart. This may include situations like device malfunction, housing damage, overload, improper storage, or unreadable labels. For devices showing errors or suspected errors, it is recommended to return them to i.safe MOBILE GmbH for inspection.
Battery Information
The battery contains flammable materials. Improper handling can lead to ignition, smoke, or explosion, posing a risk of death or serious injury.
Battery Handling Precautions:
- Replace the battery after 2 years of daily use, or after approximately 500 charge cycles, or when the operating time is significantly reduced.
- Do not use the battery if it exhibits obvious abnormalities such as unusual odor, heat, discoloration, or deformation.
- Do not touch a leaking battery; do not use it.
- Do not expose the battery to open flames, heat sources, or high temperatures (above 80 °C / 176 °F).
- Do not use the battery in areas where static electricity exceeding 100V is generated.
- Do not immerse the battery in water, beverages, or other liquids.
- Do not place the battery in or near microwave ovens or other cooking appliances.
- Do not use the battery with devices other than its intended purpose.
- Do not short-circuit the battery.
- Do not subject the battery to excessive impact.
- Do not puncture or hammer the battery.
- Do not disassemble the battery.
- When transporting the battery, pack it securely in a case or box.
- Do not charge the battery near flammable materials.
- Use only charging equipment approved by i.safe MOBILE GmbH for battery charging.
- Charge the battery within the ambient temperature range of 0°C to +45°C (+32°F to +113°F).
- USB-C or 16-pin ISM Interface Charging: Charge the battery only in a dry indoor environment. Do not charge the battery in dusty or humid environments.
- For long-term non-use, remove the battery from the device. Charge the battery to approximately 50%-70% every 3-6 months to prevent deep discharge.
- Store the battery in a cool, dry place to maintain its function.
- Do not store the battery with metal objects.
- Do not dispose of the battery with household waste.
- Recycle the battery in accordance with local regulations and standards.
SAR Information
SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) Certification Information: The SAR limit for the torso is 2.0W/kg at 15mm, and 4.0W/kg for limbs at 0mm. This device was tested to these SAR limits. The highest limb SAR reported during product certification was 1.581W/kg. This device was tested for typical body-worn operations with the back of the mobile phone held 15mm from the body. When using accessories such as belt clips or holsters, ensure they do not contain metal parts. Using accessories that do not meet these requirements may not comply with RF exposure requirements and should be avoided.
Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) in Japan: This device complies with the technical standards for radio wave absorption by the human body and international guidelines for radio wave protection set by Japan. When using the tablet near the body, use carrying cases or other accessories to maintain a distance of at least 15mm from the body, and ensure no metal objects are placed between the tablet and the body.
Wi-Fi Warnings
Frequency Band: 5150 - 5250 MHz:
- Indoor use: Indoors only. Installation/use in road vehicles and trains is prohibited.
- Outdoor use: For outdoor use, the device must be fixed to equipment, vehicle exteriors, fixed infrastructure, or fixed outdoor antennas. Use with Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) is limited to the 5170-5250MHz band.
Frequency Band: 5250 - 5350 MHz:
- Indoor use: Indoors only. Installation/use in road vehicles, trains, and aircraft is prohibited.
- Outdoor use is not permitted. Use of WAS/RLAN on large aircraft (excluding multi-engine helicopters) is permitted until December 31, 2028.
Frequency Band: 5470 - 5725 MHz:
- Installation/use in road vehicles, trains, aircraft, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) is not permitted.
- WAS/RLAN installation/operation on large aircraft (excluding multi-engine helicopters) in the 5600 - 5650 MHz band is permitted until December 31, 2028.
Sound Pressure Warning: When using earphones or headsets:
- Initially, set the device volume to 50% of the maximum volume.
- Then, gradually adjust the volume.
