Opel Mobile FlipPhone Operator's Manual

This mobile phone offers excellent functions and simplicity of usage. It allows you to make calls, write texts and multimedia messages, listen to FM radio and your favorite MP3 songs. You can also take pictures and record videos. The SOS feature can be extremely helpful in case of emergency.

Key Pad Functions

Button Function Description
Inside Answer Key (Green key) ? Press to answer a call Pick up the phone when there is an incoming call. In standby mode, press to enter the call list.
Inside End Key (Red key) ? Phone Off / Press to End Call Long press to switch off. Long press to switch on. Press to end the call.
Outside Answer Key (Green Key) ? Press to answer a call Pick up the phone when there is an incoming call. Click Hands Free or Reject. Hands Free activates the loud speaker call, Reject rejects the call.
Outside End Key (Red Key) ? Press to Reject/Mute Call Click once to mute the incoming call, click twice to reject the call.

Safety Information

Read this entire pamphlet carefully before using the device. This will save you time and allow you to enjoy all the features on your device.

How to handle and preserve your device?

  • Modifying, disassembling, or repairing the device or charger yourself will invalidate the warranty. Only qualified Opel Mobile personnel may install or repair phone equipment.
  • Avoid hitting or shaking your phone.
  • Using unauthorized accessories may annul the phone's warranty. Use only the original battery charger and Micro USB cable.
  • Keep the device dry. Avoid exposure to rain, water splash, sweat, or moisture. Do not use the device with wet hands or immerse it in water. If it gets wet, keep the phone OFF and do not use a microwave to dry it.
  • Do not use your phone near flammable liquids.
  • Observe local laws and regulations regarding mobile phone use. Turn off the device before entering petrol stations, oil refineries, or chemical plants.
  • Do not use the product in extremely hot, cold, dusty, or humid spaces. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunshine or strong magnetic fields.
  • If you have a pacemaker, keep the phone at least 20cm away from your body. The phone may interfere with hearing aids and other electronic devices.
  • Avoid heat sources, ovens, or other appliances that produce heat.
  • Switch off the phone when entering an aircraft.
  • Do not use a hand-held phone while operating motor vehicles, heavy equipment, or moving objects.
  • Excessive high-volume levels can affect your hearing. Use adequate volume in earphones when listening to music or using multimedia features.
  • You are responsible for backing up your information. Magnetic devices can erase or interfere with stored information; keep your phone clear from magnetic devices.
  • Pointing the torch into eyes can cause damage and may result in blindness.

Safety recommendations for accessories

  • Use only Opel Mobile accessories or chargers that came with this phone.
  • Handle the battery carefully. Use only the Opel Mobile battery that came with the device. Charge the battery as soon as possible after unpacking.
  • Immediately stop using the battery charger if you notice an odor, overheating, or a crack in the casing.
  • If the cable or plug is damaged, discontinue use and contact sales support.
  • Protect the memory card from strong shocks and static electricity. Handle with care.

Usage conditions and restrictions

  • Dispose of all packaging materials properly. Keep packaging out of children's reach to avoid suffocation danger.
  • This device is not a toy and is not designed for children. Strict adult supervision is required. Keep the phone and accessories out of children's reach.
  • This device can be recycled. Follow local regulations for proper disposal. Contact local authorities for guidance on appropriate facilities.
  • Never dispose of the battery in a fire.
  • If the phone is lost or stolen, notify your network service provider immediately to deactivate the SIM card.
  • Opel Mobile is not liable for any damage caused by not following instructions or improper use of the device.

Quick Setup Guide

  1. Install the SIM Card and a Micro SD card (optional, sold separately, max capacity 32GB). Open the back of the phone by sliding the cover down.
  2. If the battery is inserted, remove it. You will see the SIM Card Slot in the right-hand corner. The left top slot is for the optional Micro SD card. Slide the SIM card into the SIM card slot with the gold plate facing down. The non-square corner of the SIM should be on the bottom right.
  3. To install the Micro SD card, slide it into the top left corner opening with the gold pins facing downwards until it is fully inserted.
  4. Insert the battery, aligning the pins with the contacts, then push down to lock. Replace the back cover.
  5. Turn on the phone by pressing and holding the End call/Power button (Red Button) for 5 seconds.
  6. You may be asked to enter a passcode. The default is 0000. You can change this later in Settings > Phone Security > Change Password.
  7. Set the time/date and daylight savings using the number keys and up/down keys. Click the OK key to complete.
  8. To turn off the phone, press and hold the End/Power button (Red Button).
  9. Warning: The SIM card will be locked if an incorrect code is entered three times. You will need to enter the PUK code. Contact your telco service provider to unlock it.
  10. It is recommended to charge the phone for at least 8 hours for the first charge.

Battery

Fully charge the battery before use. The phone has a battery status icon in the top right corner of the display. When the battery is low, follow the charging steps above. If the battery has completely run out of charge, charge the phone for 10 minutes before switching it back on.

How to charge the Phone

Plug the wall charger into a power socket. Insert the Micro USB into the power socket in the mobile phone. For the first charge, ensure you charge for at least 8 hours.

Turning the Phone on for the first time

After charging, turn the phone on by holding down the Red End call button for 5 seconds.

  1. Input the time (Hours and Minutes) using the number keys (24hr format).
  2. Click the down key to enter the date (Day, Month, Year) using the number keys.
  3. Scroll down to select Daylight savings. Press the left and right keys to turn daylight savings on or off.
  4. Select the "OK" key to save.

Your new Opel Mobile Phone is now ready for use.

Storage data and contact information

The device can store information in its memory and on the SD Card (optional). The phone's memory can hold up to 500 contacts, or contacts can be saved on the SIM card, depending on the SIM card's capacity. You can program the phone to save contacts in your preferred location.

The home screen

The home screen displays icons indicating signal strength, SIM card status, sound mode, battery status, date, and time.

How to add contacts to the Phonebook

Phonebook/Contacts/Names can be accessed via 3 options:

  1. From the home screen, use the Back Key ↩️ to open your Phonebook.
  2. Select the Shortcut button (Right button ➡️) and scroll down using the down key to select Phonebook.
  3. Select the OK key ✅ to open the main menu and scroll down to select and open the Phonebook.

Once your Phonebook is open:

  1. Select "add new contact" by highlighting it with the up or down arrow keys, then click OK.
  2. Type the contact's name using the key pad.
  3. Click the down key to add the phone number and type it in.
  4. Click the down key to add additional information like Email address, Caller Picture, and Ring tone (Optional).
  5. Once completed, click the camera button ? which will select “Options”.
  6. Click save to add the contact to your phone.
  7. (Optional) Click "add detail" to add more information about this person, such as another phone number, Fax, additional email, Company name, Birthday, and address.

How to setup SOS feature

This feature sends a default message and calls up to 5 programmed numbers until one answers. It can be used in emergencies. If the SOS mode is enabled, it can be activated by pressing the SOS button on the back of the phone.

SOS Button: Hold for 3 seconds to activate. The phone will start calling and texting your 5 contacts and sound an alarm. To end, flip open the phone and press the end call key (Red Key) ?.

  1. Click the "OK" button ✅ to open the menu. Scroll down using the down key ⬇️ until you reach "SOS Settings". Click OK to enter SOS Settings.
  2. Click "OK" button ✅ to open "SOS mode setting". Use the up or down arrow keys ⬆️⬇️ to turn SOS on or off. Click on or off using the "OK" key ✅.
  3. Scroll down using the down key ⬇️ to “SOS Message”. Click “OK” key ✅ to open. Type and change the text message that is sent to your 5 contacts when you click the "SOS button". Select OK key ✅ to save the message.
  4. Scroll down using the down key ⬇️ to select "Set SOS numbers”. Click the “OK” key ✅ to open.
  5. Add your phone contacts. Click the OK or edit key on each selection to edit and add your preferred contacts.
  6. Select using the OK key ✅ to either add a contact from the phonebook or enter the phone number via the key pads.

You can have one of the selections dial straight to emergency services.

Your SOS feature is now set up and enabled.

How to setup speed dials

  1. Open the Phonebook menu.
  2. Click "Options" using the Camera Key ? to select.
  3. Scroll down using the Down key ⬇️ until you reach "Phonebook settings", then click OK ✅.
  4. Scroll down to select "Speed dial" using the "OK" key ✅.
  5. Select Status using the “OK” key ✅ to turn Speed dial on or off.
  6. Scroll down to select Set numbers using the OK key ✅.
  7. You can select 8 Speed Dials (Numbers 2 – 9).
  8. Select OK ✅ on each number to create a speed dial for contacts.
  9. Once complete, you can use speed dial by holding down the number key on the key pad for 3 seconds to dial the contact's phone number.

How to make, answer and reject phone calls

Accepting incoming calls:

Flip the phone open or click the Green answer button ? on the front of the phone to answer via loudspeaker.

To answer/reject call using keys on the front:

To accept a call, click the Green OK button ? once. You can then either flip open the phone or click the green button again to select loudspeaker handsfree mode. To reject or mute the call, click the red button ? once to mute, then click the red button ? again to reject the call.

Making a phone call:

Option 1: Flip open the phone, dial the phone number on the key pad, then click the Green Call button ? to dial.

Option 2: Open your phonebook as per the steps above. Scroll up or down using the up or down arrow keys ⬆️⬇️ until you highlight the person you wish to call. Click the green button ? to call that person.

Ending a call:

To end a call, simply close the phone or click the red end call button ? once.

Call History:

Clicking the green button ? once on the inside of the phone opens your recent call list. You can dial contacts by scrolling up or down to select the contact and then clicking the green button ?.

Missed calls:

Missed calls are indicated by a Phone icon on the front screen and at the top of the inside screen. Click the green call button ? to open your call history and select using the “OK” key ✅ to view the missed call.

How to text message and view messages

You can write a message, view your message inbox, draft messages, outbox, sent messages, archive messages, delete messages, and access message settings. Select any of these functions by scrolling up or down and clicking the "OK" key ✅.

  1. Click the “OK” Key ✅ to open the menu.
  2. Click the “OK” key ✅ to open messages.
  3. Select "write a message" by clicking the “OK” key ✅ on "write messages".
  4. Type your message using the key pad.
  5. Click the “OK” Key ✅, then click OK ✅ on "add from phonebook" to select which contact/s you wish to send this message to.
  6. Then click “OK” ✅ to send the message to the selected contact/s.

How to use the Key pad for writing a message:

Use the number keys to write characters. In text message mode, each key contains multiple characters. Press the same button quickly to cycle through the selection until the desired character appears. Wait for the cursor to move to add the next character.

Press the [#] Hash button to change entry methods (capital letters, numbers, lowercase letters).

Press the [*] Star button to enter the symbol interface. Use the up, down, left, and right keys ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️ to select a symbol, then click the "OK" key ✅ to select it.

View Messages:

The outside screen shows a text message box for new messages. To view messages, click the “OK” key ✅ and select "messages". Scroll down to "inbox" and select it with the “OK” key ✅ to view new messages. Scroll up or down to select the message you wish to view, then click “OK” ✅ to read it.

How to change profiles, ringtones and message tones

  1. Click the menu by hitting the "OK" Key ✅. Scroll down until you reach “Settings” and click the "OK" key ✅.
  2. Select User Profiles by clicking the “OK” Key ✅.
  3. Select the desired user profile. A green tick indicates the currently selected profile.
  4. Customize the selected user profile by clicking the "Camera Button" ?.
  5. Scroll down and select "Customize" using the “OK” key ✅.
  6. Change Alert type, Ring type, Incoming call tone, Ringtone Volume, Message tone, Message Volume, Keypad tone, Keypad Volume, Power on and off tone, Cover open and close tone, and system alarm on or off.
  7. Scroll up or down using the up or down keys ⬆️⬇️, highlight, and select using the "OK" key ✅ to change any tone or volume.

Activating Silent Mode:

Pressing and holding the Hash button [#] activates silent mode. Press and hold the button again to restore normal mode.

Additional Features and settings

How to access multimedia settings

  1. Click the "OK" key ✅ to open the menu.
  2. Scroll down until you see "Multimedia".
  3. Click "OK" key ✅ to open Multimedia settings.
  4. Scroll to select the desired function.

What you will see in the multimedia menu:

Camera

The camera can take still pictures and record videos. To take a photograph, press the Camera Button ?, then press the "OK" key ✅ to take the photo. To create a video, click the Camera Button ?, press the down key ⬇️ to change to Video mode, then click the “OK” button ✅ to start recording.

  • The Left & Right buttons ⬅️➡️ enable zoom in & out.
  • The UP & Down Buttons ⬆️⬇️ switch between Video recording and Still Photos.
  • Clicking the Camera Button ? again takes you to Camera Settings, where you can change EV, Photo/Video Record, Capture Mode, Scene Mode, Image Size, Self-Timer, White Balance, Effects, and Adv. Settings.

Gallery

Access the gallery by pressing the OK key ✅ to open the menu, pressing the down key ⬇️ to Multimedia, clicking “OK” ✅, then selecting the Gallery menu and clicking OK ✅. Scroll through and click on the image you want to expand.

Video player

Access the Video player by pressing the “OK” key ✅ to open the menu, pressing the down key ⬇️ to Multimedia, clicking “OK” ✅, then selecting the video player menu and clicking "OK" ✅.

Press the OK button ✅ to play/pause. When playing videos, press [*] for full screen and press [#] to return to normal view.

Photo editor

Edit photos, resize images, and create tiles.

Audio Player

Access the Audio Player via the menu clicking the "OK" key ✅, scrolling down to Multimedia, selecting “OK” ✅, and scrolling to Audio Player, then clicking the “OK” key ✅. This feature reproduces audio files. The phone supports MP3 format. Press the number [5] button to play/pause.

Sound Recorder

The phone can reproduce WAV and AMR sound files. Access this via the menu (OK key ✅), scrolling down to Multimedia, and selecting Sound recorder. Press the Camera button ? to open options, click “OK” ✅ on "New record" to start recording. Pause and stop recording using the Camera Button ? or Back key ↩️.

FM Radio

Earphones must be used to enable FM radio. Click the FM button on the phone to activate the FM Radio. If it's the first time accessing FM radio, click the Options menu and select 'Auto Search' to tune all available FM stations.

How to access Phone settings

  1. Click the “OK” key ✅ to open the menu.
  2. Scroll down to "settings" then click “OK” ✅.
  3. Scroll down to "phone settings" then click “OK” ✅.

What you will see in phone settings:

  • Time and Date: Change the time and date on the phone.
  • Schedule power on/off: Found in Settings > "Phone Settings". The phone will automatically power on or off at programmed times.
  • Language: Change the language by selecting the menu with the “OK” key ✅, scrolling down to settings and clicking “OK” ✅, then scrolling down to language.
  • Preferred input method: Select your preferred input method.
  • Display settings: Set wallpaper, screen saver, power on/off animation, show date and time, and screen switch effects.
  • Auto updates: Turn on or off Auto phone software updates.
  • Flight Mode: Turn the phone on or off flight mode and change flight mode settings.
  • LCD Backlight setting: Customize display brightness and backlight time-out. Use the [4] or [6] buttons to decrease or increase the duration.

How to access security settings

Click the "OK" key ✅ to open the menu, scroll down to "settings", click "OK" ✅, then scroll down to "security settings".

What you will see in security settings:

  • SIM security: Create or change a PIN lock for your SIM card.
  • Phone security: The default password is 0000. It is required when the phone is locked. Change the password by scrolling to "Change Password", entering the factory default password (0000), and then entering your new password.

How to access Connectivity

  1. Click the “OK” key ✅ to open the menu, scroll down to "settings", click “OK” ✅, then scroll down to "connectivity".

What you will find under Connectivity:

  • Bluetooth: Connect your device via Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth by selecting "Power On" using the "OK" key ✅. Scroll down to search for audio devices and click search. The phone will find available Bluetooth audio devices.

How to access Restore Factory settings

  1. Click the “OK” key ✅ to open the menu, scroll down to "settings", click “OK” ✅, then scroll down to "restore factory settings".
  2. Restore factory settings: This option erases all previous settings, files, and contacts. The phone will be restored to original factory settings. Back up your files before proceeding.
  3. Select Menu by clicking the "OK" key ✅.
  4. Scroll down to "settings" then click the “OK” key ✅.
  5. Scroll down to "Restore Factory Settings".
  6. Click "OK" key ✅, type in password: 0000, then click "OK" key ✅.
  7. Select "Yes” or “No” using the camera ? or back key ↩️.

How to access file manager

Click the “OK” key ✅ to open the menu, scroll down to "file manger", and click “OK” ✅ to open this menu. Access audio, music, photo, and video files stored on the phone or the Micro SD card.

How to access Organizer

Click the "OK" key ✅ to open the menu, scroll down to "Organizer", and click “OK” ✅ to open this menu.

What you will find under Organizer:

  • Calendar: Add an event by pressing options and scrolling down to “add event”. Fill in the calendar event details. View events by navigating to the specific day.
  • Calculator: Use the number buttons to enter numbers. The up, down, left, right, and OK buttons perform calculations.
  • Task mode: Add a task by clicking add, then entering the Date, time, subject, alarm, Repeat, Priority, and details.
  • Alarm: Create an alarm by clicking edit and filling in the options.
  • World Clock: Scroll using the left and right keys ⬅️➡️ to select and find times in other countries.
  • Notes: Add notes by clicking the “OK” key ✅ and typing like a text message.
  • Torch: (Never point the torch at people's eyes) Turn on the torch by pressing and holding the Torch button on the right side of the phone for 3 seconds. Press again to turn it off. The torch can also be turned on via the Organizer menu.

Troubleshooting and Support

If you experience difficulties with your mobile phone, please review the following troubleshooting steps before contacting Opel Mobile support.

The Mobile Phone will not power on:

  1. Ensure the battery is inserted correctly.
  2. Ensure you are pressing and holding the power button (Red end call key ? on the inside of the phone) for 5 seconds.
  3. Ensure the phone has been charged for at least 10 minutes.

The phone is asking for a password on start-up:

  1. The default password is 0000. You can change the password in security settings.

The phone is asking for a PUK code:

  1. You have entered the incorrect password 3 or more times. Contact your Telco provider to retrieve your PUK code to unlock your phone.

SIM card error or no SIM card:

  1. Ensure the SIM card is inserted correctly and is the correct size. Follow the instructions above for installing the SIM Card.
  2. If your SIM card is damaged or dirty, replace it with a new one from your Telco provider.

Failure to connect to the network:

  1. Your network signal may be weak or out of range. Contact your Telco provider or try the phone in a different location.
  2. Your SIM card may be damaged, invalid, or have no credit. Contact your telco provider for support.

Failure to make an outgoing call:

  1. Ensure you have entered the correct phone number.
  2. Ensure you have sufficient credit on your telco account. Contact your provider for support.
  3. Your signal strength may be weak. Check your signal strength and contact your telco provider.

Cannot hear anyone on the call:

  1. Ensure your call volume is adjusted correctly using the volume keys on the right side of the phone.
  2. Ensure you have sufficient signal strength.

Cannot receive calls:

  1. Ensure your mobile phone is switched on.
  2. Ensure you have sufficient signal strength to receive calls.
  3. Ensure call barring is not enabled (Settings > Call settings > Call barring).
  4. Ensure the phone is not in flight mode.
  5. Ensure your SIM card is installed correctly.

The other party cannot hear you on the call:

  1. Ensure your hand or fingers are not covering the Microphone (located at the bottom of the keypad).
  2. Ensure you are speaking directly into the microphone.
  3. Ensure the other party has their volume turned up to their desired level.

Mobile Phone wont charge:

  1. Ensure the power plug is inserted correctly into the wall socket and the wall switch is turned on.
  2. Ensure the wall power socket is working by testing another device.
  3. Ensure the mini USB cord is inserted correctly into the phone.
  4. Ensure there is no dirt or dust accumulated in the phone's power socket.
  5. Ensure the phone has been on charge for at least 10 minutes, as the battery may have run out of charge completely.

Mobile phone won't connect via Bluetooth:

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is turned on and activated.
  2. Ensure the other device has Bluetooth enabled.
  3. Your Bluetooth device may be too far away to connect. Ensure you are within range.
  4. Ensure you follow the Bluetooth instructions provided.
