AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series Graphics Cards Quick Setup Guide
This guide provides instructions for setting up your new AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphics card.
Getting Started
Before you begin installing your new graphics card, visually inspect the card and any components that may have shipped with it. Contact your AMD reseller in the event of missing or damaged parts. Ensure you have the proper system requirements and have reviewed the preinstallation information.
System Requirements
AMD Radeon™ RX 6800 XT
Recommended minimum requirements:
- PC with at least one PCI-Express x16 graphics slot on the motherboard.
- Minimum 750W system power supply.
- Minimum of 8 GB of system memory; 16GB is recommended.
- Supported operating systems: Linux®, Windows® 7*, and Windows® 10, 64-bit operating system.
- At least one display compatible with a DisplayPort, HDMI®, or USB Type-C connection.
AMD Radeon™ RX 6800
Recommended minimum requirements:
- PC with at least one PCI-Express x16 graphics slot on the motherboard.
- Minimum 650W system power supply.
- Minimum of 8 GB of system memory; 16GB is recommended.
- Supported operating systems: Linux®, Windows® 7*, and Windows® 10, 64-bit operating system.
- At least one display compatible with a DisplayPort, HDMI®, or USB Type-C connection.
Recording the Serial and Part Numbers
Write down the serial number and part number before installing your product. These are required for registration and technical support and are located on a sticker on the back of your AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphics card.
* Does not support all features including but not limited to Hardware Raytracing.
Hardware Installation
Overview
Once your system meets the recommended minimum requirements, follow these tasks to install your new graphics card. Detailed installation instructions are provided in the following sections.
If replacing an existing graphics card, uninstall the old graphics driver and software before installing the new AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphics card.
Note: If using a motherboard with on-board graphics and not intending to use it for a multiple monitor configuration, disable it.
- Turn off and disconnect your computer system from AC power.
- If needed, remove any existing graphics card(s).
- Install the new graphics card.
- Reassemble and connect your computer system and display(s).
- Start the computer system, install the AMD drivers and configuration software.
- Restart the computer system.
Step-by-Step: Installing your AMD Radeon™ Graphics Card
- Turn off the computer, monitor(s), and other peripheral devices.
- Unplug the computer's power cord, and disconnect all cables from the back of the computer.
- Remove the cover to the computer's case.
- Unscrew or unfasten and remove any existing graphics card from the computer.
- Locate the appropriate bus slot and, if necessary, remove the corresponding metal backplate cover(s). Ensure all internal cables are clear of the slot.
- Align the graphics card with the slot and press it in firmly until the card is fully seated.
- If your card requires supplementary power, locate the appropriate power connector cable(s) from the power supply and connect it (them) to the graphics card's supplementary power connector(s).
- Fasten the graphics card securely to the back panel.
- Ensure no internal cables are interfering with components inside the computer (e.g., a cooling fan), and then replace the computer cover.
- Reconnect any disconnected cables and plug in the computer's power cord. Turn on the monitor, then the computer. If the graphics card is properly installed, the computer should start normally. Proceed to install the software and drivers for your AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphics card.
CAUTION: Wait approximately 20 seconds after unplugging the power cord before disconnecting a peripheral cable or removing a component from the motherboard to avoid possible damage.
Software Installation
AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series Drivers and Software
Drivers are essential programs that enable an operating system to communicate with hardware like a graphics card. Installing the appropriate AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphics driver and configuration software is crucial for utilizing your card's full capabilities. Reinstall Radeon Software drivers whenever you reinstall or upgrade your operating system. AMD Radeon™ software features and the latest drivers are available at AMD.com/radeonsoftware and AMD.com/support.
Note: When reinstalling drivers, always uninstall any previous drivers, even if they are for the same graphics card. Start with a clean installation. Radeon™ Software, included with your driver installation, allows you to control and manage your graphics product. Use it to configure display, video, and other graphics features such as AMD FreeSync™, Radeon™ Boost, and Radeon™ Anti-Lag. Display Configurations
Connecting Displays
The AMD Radeon™ RX 6000 Series graphics cards support up to 8K Ultra HD resolutions via DisplayPort®, HDMI®, and USB Type-C® connections.
Note: Only up to three (3) passive adapter cables may be used. Active adapter cables are required for additional displays. The following table lists options for attaching displays to your graphics card.
For best graphics performance and quality, use native (or active) connections whenever possible.
