First, You'll Need...
To begin the setup process, ensure you have the following:
- An active Internet connection.
- A computer with Wi-Fi capability (not currently connected to an active wireless network).
- A PoE switch, router, or injector (802.3af PoE injector).
- A router configured to act as your DHCP Server.
Get Connected
Diagram Description: Illustrates the physical connections. A Cisco Business PoE Router is shown connected to a Cisco Business PoE Switch. The Cisco Business 240AC Access Point is then connected to a LAN port on the PoE Switch using an Ethernet cable.
Preparing Your Product
- Connect your access point via an Ethernet cable (provided) to a PoE LAN port on your router or switch.
- If setting up a new network, the device will begin its initial boot-up process. The Status LED will cycle through green, amber, and red. This is normal and may take up to 6 minutes. The device is ready when the LED is consistently blinking green or solid green.
- To add to an existing wireless network: Allow the access point to boot up. It will automatically update its firmware and configuration to match the existing network. This process can take ten minutes or more, during which the LED will cycle through green, amber, and red. Once the LED is blinking green or solid green, the setup is complete, and the AP has joined the network.
Get Configured
Step 1: Connect
Via Wireless (Web UI)
- Search for the wireless SSID named "CiscoBusiness-Setup".
- Connect to this SSID using the default passphrase "cisco123".
Via App
Download the Cisco Business app to simplify setup and monitoring. Follow the "Set up my network" steps within the app after downloading it from the App Store or Google Play.
Step 2: Access via Wireless (Web UI)
- Launch a web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
- In the address bar, type
http://ciscobusiness.cisco
and press Enter. - Click "Start" on the Cisco Business Wireless Access Point page to launch the Setup Wizard.
- Create a username and password for your access point.
- Follow the Setup Wizard instructions to complete the initial configuration.
- Note on IP Configuration: You can choose to configure a static IP address for the management interface by enabling the "Would you like Static IP for your Primary AP (Management Network)" option. If not enabled, the interface will obtain an IP address from your DHCP server (typically your router).
- Note on Mesh: If you plan to add mesh extenders, enable the "Mesh" option. This option is disabled by default.
- After completing the initial configuration, the settings are saved, and the access point will reboot. This may take up to 6 minutes. The device is ready for access when the LED is consistently blinking or solid green.
- Connect to the new SSID that you created during the setup process.
- Open a web browser and navigate to
https://ciscobusiness.cisco
. The Cisco Business Wireless Access Point login page will be displayed. - Log in using the username and password created in step 4. Proceed with further configuration.
- Once configuration is successful, you can monitor and manage the access point and associated devices via the web interface. Save your configuration by clicking the red disk icon [Save icon] in the web interface header and confirming with "OK".
